Thank you, we'll done, clear concise without skipping over things but making it clear that if your not following along perhaps you should not be taking the phone apart at all lol. Thank you again for this video incredibly helpful
Glad it helped! I do go a little fast in the videos but try to cram as much information as I can. I used to re-watch my videos and see so much awkward quiet time unscrewing screws, decided to go fast!
@@TapticDigital no, I think it's just right and for the record I'm not being pretentious or shitty when I say, if they don't understand they shouldn't be doing it, I'm saying I feel like you put it out there in a very relatable way and if they still aren't getting it maybe they should consider a professional because this video put it very plainly.
This has been helpful, but a few of the jumpcuts were problematic for me, doing a first time repair. It really took a lot of time and brainpower to realize that I had to take out the sim card holder before I could get the main board off, for example.

Sorry for all these questions. I've never tackled a screen replacement before. For double stick tape, would Scotch brand work? And would I lay a thin (1/8" or less) width of tape along the inner edges of the back panel?@@TapticDigital
It's good to know this can be done. My model of this phone just died so I'm hoping I'll be able to open it up and put a different battery in there to get all the data off before I go ahead and switch over to the 2023 model. The Motorola g play is just a great prepaid phone and you just can't beat the price at like $40
@@yougeo exactly, the Motorolas may not be the highest spec or most durable devices, but if you want a phone that just plain works for a good price, Moto is the way to go!
How many videos do you think I would have to watch to be able to have my Motorola tricked out with settings and being able to revive it should the screen break? Let me know gotta run the cat needs to be walked
Did you find the display cable fussy? When i tried to put the battery in the display cable wouldn't stay flat and disconnected itself, and i'd have to bend the connector to keep it in place, which would damage the display.
Fussy is an understatement, those cables are somehow just a millimeter or so different and it constantly wants to disconnect. Or the ribbon tries to crease badly when the battery goes in. Super annoying but eventually I got it just right. I think on one or two I left slack at the very bottom where it comes through the frame.
Great video. I used it to replace the screen on my phone. However, now when I am on speakerphone the other person can't hear me. I hear them just fine. Same on FaceTime calls. Calls not on speakerphone work fine Does this phone have two different microphones?
Hmmm sounds like the top microphone isn't functioning. It's unlikely that it was damaged, what could be happening is if your new part did not include the rubber gaskets for them. At 1:57 in the top right corner is a rubber gasket with yellow around it, there's a matching one at the bottom too. Sometimes if this gasket isn't there the microphone can't detect sound
You'll lose a lot of functions, but yes it will technically still work. You'd have to solder the microphones off. If you're worried about being tracked, you'd also want to remove the GPS, wifi antenna, and Bluetooth radio, and at that point you might just be safer not carrying a phone.
The Moto G has no official IP rating, while it does have a lot of rubber gaskets and adhesive, liquid is likely to find its way in even if you've never had a repair.
My one action got almost all of the water in the top through its headphone jack (same little rubber gasket as this g play) and a bit through he speaker holes on the bottom. Definitely resistant but full submersion for an hour or two messed mine up good 😅
Make sure it's not a settings issue first, and if you've confirmed it's hardware related I would consider just buying a new vibrator. Sometimes when removing them the small board with contacts can "crack" internally and won't make contact with the actual moving stuff.
@@TapticDigital I thought it was a hardware thing, because it wouldn't vibrate when I cycled through sound modes or plugged in a charger and an app on the play store that's supposed to let me test it also didn't work. But I restarted it and put it in my pocket and when you're reply came through it vibrated and now vibrates when I plug it in. 🤷 Thanks for the reply, the g play saw you coming and got back to work 😂 Thanks again for the video!
@@TapticDigital That's exactly what i was saying 😂 I always love it when it works like that, and of the slew I watched of these videos earlier about the g play. This video was the best one around 👌
Still some thermal paste stuck to the bottom of the board. It isn't needed in the first place due to how mid-range the hardware is, I've seen Motorola come in for nearly every problem in the book, but never overheating.

Fair point, sometimes I forget those things! I'll try to include it more in future guides!

Hi, you mentioned new adhesive. What type of adhesive do I need? Thanks.
I use Tesa double sided tape for most repairs, though sometimes I use B7000 glue

Hi there. How did you heat up the phone to melt the glue?
I use a silicone heating pad set to 50c. You can also use a heat gun or hair dryer
Also, I have a XT2093-4. What does the "4" mean in the model number. Would screens that fit the XT2093-3 fit mine?
That's just the revision of the device. Motorola is weird, it's kind of a "sometimes matters" thing. I'd try and find the specific version.
If I remove the cameras microphones and sensors, will the phone still work?

You didnt reapply the thermal paste? Why?
Speaker is really easy to split apart. Make sure to get fully under speaker before lifting.

How do we contact you for repair??
I don't offer mail-in repairs just yet! I'd check local shops with decent reviews
Loved the video, hate the annoying music! Not needed for instructional videos IMO!
Good to know! Thanks for the feedback
Yeah the music is lil bit distracting
I need a screen for that model 😔
Shouldn't be too hard to find on Mobile Defenders, Injured Gadgets, eBay or even Amazon sometimes.
But it can be fixed if the screen appears 👍
