Still one the best fighters I've ever played PERIOD!! This game basically lived in my NGPC!! This had so much content. It kept you coming back for more. Turns out this game was made by Dimps (who made SF4 & 5). The presentation, the gameplay, the references to both camps. All Perfect.
I still have the Dreamcast link cable for this game to unlock content in CVS 1.😁

It's really a shame that this game is so little known and overshadowed by the corssover games made by Capcom, especially since it's probably never going to be re-released again for these same reasons, plus the fact that Capcom screwed up SNK a lot in the past with the deal to create these games.
SvC Chaos will have its weird decisions, but this game is certainly fun with a lot of quality and content for an 8-bit fighting game, but it will always be ignored by the masses who only care about games made by Capcom.

Well considering that the Neo Geo Pocked (and Color) was a failure to SNK, also specially this game is forgotten because Capcom fanboys only care about the CvS game but not the games made by SNK.

I adopted that rule way back when street fighter alpha 2 was a thing or whatever game it was when you could waste a level 3 meter for a super taunt for Dan.

Can we talk about how great the OST is? Obviously they pushed the system to its limits and made some of the iconic themes recognizable.
yeah, i only wish in hindsight that they hadn't used the SFA3 songs for Dan, Sakura and Akuma. they could go with their older themes.

Guile theme sounds better than ever
When Dan was talking about his dad at the end, being a demon and shooting a laser from his nose, he was 100% referencing Pocket Fighter
So i‘ve recently read the Comic about Dan‘s History with Sagat and i gotta say, whow, Dan might be „the joke“ in Street Fighter, but that comic shows him in a different light. For one, while Dan was still a student under his Father, he was actually very much like Sakura. He looked up to his Dad with pride, he tried his best just for him and he was overall very optimistic about him, his Dojo and the Hibiki future.
But what really hit hard was Dan‘s line after his „fight“ with Sagat. Sagat submitted to Dan, telling him that he expects no mercy and if Revenge is what he wants, he will not resist. And Dan just said: „Revenge? No, i don‘t want Revenge. It‘s not what my Father would‘ve wanted me to do. No Sagat, there is only *ONE* thing i want and not even you can give it. *I want my Father back.* "

So, in a way it was not the fight against Ryu that made him a better fighter... It was his fight with Dan!
I would go for Revenge... i mean, you can be manly and all but that line was absurd. Sometimes you gotta go with the solution that will give you more ease to the soul and the future
In lore Dan is not as silly as his gameplay suggest, but sadly he is in a very bad spot in the world, since he cant get students and has very low resources, he normally enters the tournaments to get more people interested on his dojo.
He also has really good friends in both Sakura and Blanka, who treasure him and know that he is a real nice guy.
But I believe the most you get on how the rest normally see Dan is on the SF4 after battle dialogues, where people really notice that he is trying, even if his style is under develop. There are actually a couple of fighters that do offer jobs for him like Poison and Rolento.
I have to ask how do you use quotation marks like that? It’s wrong it’s supposed to be “like this” in English but I’ve seen people do this before, and have never seen a keyboard with that option.

see, this game is one of the reasons why i say OG game-devs were monsters in the past: the less they had to work with, the more fucking things they somehow managed to do. these sprites are just... it's everything any higher resolution sprites still struggle a lot to achieve
Id say the 8 bit style allows to make fluid animation more easily, and the chibi artstyle allows for more caricaturization wich ends in the characters showing a lot more personality

I mean that's because more money was put into art assets back then because it doubled ass your marketing budget. These days you actually have to spend most of your effort in getting a game to work on multiple consoles, and the price of assets skyrocketed. AND you have to advertise.

I didn't expect Geese and Bison to team up honestly. I know he did with Mr. Big and Krauser back in KoF '96, but he betrayed them. I guess what I'm really surprised at is that he doesn't betray Bison. Maybe he does in his storyline though.
I don't think Geese isn't gonna betray Bison. I just think the player actions didn't give them the chance to do it. I mean they are making a super soldier army. They are definitely gonna betray each other.

I always thought Dan was a parody of Robert and Ryo together. He has the hair style of Robert but has the Gi and moveset of Ryo.
That first stage is actually downtown Osaka. The running man billboard is actually the famous Glico logo that has been there since the 1970s.

The end is refference to Takuma Sakazaki, Ryo's dad. He sometimes shows up as a boss in some SNK games wearing a huge nosed kabuki mask using the name Mr. Karate.
I think there were only 4 times he actually wore the Tengu mask. The first Art of Fighting, SvC Chaos, KoF XI, and KoF XIII.

OMFG 12:37 had me laughing to the point of tears. EVERYTHING about that taunt special moment was perfect! from the dramatic zooming in to Max going "fuck you!" every time, Kyu just watching him do it to Dan jumping in the air turning to the camera to give us a shit grin only to get completely annihilated before he finished was absolute Dan-ism. It was perfect and in my head it was canon lol

It never ceases to amaze me how awesome is this little game! As soon as it gets on Switch, ill buy it. That Krauser stage was a thing of art for a handheld.
I've been playing King of Fighters R-2 and it's literally my favorite game to play on the Switch, I hope they do release this game too since it they're doing a whole Neo Geo Pocket Color series.
Dan's first name is actually Danley, as his father wanted to name him Stanley but accidentally filled his name out as Danley Hibiki.

I only discovered this game a couple years ago, but it is unironically one of my favorite vs games ever. Gameplay is surprisingly intact, and the spritework is so detailed and charming, especially for 8 bit.
Evil Ryu is even more difficult :) but to do that you have to star playing with a SNK character

@@andrako748 while its debatable for the comic, the game is mainly made by Probertson who definitely knows his retro stuff.
@@MintJammer I don't know anything about that company, but unless it's from Latin-America, Brazil, South Korea or Japan, I will still have my doubts if they took SNK into account. Because, as I said, most people in English speaking countries aren't fans of SNK, even if they know the company and are fans of retro games.

Theres no truly good way to beat an input reading cpu, but I like to sit in the corner and block, and if they do nothing, flick the stick forward to move a pixel and they almost always respond
I loved CvS so much, I bought the Neo Geo Color just to play it! This game was so in depth with the characters, and the best part about the game were the mini games! I was able to master all of the games, from getting a perfect on the Samurai Showdown “whack a mole” type game, to Felicia’s “DDR” type game in super hard mode, where you had to input every note perfectly! Oh, the days.... 😁
I'm still so glad that Dan is in the game, i want to see him in action and kicking asses of all Dan haters! Also Kyo waiting for the super taunt to end and then super. What an as*hole!
The only SNK vs Capcom game I want to see is SVC Chaos: SNK vs Capcom getting a PS4 updated release.

It’s an underrated handheld
Looking back at this, I'm surprised no one talks about Dan's ending in this game. Despite being made as a joke character, Dan is surprisingly important to the Capcom/SNK rivalry over time. Even Ryo saw something in Dan that he offer him a job at his Gym/Dojo in Mexico. This might be a theory, but I think Dan's ending is SNK's way of saying "no hard feelings" to Capcom.
Damn you, TH-cam notifications! Ugh...of course I missed this the day of after all my preaching about it! *sigh* Anyway, glad ya finally did it, Max! It was everything I hoped it would be! And then some. All of Dan's animations, quotes from the game, and of course, Max's commentary made this incredible ☺ Also, Kyo is now my favorite character in this game. Not because his moves are sick, probably around top tier, and looks fun as hell to play. No...it is because of 12:37-12:49!

SNK has better miliary characters than Capcom. Ralf and Clark can completely mop the floor with Guile and Charlie, and I pity Cammy if she'd face Leona in a canon battle... Even their theme songs can convey more of a WE'RE AT WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR feeling than Capcom. That includes Guile's theme, that goes with everything...
