We used a sprayer to paint our concrete basement walls and the OSB garage walls, seemed to cover better than a roller on a rough surface.
I need one of them!
Make the stoop easiest to mow/trim around. Also contemplate getting older and using a walker or wheel chair.
Yes....good idea to plan ahead.
That is going to be one nice shop! I am all about white walls and good lighting!
Yes sir.....it really changed the brightness of that side of the shop....and keeps it about 5 degrees cooler!
Brad. I glad that you love to paint. When I have painted a wall in a bedroom room I needed to buy two gallons of paint. One gallon went on the wall and messed up the ceiling and dripped on the floor along and getting all over me. The second gallon finished going on the wall. I do not like to paint. In the past I have purchased the paint for the bedroom and it sat unopened for the next two years before I got up the nerve to paint again. Love your videos. Bernie from Virginia Beach, Va.
It's one of those things that I put off for a long time, but then when I start, I paint everything that doesn't move. Thanks for watching!
I did light gray and painted first coat laying flat before installing
That will get the paint in all the grooves for sure!
On my OSB, I did a complete base coat with Kilz then top coat with white paint. Held up great.
The color edge lets you quickly visually see what thickness.
I was surprised how much I like it!
We built a remote cabin over 20 years ago. Because we don’t heat it all the time drywall wouldn’t hold up so I used OSB. I bought 5 gallons of good paint cheap at a big box store as it was some paint they mixed but was never picked up. I remember I paid $18 for it. I then put white in the kitchen area and a light brown in the living area. It’s held up great with no bleed through.
I was surprised at how much I liked it after it was painted!
@ We like it in our cabin. It isn’t fancy like a lot of cabins with wood boards on the walls but it is strong and has a good vapor barrier behind it.
I've got OSB on the wall where I setup my French cleat wall. I didn't paint it, but starting to think I need to paint it. Looks good.
We love how it came out! Thanks for watching.
As you said the prep is the worst part , pre painting the sheets when they are laying flat really helps to fill the holes and and flattens the surface . Makes the top coat quick and easy. Your choice of white will reward you with a great light work area .
So true!
I didn't know i needed a shower in my shop until i saw this video 😮
Glad to help!! Get one going today!
Great info and content! I love Brad communicating his thought process ans strategy. Home is making a progress!
We appreciate the kind words and support!
Good call priming the whole wall. I never had great results spot priming over rough material.
I think the double priming made a big difference.
I use 2 coats of zep 123 primer and 2 coats of a quality acrylic over that. It's more durable than painted plywood. Painted a lot of that in the carribbean for people. Your shop is looking great. You need to come organize mine for me... lol
It's getting there....happy to have all that OSB off the floor!
Hi Brad and Deb.
Hello! Thanks for watching!
While I"m not personally a fan of exposed OSB, it's a perfectly valid and versatile product at an attractive cost for utility use in addition to its intended purpose in the building process. Workshop walls are a good example of that where you want the ability to "screw anywhere" as compared to the cost of plywood. Your wall looks great and will serve you well. Your observation about the double priming is spot-on...
On the cost of the electrician for that outlet, when you consider the time for them to drive to your property, deal with the task at hand including any components they had to supply and then drive back or to the next job, $100 is pretty reasonable. And you know it was done correctly.
We like to throw the electrician some work so he will respond to the small jobs we have coming up. It's one trade that's hard to get to come onsite for small stuff!
My area the 1/2 inch plywood was 10.00 dollars cheaper the the 1/2 OSB board I had to have 30 sheets to do my garage work shop 3 car garage with one 16 foot by 12 foot uverhead door.
Plywood is a little easier to handle but it doesn't have a texture when you paint it. Thanks for watching.
thats crazy ply is almost always more costly,im a builder
Brad switches and basic 2- plug outlets are really easy to do. I think your scared you'll get shocked or something. As long as the main power is off or the power where your getting the hot wires from are all off it won't shock you. You simply buy a power tester to check and verify powers off ( by meter or switch) you simply have 3 wires to look for white, black and bare wire ( ground) watch some basic videos on it educate yourself and save money! Once you learn the basics you'll wonder why you paid to move a switch or outlet.
I've done it a little in the past but when I go to buy supplies I never know what I need! Don't want to burn down our buildings!! Thanks for watching!
@ that's what breakers are for. I was too scared I'd do it wrong but my uncle that's a industrial electrician said to me, it either will work or it won't and the won't is why they put breakers in for..
if your shop is attached to living space it need sheet rock for fire rating by code.
#truth
Why not remove the metal wall supports, seeing that you have stuffed the walls with wood and sprayed foam on the ceiling?
The metal is the building support structure.....the framing is to hold the OSB. The foam is for insulation. this metal building is rated to 150mph wind load.
OSB is garbage,, but its cheap so i use it.
It has its place in construction. I think it's better for a wall covering than plywood.
@@PineyGroveHomestead It soaks water like a spunge, glad you painted it.
SPRAY the paint... rollers and brushes do not do well with all the cracks, gaps, and texture of OSB.
I don't have a sprayer!
