- Let’s take a look at the Tikka T3x Superlite Stainless chambered in 30-06!
I’ll be setting this rifle up for a fly-in backcountry elk hunt in Idaho later this year.
I’ll also be pitting the T3x against my Winchester model 70 Extreme Weather SS 30-06 in a head to head competition to see which one I’ll be taking on the hunt!
Happy Hunting!

Nice rifle, and I hope your hunt went well! As for the scope though, it's actually pronounced Loo-pold rather than Lee-up-old. I know that's not how it's spelled, but it is how it's pronounced.
I am not surprised your choice an East Coast deer gun for Idaho Elk hunt when you Easterns think the weak deer gun 30-06 is some kind of wonder cannon.
Most likely you are going to find out using that east coast deer gun 30-06 many of the Elk you are only able to just look at them where if you have chosen a real elk cartridge like the 300 Magnums or 338 magnums. - I know it is Rare, but that Remington 8 mm Rem mag is an Elk killer to the most extended ranges.
I have guided Pacific NW Elk hunts since 1978 and in Alaska since 1989 and I've seen so many east coast hunters bring all the wrong guns and ammo then go home without the game that they came to hunt & shoot because of their F ed ignorance that a 30-06 is some kind of cannon then when I get them on a Oregon NW canyon and they see the elk always they ask you want me to shoot over there ? I can't !
@Lure-Benson not sure where u are coming from. Yes my 270 is for Michigan deer. I hand load hammer bullets. Never thought that was a elk gun. Appreciate your input 👌
I know the polymer annoys people and I get it but these rifles are so smooth and accurate that I can look past it. I own 3 and wouldn't hesitate to get another.
The polymer in these are so flimsy tho. Youre not gonna get accurate groups beyond 300yds.
@@thedailyruns6046 that's nonsense. If you are shooting .25 groups at 100yds are they just going to start flying wildly past 100 because the frame is polymer? Tikka has a good thing going. Sako doesn't produce junk.
@adamelam6385 you got it right sir
tikkas are the best I own 4 and love everyone
I’m a timber man so I brought the sako 90 hunter in 308
@william6815 I have a sako 85 hunter left hand 7 mag. Shoots great and looks even better
Best rifle in earth, for hunting obviously, i got on of these Tikka rifles 2yrs ago and ITs Been best rifle ive ever had, Even better make's that you can put almost every upgrade's you want to, and ITs from Finland 💪🇫🇮🇫🇮
The Tikka will perform incredibly. Very simple and foolproof trigger adjustment.
I shoot a Tikka T3 in .308 for deer and moose and have for years. Loved it as a teenager and it’s still my go to deer/caribou gun. Upgrading to a 300 win for moose and bear
You could take moose and bear with the 308. Just switch up your loads.
If it ain’t broke don’t fix it.
@@rodneyrodriguez3676 I know, right? A 308 will drop a bear or a moose. You just gotta aim right. The world record grizzly bear killed by Bella twin in 1953 was killed with a single shot .22
A 5 pound .30-06? That thing's gonna kick hard.
Always good to see the rifle I chose getting love!
I love the Tika brand. I had a Tika t3 lite chambered in 30.06. It got stolen along with two of my Mossbergs. Lol best rifle I ever had. I miss that beautiful piece of art
Man that’s unfortunate! I’m really liking them so far, they’re obviously very well made, can’t wait to put it to work!
Sumsbitches, got 6 of my rifles.
I have a 300 win mag version and it thumps real good 👍🏽 love it
I recent bought a Tikka T3x Superlite in 308. I got the Cabela’s/Bass Pro exclusive VSX camo stock. I have a Leupold VX Freedom 3-9x40 CDS in Talley Lightweight 1” Low mounts. It’s an excellent rifle that weighs only 7.2lbs with scope, mounts, sling and 3 rounds in the magazine. I love the modularity of the stock, with the ability to change grips and add a wider forend. I’m adding the Sport bolt knob to mine.
I have this exact scope and rifle actually ha. I love it. Best shooting gun I’ve ever had. Not to mention my groupings are unbelievable.
What factory ammo and grain are you shooting out of your tikka?
This Gun, INCREDIBLE ❤❤❤
If you love Tikka, you sure will love Sako! excellent Finnish rifles
My first real hunting rifle my dad got for me was a tikka tx3 in .233 and was left handed served me well and is now retired to the range. I now use a Sako finbear .270
I have owned a pile of these and they have every one been excellent rifles 👍
I’ve got a T3x laminate 7mm mag on the way, really looking forward to it!
This was my very first hunting rifle setup when I started hunting a couple years ago. Now it is my dedicated back up rifle and goes with me everywhere just incase because I know I can trust it, and take anything in North America
What are you using as a primary?
T3x action with a proof research 20" carbon fiber barrel chambered in 308. It is sitting in a stocky stocks carbon hunter so a pretty light weight setup. Topped it with a vx5hd 3-15x44@@masonleather
@@Legitonionthat sounds like a pretty amazing setup.
Same gun in 270. Put 4 to 12 6.5 creedmoor leupold scope on it. It's moa or sub moa with all ammo but winchester and herters.
I have this exact same rifle scope combo and it’s amazing
Great choice!
I got a t3x lite stainless in .308 with a Leupold VXR 3-9x firedot. The only gun i have bought so far that i was happy with from the start and did have to adjust or modify anything. Im probably going to trade my remington 700vsf in .223 in for another tikka.
These are such good guns crispy trigger and the bolt is so easy to remove and install.
Good luck on your elk hunt. The damn wolves have all but wiped out the elk and deer herds.
Lol damn nice rifle! Me over here hunting with a 1967 Remington 30-06. 💀
Sick!! I’ve got a very similar setup in a t3x synthetic stainless .308 and a leupold vx freedom 3-9x40 cds. Best of luck out there 🤘🤘
I just got a t3x compact in 308 and put a leupold vx-5hd 3-15x44. It is a fantastic light rifle.
I’d say with it being so light it’s gonna kick hard
Was just looking at this rifle.
Awesome bro it's my dreams 👍
a worthy adversary to the m70
That's the first rifle I bought. A 30.06 t3x 👍
How’s the recoil ??
@@saigeglass3106 it's honestly not too bad. I have arthritis in my neck, I find my 30.06 has slightly more recoil as my 223. If 30.06 rounds were less expensive, I'd be taking it to the range more often
A 5.9 lb .30-06 without a muzzle brake, whew it’s gonna kick 🦵🏻
I shoot one in 300wsm
no brake it's not bad
Just bought my first Tikka! Have a Grayboe stock on the way to celebrate the occasion 🎉
That’ll get meat on “both ends” !! My dad had a pre 64 Winchester mod 70 Featherweight in 39-06 that kicked like a mule!!!
Awesome rifles! my brother has the T3x super lite in 270 for his backcountry rifle. Leupold FX3 and talleys. That gun is a shooter, sub moa to at least 400. That’s as far as he’s shot it
Sweet
Be ready for the recoil!
Different for everyone, but I have same gun in 7 rem mag. Limbsaver recoil pad makes a difference, but not too bad . I can shoot about 20 rounds before I'm softened up.
I was going to say the same thing…the Limbsaver Airtech is the way to go if recoil bothers you.
My .30-06 is 1:11 and it shoots 165gn Hornady cxs just fine and they are long for their weight. I’d say with a lead core bullet a 175-180 should do just fine
Good deal. I’ve heard the same about these T3’s that they typically shoot 180’s fine just haven’t done it myself yet to be sure
Mason, they’re supposed to be guaranteed sub MOA with factory ammo, Sako ammo…see if you can find some 180gr Super Hammerhead ammo and should work great for what you’re doing with the rifle. They’re a soft-tip bonded bullet. I’ve used them in 308…shoots like a match bullet and tough construction.
tikkas are the best factory rifle in their price range hands down. I have 4 and they all shoot under an inch
I’d like to see some videos showing the reduce recoil with a muzzle brake on
I have this rifle. It’s a tac driver! I’ve killed a bunch of animals with it and it’s my go to for hunting big game
What factory ammo and grain are you using?
I have always found it interesting that people buy expensive weapons because of looks and names basically,my brother is the perfect example,He purchased a GUNWERXS 7 MAG $3789 then put a $1438 Swarovski scope on it,Had some custom made ammo loaded up by some man in Maryland for $349 a box of 20,On Christmas he came to my house where I have a range capable of 1100 yards,at 100 yards same hole groups same at 400 @500 it opened up to about 1/2" groups he tells me,HEY BIG BROTHER THAT'S WHAT YOU GET FOR $3K WHOA!! I said it's definitely a good looking rifle and expensive, But no gun is worth that money,I grabbed a early 200's Remington 710 Walmart entry level rifle I paid $150 for chambered in 270 with a no name scope and hit the 4" steel plate at 800 yards,
I have something like this in .270 instead. Dependable gun, I’m trying to get a new barrel so I can put iron sights on it and use it as a bushcrafting rifle. It’ll hopefully make me a better shooter, seeing as how marksmanship with iron sights is the best way to improve
I have the tikka t3x in 308 and the exact same Winchester in 300wm.
I need one
Nice setup, bag anything up in Idaho?
LEUPOLD 👍👍👍🙏🙏
Damn I wish I can hunt
Finally, a gun I could own here in the UK if I so choose. Like the polymer stock, not a fan on the brushed stainless. Too much bling for my liking.
They make many versions…from basic blued to stainless, stainless with fluting like this one, plus the Roughtech type versions some have camo stocks and cerakoted barrels. Really something for everyone.
That said there are a lot of benefits to a stainless receiver and barrel, even if you don’t like the exterior look. Could always get stainless and have it cerakoted…because the insides are still stainless then, over chromoly, like the blued version.
@@scotteger6271Mmmmmmm, spicy! You're right of course, my friend went skeet shooting with his browning over and under, decided to put on a show with black powder rounds. Ended up having to send it to a gunsmith to have it professionally "cleaned" because he simply forgot to clean it. I'd imagine stainless gun wouldn't have rusted up as quickly. Probably good for long periods of hunting in the moist, damp and soggy UK countryside.
There was an upside to what happened to my friends old shotgun, he had it ported while it was in the workshop. It looks kind of funny now with all these holes drilled in the end of the barrels. But apparently it does work, so aesthetics be damned! 😅
@@MrClassiccarenthusia savage used to make a model 10 that was ported at the end of the barrel, so essentially a muzzle brake, but integral to the actual barrel.
And yes you’re correct, the stainless would be far less likely to corrode internally. Just run a cleaner patch and a mild preservative down the bore when finished hunting. Personally I like Break Free CLP, as it cleans, lubricates and protects all in one, but Birchwood Casey Barricade is also a good protectant.
Curious how it turned out! Did it like the 180’s?
I have that model 70 in 300 WSM the year that 300 WSM was introduced. It's not a Sako for sure
I'm smokin a Finnbear 06 with a leupold 3.5x10x50 for low light moose hunting. Also have 300,338 win mag Sako Finnbears. My partner shoots your rifle in 300 win mag. Trapper scotty,Alaskan

Update on the tikka?
I didn't go with this one because it was just as expensive as the Browning X-lock, the Savage arms is $300 cheaper and holds an extra round, plus comes with a free 3-9x optic! Fluted barrels are a scam anyways, wouldn't you want a higher twist rate rifling anyways?
Im sure the finnish quality wont let you down.
The biggest difference is probably going to be recoil. Light rifles are nice if you don’t shoot a lot.
Can that barrel be equipped with different variety of muzzles or do I have to get another barrel ?
What scope would be the best under 1000$ for backcountry hunting ?
Dude, are you from Idaho?
Can the barrel be replaced, or is it permanently the same as the chamber?
Improper scope not needed to bulkly and heavy.
I don't care about the Tika..I'll take the Winchester model 70.
Ok Randall
I've got a 270wsm and 7mmwsm in model 70 and a 300 wsm in a Tikka......the Tikka has a better trigger and smoother bolt but both rifles shoot nice
I would think 1:11 would stabilize a heavier bullet a little better. Give us an update.
How does the Tikka shoot? I can’t find the showdown video
Haven’t even mounted the scope yet, coming soon as I can get to it
So… I went and bought one, I got the blued version no flutes, it is a shooter. To my surprise the 1:11 twist rate stabilized 178 grain ELDX bullets just fine. You should be okay with the 180 grainers.
Do you have to place the Weapon on FIRE to Cycle the Bolt?
Kicks like a mule id imagine but very nice anyway
It’s funny though…people will buy a Kimber and not even think twice…same with other light rifles.
Personally I think the T3x Superlite is just right. I have a 308 that was 6lbs bare and 7.2lbs with scope, mounts, sling and 3 cartridges in the magazine. Can’t really ask for much more than that.
It's a 3006.
There aint but so much recoil it can produce.
I'd imagine one in 338 win mag would kick like a donkey tho
Does anyone know why they chose a 11" twist?
What's the kick on that thing like?
Honestly, it's not bad at all. My TC Compass 223 kicks harder than my 30.06 t3x.
@@h3llraiz3r_929 how?
هذا صناعة ألمانيا 🇩🇪 🌹
It is made in Finland, not Germany
Correct! @@scotteger6271
Must kick like an absolute mule!!!
Are they worth the money
I’m in the market for this same rifle. Have you noticed any adverse effects of the non typical twist rate offered in the Tikka?
No issues with bullets up to 180 grains, haven’t tried anything heavier for accuracy, it shoots 180gr Norma Bondstrike incredibly well.
My 300wsm with 1in11 twist shoots 200gr terminal ascent fair and the 200 eldx great
Beautiful..way to light..
Man Turkish guns are the tits right now
Tikkas are beautiful don't get me wrong. But i will never understand how they can justify that price for a rifle that doesn't have a threaded barrel
So who won the showdown?!?
Haven’t been able to do much with it but see my latest short - the Tikka is the one I’ll be taking on the Elk hunt
Light rifel for its caliber. Bet it'll kick like a mule
It doesn’t, the stock shape is well engineered
Too bad it’s near impossible to get a matching stainless scope.
I just hate the synthetic stocks on so many guns. I want the weight smcause I'm a bitch and can't handle recoil. I'd like to become a man but it's hard.
$ How much $ ?
I still think it is a rip-off that we can't get a nice walnut stock anymore 😕 😢 😞..Cheap plastic stock 😢
It’s pronounced “Lew-pold”, not Leo-pold.
No way
Will kick like a mule.
Tikka stocks and bedding is garbage action is nice but a browning is a better factory offering if u not building a custom rifle
Too light of a rifle for me

Yessir, Finland
2023 and fools are still buying 30-06 ? Do y’all not know any better ?
30-06 hasn't become any less effective with age, it still gets the job done, there's near endless load data for it, you can source it at any firearm store no matter how remote or poorly stocked.
270 Win & 30-06 Sprg aren't going anywhere, regardless of what modern 6.5 & 30's would like. Where I like the 6.5x55SE is more common than 6.5CM and I can't see the Swede going anywhere either.
@@spicywolf6718it’s a great cartridge but most people are now buying 308 and the 6.5s. I can’t even find 30-06 stuff for handloads let alone factory ammo I haven’t seen a single box of 30-06 in atleast 8 years I don’t see the point of buying a nice rifle you can’t find ammo or reloading stuff for. I have a higher chance of finding 257 wby on the shelves than 30-06.
@@Brandenuzis must be regional because it's one of the easiest calibres for me to source save maybe 253 & 270.
For instance there's 32 factory loads on the shelf to choose from in 30-06, 21 loads in 270 yet 6.5CM & 6.5 Swede have 16 combined - there's more 300WM or 7mmRM loads available than that
Boy there's a little millinial newbie. When u grow up chime back in.
@@mini14head lol millennial 🤣 1974 , killed my first big game animal with an 06 , but it couldn’t hang with my dad and uncles in the big country we hunt , so I dropped it and started hunting with a.7mm mag at 14 , even at 14 I was smart enough to walk away from an 06 , nothing has changed in almost 40 years except the 06 is still a relic and has no place in my hunting world , chime back when you become old and wise 🫵
How can buy this one in india
Is is better than Bergara b14 hmr?
