None of these are some of *the best* riffs though. This video only proves, quite entertainingly though, that you can make a decent riff on one open string or one fret.
@@kyronfrain6774 It's a well known fact that you need at least 2 frets to write some of the best riffs. OK, I'm just playing here. Of course it's all subjective.
The best part is how it flawlessly transitions from the solo to the breakdown, like you already have this epic solo and you assume they'll just go to the chorus again but after the solo keeps building and building to the climax suddenly it just slams down into this crushing breakdown with Dimebag's signature juggernaut guitar tone and just finishes out the song like that out of nowhere.
The best thing is, that The Mirror riff is so directly influenced by Domination. Same goes for Gojira’s Lizard Skin and Decapitated’s Spheres Of Madness.
I was thinking to myself 'Oh I hope he plays the second part of the riff for the Mirror' and then 'Wait, wow. I guess that counts'. It fits so perfectly
Some might call one note riffs lazy but it's wild we can all remember these as seperate songs. If anything I find it more impressive single notes can be used so creatively. Also so glad to see Carcass on here.
that's the importance of rhythm in metal. I have this thing where a lot of my friends I used to DJ with were all in metal bands at some point, myself included. We all just love a good groove
@@sewageinspector They're all the same bland sound. When they're part of something bigger they work, on their own they're something a beginner could accidentally play lmao

One I feel is just the most impactful one just for the fact that the whole song it’s been melodic and harmonic and then by the end it just friggen drops and slams you with the machine gun riff.
Eye of the Beholder is the most underrated one in And Justice in my opinion, someone may hate me for what I'm about to say but the worst one may be Dyers Eve (imo)

I clicked on this thinking it’d be the same 10 most picked metal bands for riffs (gotta suck off the algorithm) but I loved the variety! Subbed for sure.
Sepultura's Beneath the Remains album has a shitload of great 0-0-0-0-0 riffs. Best example being Lobotomy, there's an awesome one in the beginning, and another one at the end which is also the same one from the beginning of Mass Hypnosis.
This really shows you can make lots of killer riffs by just playing 1 open chord over and over but with a snazzy, muted rhythm to it. This is one reason I enjoy playing rhythm guitar so much. Trying to think if my metal band has any riffs like that... a little bit, it's more we have a few riffs inspired by the concept (as ours either switches to a different chord or are intersected by quick single note riffing.)
Next: "Desperate Cry" by Sepultura after The acoustic break "Jambi" by Tool, The verse or The Breakdown "Reptile" by Periphery, The Last Riff before The song Ends "Remembrance" by Gojira (a person in The coments mention this One), The Last Break "Waidsmanns Heil" by Rammstein, The Breakdown
Zero the Hero could've been on this list. It has a pretty simple riff and it can grind humans with it's heaviness. One of the heaviest sabbath riffs ever.
No frets were harmed while making this video.
Maybe the second fret on a string

it shows how much tone matters as well

What a clean example of how drums complete guitars and vice versa. These riffs would sound so awkward without the drums but they sound amazing with.
