Dope topic, dope interview. My take is that at first it was the streets that created and influenced hip hop culture. Now I think it's the music industry and the music industry's money that's tryna dictate culture back to the streets.

Big Herc hip hop has gone that way do to I feel how upbringing have changed from back in the day when I was growing up my parents showed me how to work hard respect other but they also don't let anyone step out of line with you and if they do Handel your business and put them in there place but now if you do that in any school now they automatically lable the kid violent it's not self defense anymore

Hello, and good day to you...love your honesty and style of projecting what is REAL; especially pertaining to the Black/Hispanic/Asian and White present situations on many levels. What Ghost said about having children with many different women is so on point. Every time a male spreads his seeds to many different women; at some level, some of those women having a child or children with him are going to lacking in many different situations (support financially, support emotional, support in sharing, support in learning, support in loving). The strength of any family structure; starts to crumble when those main factors in building a solid foundation of FAMILY are compromised. Too much pulling on emotions and financial support matters. FACT!!!!

We all have choices and freedoms...anything that puts that scenario in jeopardy should always make you do the best for your own future and good health. Thanks to both of you for pulling off the false attractiveness of this'Thug Life". Going to any kind of confinement is educational and soul crushing. I'm sure that both of our narrators have had flashbacks of repressed painful experience. That's the truth about Hip Hop right there. I'm a white boy from the UK and I've always always loved rap. Hell yeh KRS One and Run DMC, but I was a 90's teenager so it was all about Biggie and WuTang for me. No idea what Rap is like now as I just keep running the old stuff it was so good. Also I love rock and I'm a rock musician, and what Ghost is saying about cypher's and freestyles in rap is so true - just get a beat and you can do it right there on the spot. Rock music needs time invested before the show - weeks / months of writing, refining, band practice etc.
With Rap you can just go for it. You don't even need a beat. It's alive. It's always there. As I said I don't listen to the new stuff, but back in the day it was the most awesome music ever.
Plus it taught young men to be MEN. Not to take any BS, be tough, ambitious, street smart, cautious, alert, independent, to retain respect for the place you came from, to respect yourself.

Your channel and interviews keep me grounded when I feel the rage building up. I'm reminded of some of these stories.... and think STOP! Going wild could end me up in there..... Nah... turn it off. You guys are doing a great thing by sharing your stories and showing others by leading by example. Like you said a real gangster / hard MF'er is a good dad, hard working man, who doesn't quit and is a rock for his family to turn to and lean on. The hip-hop/rap format is powerful for the fact that you are packing all of those words into each verse. Its a great way to say a lot in a short time. And then the fact that you rhyme it, build storytelling, it's like the nursery rhymes we had in the Dr. Seuss books, imagination to the maximum and a catchy melody, it sticks into people's heads just like all music does really.

I'm Cuban , we kiss our dad , uncles , cousins , on the cheek. That's it though. I've been all over the world with the Army , as dar as I know it's not customary for men to kiss each other on the mouth anywhere.
If that's you , live your life. It's none of my concern what other people do.

Speaking big facts... My personality and character changed along with the music I was brainwashing myself with. Being a "Rubix cube" untill after highschool started slanging and addicted to fast cars and money to becoming a heavy user and imprisoning myself for 15+years on opiates and anything else to mix with it. Finally turning my life around when I seen how I was chasing the wrong things.

I'm a middle-aged Haitian American man from Flatbush, Brooklyn, who grew up between those mean streets and the suburbs of the San Fernando Valley area of Los Angeles, during the early 1970s through the 1990s.
I was present during the infancy of Hip-hop in NYC and Los Angeles.
I'm an organized crime historian as a result of being a Brooklynite for over forty years, and the correlation with gangsterism in hip-hop came naturally.
Hip-hop was funky, poetic, aggressive, boastful, cocky, dangerous, masculine, articulate, thought-provoking, and confident!
I never imagined that rap music would become this lost, confused, feminine, ignorant, and immoral.
This is also a reflection of our society and the war against manhood and masculinity!

84 baby right here, grew up with the dopest hip hop ever made, with MC's and rap groups that truly personified the term legendary. It's an absolute disgrace what hip hop and rap music has become as far as the mainstream goes. There are still good rap artists out there. However they are not in the lime light and you have to do some real searching to find them. It's truly a sad sad time to be a fan of real rap music. The industry is an absolute joke now.

    • @SlayerTomentor

85 baby here. I don't get this shit with the skinny jeans, baby T's and putting cellphone video of their dirt online. And then if you shit talk Lil Nas, you run the risk of getting canceled for being homophobic. They tried to do that to Michael Rappaport because he said the truth! Lil Nas sucks! He's GAR-BAGE! it's got nothing to do with him being gay. He's just trash.

I've listen to rap like 30 years, and I agree, it's going to get played out if its only about violence and weirdo stuff. Imo it should get more political and social causes because then it may actaully be a tool in raising people up and enlightening them. Not saying if your a gangsta don't ever rap about it, but it needs more topics then just everyone murder everyone, that's gonna play itself out. Look at rock n roll, you would never expect all rock to only focus on one topic of murdering, but there might be some songs about it. But it needs to cover all topics that are on people's mind.
