When my girls room got to the point they could never clean it themselves, one time I pushed absolutely everything that was on the floor into the hallway. I then swept their room while they sat on their beds. Then we tidied up everything else in the room and I allowed them to choose 10 items each from the hall. I said if they complained they would get one item less for every complaint. Then I pushed everything else from the hall into trash bags and told them we would talk about the bags of items in a few months. They absolutely loved their clean, easy to tidy room and we never got the things out of the bags.

Anytime you take a photo of your child’s artwork have that child hold it in the photo. That way you know who made it and how adorable they were at the time that they made it. Then just toss the picture and just keep this photo with all your other photos like any other picture. You can even spread all the pictures they made for a time all around them on the floor and snap just one photo that captures it all.

Yes! My mom did that for me and my brother every 6 months and it's so fun to look back at our proud little faces surrounded by art in the living room. She kept a couple of favorites sometimes.

I am an empty nester. I have been downsizing a lot. Have gotten to the point that I do not want any countertop appliances. My basic appliances do everything I need for cooking. I am loving the simplicity.

I cannot stand things on my counter, however, I don’t have the storage space in my cabinets for my toaster, mixer and last year my daughter bought me the Ninja Foodie 😑. When she moves out I will send it with her but until then I’m stuck.

I really enjoyed this pod cast. I watch all the decluttering videos and has helped me start decluttering for the last few years. Still have a way to go but I am very intentional of what I bring in my home now.

I appreciate that it was mentioned that minimalism and decluttering will look different based on family dynamics and size. When you have children, decluttering and/or what we have in our home will be different. Similarly, when you have a large family, it's often not cost effective to declutter heavily. I think the point is investing well, in items that will last or can be used by multiple children. I don't like repurchasing everything for each child; that feels wasteful. We invest in non toxic higher quality wooden toys, and items they can pass on and reuse, like certain shoes, coats, church clothes, etc. I'd love a resource for realistic minimalism and simplicity in large family homes. If anyone has a suggestion pass it along.

For holidays 7 big Ikea blue bags one for Easter, one for fall, one for Halloween, one for other spring/summer holidays (valentine's day, st Patrick's day, 4th of July etc.) And 3 for Christmas. They stack nicely in the attic but fold up when empty. I pull the next season out a few weeks before I am ready to decorate to see what I have and if I buy more then I have to make room for it in that one bag. It forces me to realistic with my self "do I really need another throw?" I come from a long line of women who tended to hoard, so I have to fight the urge to stock up on all the clearance things or just in case items.

Mix books- make an Instagram account for each kid or your kids as a whole and make it completely private. Then take pictures to that account of artwork and other things and have it set that after maybe 30 pictures have mixbooks auto-create a book that is sent to you.

What do you do with the kiwi crates your kids get? We have been keeping them on a shelf, but it's adding up.

Do you use cast iron oil and cast-iron soap when cleaning and seasoning your pans? I’ve never used cast-iron and I’m inspired to buy one after watching several of your TH-cam videos sharing recipes using sourdough in cast-iron. Just wondering if I need to go to that expense or if I can just use my regular dishwashing soap and olive oil to season.

Haha! That’s my 6 yr old son,
He’s got a tubberware of rocks on his night stand. 🤣
I wish I could completely clean out our property.. my husband is completely the anchor that holds me back. Anytime I get rid of anything he throws such a fit. Thanks to his hoarder of a mom 🙄😑

You lost m e completely when you spouted Oprah Winfreys being your authentic self.
All l want is to declutter my house. I am my self, have no l idea what being authentic self is, is sounds like a lot of new age rubbish...l not interested in. Just decluttering.

Authentic self means knowing yourself and how you function in everyday situations.
Clutter Bug channel really helped me understand my organizing style and how to facilitate it by using a different method unique to me.

I also think it means who you truly are now and not your fantasy self, i.e. keeping craft supplies you plan to use someday when you have time, or keeping things from a hobby you haven't used for 10 years.
