Sang woo was brilliantly written. The dude tried to justify his actions but in the end he truly didnt believe in those selfish justifications. Or he was ashamed of what he did deep down. The writer of this series knows how to develop compelling characters.
He was very ashamed and a very well written character, he didnt want his friends to die (gi-hun and ali) but he had no choice because if he left that game empty handed the debtors would kill his family AND him
It's more of the fact that if he accepted to stop the games, he and Gi-hun would leave empty handed, back to their horrible lives again. After all of those people died and all of the suffering they had to go through, Sang-woo couldn't bear the fact that it was all for nothing. He wanted the money to go somewhere. Also this is the writer/director's words not mine.
He at least want his mother to get helped and he knows that gi hun’s gonna help his mother so he’s not gonna quit like that. That means he actually is a very good son. He did those dirty things for his mother
I don’t think he was ashamed. He was the most realistic player and a smart guy. During the marble game, he knew he had to sacrifice Ali because if he didn’t, he would have died himself. In the final moments of his life, Gi-hun tried to quit, which would have caused all the money to go to waste. So, he sacrificed himself, ensuring Gi-hun could win and possibly give some of the money to his mother.

That rule was added by the front to prove a point to gi-hun that those who come in squid game are trash and they would do anything to get money and won't be satisfied with what they have because of their greed (might also be the reason they ended up in debt) and also Gi-hun was also in debt because of debt firstly losing his job and now not being happy with his current so his took loans and gambled.

@JACKMAN9988 When you selectively rip the words out of complete sentence, you are able to make the sentence meaningless. And it's your problem, not mine.
In korean culture you call friends that are older than you 형 which means big brother, simply called by friends as a way to call friends that are older than us
man, I wish people could watch this understanding Korean. Korean language has so much metaphors and feels so poetic when delivering even the most simplest of lines.
Sang-Woo calls him "older brother or dear friend" when he says hhung. When Sang-Woo reminds Gi-Hun of how their mothers don't call them for dinner anymore, Gi-Hun tells him "lets go, lets go home"
Though Sang-Woo was the antagonist and did horrible things, he can hardly be blamed. The penalty for losing can’t be any higher, and the reward for winning is real damn enticing. Maybe not everyone would end up like him, but many would and there’s no mystery as to why.
I almost cried during this scene. That Gi Hun would be willing to give up the money to save his friend even after all he did. Sang Woo got the anti hero ending.
That’s why the frontman hates him. Gi-Hun chose humanity over money. That’s what he’s been trying to prove during s2. Frontman probably has been a player in the past and won it. Just like his father (1st number 001). Gi-Hun showed both of them that there’re people who would choose the right thing to do.
Sangwoo, they could never make me hate you! Literally the smartest character in the series and also one of the best well written characters in the series, with all the ugly sides of being a human, portrayed through him. Honestly after 3 years I still don't get how people hate him more than 001 (both old and new, from s1 and s2), when they're the true villains of the show. I wish s2 had a similarly interesting character as Sangwoo.
I just realized that had San-Woo came back to play after episode 2 by himself instead of both him and Gi-Hun coming back, he probably would’ve won and would have had enough money to payback his and Gi-Hun’s debt and they both would have still been alive.

1:42 is symbolic in a way because it is a different angle of the creation of adam. Creating a new life for him while also killing himself and his friend
Gi-Hun is one of the most likable characters I have ever seen. And it is precisely because we see him at his worst and at his best. At the begining of the show, he is a pathethic selfish manchild whose only redeemable quality is that he wants to be a good father. Sang-Woo on the other side, looks like a more decent person. A great student turned into a succesfull and mature businessman who also seem to care about others (like the dude from Pakistan). ...but then the Game puts both of them through inhuman physical amd mental torture, which turns them into beasts who want to keep playing despite how horrible things are getting. Yet, despite all of that, at the end, Gi-Hun doesnt let that take his humanity away. Because despite all of his pain and despite how hopeless things seem, at the end... he is still a good man. While his succesfull friend on the other hand, showed that his deepest and truest self is a selfish and cruel person. And thats they key point: When you show a very flawed character, then his virtues shine even brighter. Because no person is all light or all darkness, yet there is nothing better than fighting for making the best part of you be the one that is in control.
You cannot establish someone with the attribute "cruel" when the situation is life and death, between oneself, and STRANGER people. "Selfish" may be better fitting, but in this case don't you think it is warranted? It's a fundamental characteristic of human nature Also you seem to be forgetting that the person you called cruel, ultimately chose to brutally end his life, despite given the choice to stay alive (in exchange for the prize money to be taken away from the rightful winner). Now that takes some selflessness and humility.
@@Kinetex Throughout my life I have felt alienated for not understanding sexual appetite the same way that most people do. This only increased my insecurity and fear during my teenage years and contributed to me not learning how to propertly socialize. As a result, for much of my life I have felt content in my own little world, away from other people. And in that small world I found simple but sweet pleasures like Chicago pizza. It is an overloaded meal that doesnt fit with everyone's taste... but I enjoy it and that is enough. So in a way, it was a reminder that you can feel fulfilled and content even when you are alone. However, recently, I found friends who enjoy that pizza too, and this has helped me open up socially and feel more fulfilled and happy. The best written character in the entire series, Sang Woo... All of his scenes made us feel the cruelty of the games and the reality of the players. He was the character with the most realistic features of all, with a survival instinct that was felt. A miserable man, but with a last act of redemption that made many of us feel sad.
It’s sad how Sang-Woo was just so ashamed at the actions he did up until this point that he makes the sacrifice to to help Gi-Hun have a better life.
He came so far and wouldn’t let it be for nothing.
So many people question Gi-hun's choice of not getting on the plane in S2 but it all makes sense. He was poor but so kind-hearted, he witnessed so many people die right before his eyes, he could not go back to normal without bringing an ounce of justice to the dead
Watching 455 other people die, including close friends or family, marks you for life. He is not the same Gi Hun we saw first episode. That man died when Sang Woo died
When Gi-hun asks sang woo to finish the game and let's go home I was actually like good decision go back home plz don't die any of you but when sung woo sacrifices himself for Gi-hun I literally cried at this moment altho my inner person knew Sang-woo has to die

Sang-woo’s realization almost saved his character. His last act doesn’t make up for everything else, but it comes close. He accepted his wrongdoing and tried to make it right from that moment.
What doesn’t it make up for, I don’t think Sang woo really did anything wrong

He had his reasons, but so did Gi-Hun and yet Gi-Hun still chose to play a clean game.
@ Yes Gi hun chose to play a clean game, and he nearly died so many times. You can’t blame Sang woo for not taking chances
@@Eggstrawdinnery Gi hun did decide to play clean but Sang could have easily decided to end the game with Gi hun than murdering Sae-Byeok with a majority of 2/3 even if Byeok still wanted to continue, everything else was just a matter of life or death so at this point Sang was a morally corrupt person for money
@@Eggstrawdinnery I don’t blame him, I’m just saying he has quite the character arc. He went from the best friend of the main character to a deadly antagonist.

Right
Yes. He was always call him 형 (Hyung). It means older brother.
In korean culture you call friends that are older than you 형 which means big brother, simply called by friends as a way to call friends that are older than us
Sang-Woo tells Ali to call him Hyung as well earlier in the series. Which made the betrayal all the more heart breaking

It still hurts seeing Gi-Hun tell him not to talk, almost as if he believes he can still save him.
The one whose mother was still alive sacrificed himself letting the other return to his mother who wasn't.

At first when i was watching squid game it was so comedy cuet good but at the end
Every teir from my eye came out....
The old man was not the father of the frontman
The frontman won one of the squid games. Yall need to pay attention more

I NEED A FRIEND LIKE GI-HUN😢 HE IS PURE, KIND, TRUSTWORTHY AND WARM-HEARTED PERSON❤
1:42 is symbolic in a way because it is a different angle of the creation of adam. Creating a new life for him while also killing himself and his friend
When we were kids.... our mother would call us to dinners ...no one's calling any more 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
Gi-Hun is one of the most likable characters I have ever seen.
And thats they key point:
When you show a very flawed character, then his virtues shine even brighter.
Because no person is all light or all darkness, yet there is nothing better than fighting for making the best part of you be the one that is in control.
give me a detailed paragraph on why you like Chicago pizza as an asexual person
You cannot establish someone with the attribute "cruel" when the situation is life and death, between oneself, and STRANGER people. "Selfish" may be better fitting, but in this case don't you think it is warranted? It's a fundamental characteristic of human nature
Also you seem to be forgetting that the person you called cruel, ultimately chose to brutally end his life, despite given the choice to stay alive (in exchange for the prize money to be taken away from the rightful winner).
This experience has made me understand that even if there are things that make you feel different (such as asexuality or strange tastes in pizza) it is worth trying to find people with whom you share something.
It is true that in your own little world you feel comfortable and safe, but you miss the most important thing in life: human relationships.
Even if you are "different" it is worth the effort.

We all know that if Sangwoo had won, he would not have been happy. The guilt would have crushed him sooner or later, and he would have probably fallen into severe depression.
