I retired from 28 years at the police dept, my last 12 was as a chief at the same department. Most people dont realize being a chief is like a preacher or a HS football coach. Politics of all 3 will get you quick, most chiefs are gone after new mayors get elected, actually stepping down to another rank probably offers her more protection from being fired. Anyway my 2 cents

I got a friend who lives there. He's highly critical of cops, honestly, he hates the vast majority of cops. He has no complaints about her. Her officers back her, the citizen's back her. The mayor and council want her to do things she hasn't got the resources or legal means to do. The council refuses to answer questions. Refuse to release why they are doing this, refuse to answer any questions about it at all. It's the Mayor and the council that's hiding something, not the Chief.

It's an hour away to the city center in Indy. As long as the city has coverage, (sheriffs office, on call, night shift) what does it matter? You can still be a huge part of the community even if you don't live in the city limits. Technology today is pretty advanced, a supervisor can log in a watch dash cams/body cams live from a cell phone. A supervisor that is always monitoring what is going on is a micro manager not a leader.

By not living in that community she's not developing relationships with people that can influence her decisions. when you have a chief of police that grew up in an area or lives in the area they get to know neighbors, they get to know people around town etc. That can, and at times doe's lead to some, let's say, "favoritism" in certain instances. After watching this, I’m curious as one of the reasons they stated they removed her was because of residency, but yeah, they are let her continue her employment as a merit officer. I’m only going to assume that they’re not making her move into town. This makes absolutely no sense to me. The constitution allows people to live where thy wish, and as law enforcement, they may live where they wish, not the community they serve. I believe it is covered in either the 5th or the 14th amendment.
