    As an afro-American Christian American, I always come back to this letter to remind people that many of our greatest leaders in America were Muslim. Though I may not practice, I do fast for Ramadan in solidarity with my brothers and sisters. We are all one people, and anyone who has the humility to worship a higher power and greet others in peace has my respect. Salute to all my Muslim brothers and sisters

    I remember when I was a child my late father telling us about Malcolm X ,and how they met in London . Their correspondence continued until the end of Malcolm’s life . I remember how very sad he was on receiving the news of his assassinaton, but he wasn’t surprised, and he read to us the last letter he got from him , where he wrote saying “ they are after me , it won’t be long before they get me “ and they did . Sadly after the passing of my father many years latter, we looked for the letters , but unfortunately, we couldn’t allocate them . My father was a prominent Palestinian academic, and he always used to talk to us about Malcolm X with enormous love and respect. May both Rest In Peace .

      Adnan AMin since I never met him , you could say it was an indirect experience, through my late dad , but he has special place in my heart ,and that’s for how aof great man he was on the one hand, and on the other , his name for me had always been associated with my dad , it is kind of emotional and nostalgic thing ,that I passed on to my daughter . She remembers well , the day I bought her his autobiography from waterstone book store in London , and how special that day was for her , as she knew of his connection with my dad , so it was a bonding experience for her that she never forgot, and it just it happened two days ago , she was telling me on the phone , as she lives in N.Y , about Malcolm and how reading his biography had touched her heart and conscience at such an early age , and she never failed to let us know how reckless it was of us as family to loose such an important treasure , referring to his letters to her beloved grandpa, “saying I would have had them framed and hung on the wall , and pass it down to my children one of these days.” And by the way, I did meet his wife many years ago ,in a conference held England, and to be honest , I couldn’t relate her to him , but then again , maybe I was not fair in trying to see him in her , may be I was under the halo effect. So really, thats just sums all my personal association with that great man , but just the same it gives a sense of pride .

      @L.K
      Seriously? You think you've disproved Islam yet you're so wrong on every aspect.
      The Prophet Muhammad (SAWS) said, "There is no superiority for an Arab over a non-Arab, nor for a non-Arab over an Arab. Neither is the white superior over the black, nor is the black superior over the white -- except by piety."
      Ahmad (22978) Classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in as-Saheehah (6/199).
      Arabic was chosen by Allah (SWT) to be the language of Islam, the language of the Quran. However, that does not make Arabs or Arabic superior to other races or languages respectively.

    • @lambent123
      @lambent123 5 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      @L.K In regards to having "Islamic" names, there is no such requirement in Islam. What is advised by Prophet Muhammad is that parents should give "good" names to their children: names that have good, positive meanings and should not give blasphemous and inappropriate names or the attributes of the Almighty. Arabians make only a small portion of Muslims around he globe. If you were to travel around the world, you will find Muslims with names that are rooted in their local culture and language.
      The names Christians give to their children like John, Josep, Jacob, Abraham, Moses, David, Michael, Isaac, Ishmael, Noah, (Myriam/Miriam for Mary), and so forth are also of Middle Eastern origin although they are pronounced and spelled differently in the Middle Eastern languages to avoid any mispronunciation or misunderstanding. There are also specific state laws in predominantly muslim nations many of which are secular. They like to make sure certain names even if they are of Arabic origin, they need to be spelled and pronounced by the local people without any difficulty or confusion. For instance, while names such as Jacob, Joseph (Yakub, Yousuf, respectively) wouldn't be an issue in some predominantly Muslim countries, it may be in others because that is the proper pronunciation. If you were to write Jacob and Joseph as they are spelled in English, you wouldn't probably know people just called your name. Those names would sound very different to your ear in that particular local language.
      In regards to the attribute Al Hajj (or Haji, Hadji as names), it has respectful stature in Muslim societies. It means one who has been to Hajj (visited the Holy cities Mecca and Medina) to fulfill one of the five pillars of Islam. In the old times, it was very costly and expensive to make the trip. Also, there were given limited visas to each country for the Muslim citizens to visit those places. Hence, when one made Hajj, he would get reception like famous people who receives it when they visit a small community. Also, for many it's a life changing experience as people tend to live more pious lives afterwards (or that is what is expected of them, at least). I am sure it is somewhat same today. Al Hajj, the who who made pilgrimage to the Islamic Holy cities, is an attribute. That's all.
      Arabic is the language of the Islamic Holy Book, The Quran. it's the original language in which Islamic versus was revealed through angel Gabriel to the prophet by the Almighty. So yes, the language has a significant importance to all Muslims.

      Let's be honest, we unfortunately have such problems in our ummah as well. We do have a lot of racism and discrimination even though Islam forbids that. All humans are created by Allah, all humans are beautiful in their unique way and still, in how many Muslim countries there's a love and even a fetish for fairer skin while darker skin is considered as not beautiful even though both are made by Allah ? Just look at the Marriage situation.

    "Eventually my mother suffered a complete breakdown, and the court orders were finally signed. They took her to the State Mental Hospital at Kalamazoo. My mother remained in the same hospital at Kalamazoo for about 26 years.
    My last visit, when I knew I would never come to see her again-there-was in 1952. I was twenty-seven. My brother Philbert had told me that on his last visit, she had recognized him somewhat. "In spots" he said.
    But she didn't recognize me at all.
    She stared at me. She didn't know who I was.
    Her mind, when I tried to talk, to reach her, was somewhere else. I asked, "Mama, do you know what day it is?"
    She said, staring, "All the people have gone."
    I can't describe how I felt. The woman who had brought me into the world, and nursed me, and advised me, and chastised me, and loved me, didn't know me.

    What brother Malcom experienced was the truest and purest form of Islam in all its glory and it cleansed him of all falsehoods and disdain. Realize that 1960’s was before the Muslim revolution, pre Wahhabism, pre fundamentalism. It was the pinnacle of acceptance and balance in the modern Muslim world and being able to perform Hajj in this era must have been the most overwhelming and cleansing experience anyone could ever have.
    Malcom X being able to experience this before his tragic death was truly the will of Alllah. He was too pure for this world, paradise is the only setting worthy of his presence. Peace and blessings to his family and his memory. God bless.

    Malcom X's letter :
    "Never have I witnessed such sincere hospitality and overwhelming spirit of true brotherhood as is practiced by people of all colors and races here in this ancient Holy Land, the home of Abraham, Muhammad and all the other Prophets of the Holy Scriptures. For the past week, I have been utterly speechless and spellbound by the graciousness I see displayed all around me by people of all colors.
    "I have been blessed to visit the Holy City of Mecca, I have made my seven circuits around the Ka'ba, led by a young Mutawaf named Muhammad, I drank water from the well of the Zam Zam. I ran seven times back and forth between the hills of Mt. Al-Safa and Al Marwah. I have prayed in the ancient city of Mina, and I have prayed on Mt. Arafat."
    "There were tens of thousands of pilgrims, from all over the world. They were of all colors, from blue-eyed blondes to black-skinned Africans. But we were all participating in the same ritual, displaying a spirit of unity and brotherhood that my experiences in America had led me to believe never could exist between the white and non-white."
    "America needs to understand Islam, because this is the one religion that erases from its society the race problem. Throughout my travels in the Muslim world, I have met, talked to, and even eaten with people who in America would have been considered white - but the white attitude was removed from their minds by the religion of Islam. I have never before seen sincere and true brotherhood practiced by all colors together, irrespective of their color."
    "You may be shocked by these words coming from me. But on this pilgrimage, what I have seen, and experienced, has forced me to rearrange much of my thought-patterns previously held, and to toss aside some of my previous conclusions. This was not too difficult for me. Despite my firm convictions, I have always been a man who tries to face facts, and to accept the reality of life as new experience and new knowledge unfolds it. I have always kept an open mind, which is necessary to the flexibility that must go hand in hand with every form of intelligent search for truth."
    "During the past eleven days here in the Muslim world, I have eaten from the same plate, drunk from the same glass, and slept on the same rug - while praying to the same God - with fellow Muslims, whose eyes were the bluest of blue, whose hair was the blondest of blond, and whose skin was the whitest of white. And in the words and in the deeds of the white Muslims, I felt the same sincerity that I felt among the black African Muslims of Nigeria, Sudan and Ghana."
    "We were truly all the same (brothers) - because their belief in one God had removed the white from their minds, the white from their behavior, and the white from their attitude."
    "I could see from this, that perhaps if white Americans could accept the Oneness of God, then perhaps, too, they could accept in reality the Oneness of Man - and cease to measure, and hinder, and harm others in terms of their 'differences' in color."
    "With racism plaguing America like an incurable cancer, the so-called 'Christian' white American heart should be more receptive to a proven solution to such a destructive problem. Perhaps it could be in time to save America from imminent disaster - the same destruction brought upon Germany by racism that eventually destroyed the Germans themselves."
    "Each hour here in the Holy Land enables me to have greater spiritual insights into what is happening in America between black and white. The American Negro never can be blamed for his racial animosities - he is only reacting to four hundred years of the conscious racism of the American whites. But as racism leads America up the suicide path, I do believe, from the experiences that I have had with them, that the whites of the younger generation, in the colleges and universities, will see the handwriting on the walls and many of them will turn to the spiritual path of truth - the only way left to America to ward off the disaster that racism inevitably must lead to."
    "Never have I been so highly honored. Never have I been made to feel more humble and unworthy. Who would believe the blessings that have been heaped upon an American Negro? A few nights ago, a man who would be called in America a white man, a United Nations diplomat, an ambassador, a companion of kings, gave me his hotel suite, his bed. Never would I have even thought of dreaming that I would ever be a recipient of such honors - honors that in America would be bestowed upon a King - not a Negro."
    All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of all the Worlds.
    Sincerely,
    Al-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz (Malcolm X)
