OMG, I just found one of those screens!! You're the first video to educate me on this. I"m soooo thankful I found your video.

I just had my vent cleaned. I had them put the screen back on as i dealt with a rat infestation in my attic in 2018 & back then it cost $600 to get rid of the rats. I'd rather pay the cost to have my vent cleaned more often & avoid the cost & inconvenience of dealing with rats or other critters.

+1 like for Aggretsuko mini! Also gotta get up on the roof and find out if I've got one of these... House is 30+ years old, never heard of it being even cleaned out... Amazed we haven't had worse issues. Thanks for the video!

One of my renters placed a wire mesh cover on the dryer vent on my house. I don't know how long it had been there as I hadn't lived in the house for over a decade. Unfortunately my property manager didn't catch it. When I moved back and did a walk around and spotted it, I immediately ripped it off.

So I had a new roof installed and I had to remove the screen. My previous vent stack had a flap style which stayed closed until dryer was on.

I live in the south, and there are rats and bugs all over the place. What should I use if I can't use a screen?

I'm concerned about mice jumping into my dryer vent and invading my house, though. If not those screens, what can I use to stop them?

I would not stress about it. Put in a good Semi-rigid transition hose that mice will not chew through and clean out your dryer vent yearly. A dead mouse is easier to cleanup than a house fire.

@@planetduct6663 i agree with the comment below I would rather brush off a screen routinely and keep mice out

Ever since removing the screen, birds come and build a nice nest in the rooftop exhaust hood. These cheesy hoods have cheap flapper door designs that either don't fully close, or are easy enough for birds to lift up and get in. So, my question to you, is there a good quality hood for the roof with a flapper that closes properly?

Im actually just about to put one of those in.. except mines more like a diamond pattern and about 3/8" x 1/2" holes.. id rather have to remember to clean off the lent once every few years than have the family of squirrels then mice then birds make home in mine without me knowing it.. every time the critters would wind up dying and causing everything to stink like hell until finally find the cause of the smell.. even after trying to clean out all the nasty apparently the little ones like to explore and wondered to the point where it drops down a foot or two and one died there and another made it to the in-line fan and caused it to almost. Catch fire.. so with the uniformity of me knowing where the lent will catch there at the end and able to clean it with the leaf blower rather than spending a day taking the whole thing apart to replace the parts the critters died in while risking fire from their nests, ima stick with el screeno...

Once every couple years? Those screens are supposed to get cleaned at least once a month.
