SNSD are amazing! The Boys, in particular, caused multiple other groups back in the day to delay their cbs because no one wanted to go up against them. One of the legends for a reason.
In 2008, South Korea suffered a near catastrophic economic collapse.
The next year, 11% of the economic recovery that took place was traced back to SNSD's "Gee."
That song owned every single music chart in Korea for 13 straight weeks and made people go out and spend money again.
It's not a stretch to say that those 9 girls helped save Korea.
As an aside, Taeyeon HATED this song. She would cry backstage at the thought of performing it.
It became kind of an inside joke that if Taeyeon hated a song, it was sure to become a hit.

Fun fact: Girls' Generation also has an English version of "The Boys." This song was part of their American debut in 2011 and it was included on their English album that was designed specifically for the American market. Girls' Generation (SNSD) was actually one of the first Kpop acts to break into the U.S. music scene and they did a few late night talk shows, such as David Letterman, and a couple of morning shows in the U.S. You should check out their appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman ("Girls' Generation/SNSD @David Letterman") and their appearance on Live with Kelly Ripa, ("120201 LIVE! with Kelly | Girls' Generation - Interview + The Boys (US)").
As you discovered, SNSD don't just have a cute concept, but with most of their songs they are sexy and fierce. They are different than most other Kpop girl groups. They are all super gorgeous -- all known for their beautiful image -- and yet very girl next door-like and very relatable. They are legends in the industry for a reason. SNSD are "the nation's girl group" and considered queens for a reason. :D They are the girl group, that most other girl groups who came after them are modeled after.

19:45 that's sunny!!! my first ever bias in kpop (gee days). lead vocalist and aegyo queen of the group. she did at least 3 musicals for the past few years. she was active in variety shows as well!! i'm really happy you recognised her bec she's usually forgotten in snsd.

I luv Sunny! She's not my bias but she's my wrecker. And imho she's not forgotten at all in snsd. She might not be as active as the other members but it looks to me like she still has a huge following and is much luvved to this day, and is also mentioned a lot by many reacters and snsd content creators.
fun fact, SNSD is also known as the group that has the most beautiful legs in all of kpop. not just one member, but all members.
Girls' Generation's "Gee" and "Genie" were both released in 2009, 2 years after their debut.
As you can see, "Gee" has a pretty simple story. How I interpreter it is the girls are mannequins in a clothing store that come to life after store hours when no one is watching. Kind of like if you have ever seen the 1980s movie called "Mannequin". They all have a crush on the handsome young store manager, who is played by Minho from SHINee, who had just turned 17 about a month before "Gee" was released. The girls are tired of being trapped in the store and one night they decide to escape. Minho comes back in the morning and discovers that the mannequins are missing, but I guess he isn't too concerned because he is employee of the month and he is on cloud nine because the girls all kissed his picture. (There's a reason why Miho is SNSD's favorite boy in real life. You should check out a video all about how Minho is SNSD's favorite younger brother.) There is no deep story there, it's exactly what you see. :D
On a side note: SHINee is SNSD's juniors, and they debuted a year after Girls' Generation. As label mates they often are featured in each others' MVs. As you have seen, Jessica, a member of SNSD, also was in SHINee's "Sherlock (Clue & Note)" MV in 2013.
Just like SHINee made colored skinny jeans a thing for guys back then, SNSD's "Gee" made colored skinny jeans a thing for girls.
"Gee" and "Genie" are two of SNSD's most famous songs and they are probably one of the most well-known Kpop girl group songs of all time. If you ask anyone around the world if they know any Kpop songs, at least one of the songs they will mention, and probably do the dance too, is "Gee" or "Genie." They are so well known that pretty much every group in the industry, both girl groups and boy groups, know this song and dance and probably have even done a cover performance at least once in their career. For example, if you have ever seen boy groups doing girl group dances, then I am sure you have probably seen them dance to "Gee." It's pretty much the go to song.
"Beep Beep" is one of SNSD's Japanese songs, so that is why it isn't on SM's channel. (Moshi moshi is Hello in Japanese, so they are talking on the phone saying, hello.) Most Japanese MVs are either uploaded by their Japanese production companies or by a Japanese fan, because Japanese songs weren't typically promoted outside of Japan at that time.
Also back in the day, Japanese MVs would only be released as 'short version', just over a minute long, to make people buy the album and stop downloading.

In terms of facial features, Hyoyeon and Sunny are definitely easier to recognize, besides their already distinct voices. Taeyeon is pretty easy for people to spot because of her voice. The one you liked in The Boys (with tons of sass) is Sooyoung, she’s also pretty easy to spot because she’s the tallest out of all of them. If someone is speaking English, chances are it’s either Tiffany or Jessica since they’re the fluent speakers of the group, though Tiffany’s voice is huskier than Jessica’s. The one you liked in Lion Heart and Party from the other video was Tiffany. Seohyun, Yuri, and Yoona are harder for newer fans to differentiate, hence the reason why they’re called the “Bermuda Triangle”. Noticing them apart will just take time and being exposed to them long enough.
SM artists used to appear in each other's MVs way more often, Minho was cute here, he had just turned 17 when this came out, he might still have been 16 when it was filmed, SHINee"s debut was in 2008, less than a year after SNSD. If you remember the ghost girl from Sherlock but that was Jessica from SNSD, Victoria from f(x) was the noona in Replay too!

Taeyeon and Jessica were the main vocalists back in the day and they harmonized a bunch!
Genie live performances are a treat, in my opinion. Tiffany (the girl who sings the 'DJ put it back on' line) would use the name of the city they are performing instead (e.g. Chicago, Tokyo etc.) Their live performances in general are better than studio even.

Sunny and Yuri use to be on a KBS show called Invincible Youth. It's pretty much how I was introduced to Kpop. It had 7 Kpop artist from different groups living on a farm. Somewhat like the Surreal Life but with more charming characters. It's still on TH-cam and worth the watch. Sunny was super cute and cheesy on that show. Other idols were Hyuna from 4mimute, Hara from Kara, a member from T-ara, a member from Secret and Narsha from Brown Eyed Girls. One of my favorite episodes was when Minho visited the show. Totally hilarious.

Minho is their boy😂For real girls have lovely friendship with Shinee. Key and Taeyeon known as "siblings", they are both cast in Nolto. But also Key and Minho fighting at MMTG because SNSD song Paparazzi is such comedy really😂
For me it seems you notice Tiffany time to time, I think it was her in Gee you mention - short wavy hair and cap(1:43). She has a lower/deeper voice out of girls if that helps, also hers usually english lines, once you put attention you will notice everytime. If not her in Gee might be Sunny(2:33) again or maybe Yuri(3:31)🤔.
Some is pretty easy to put faces to names by features - Sunny(19:38 unique face, colored hair too), Sooyoung(2:43, 13:31 she just looks like model, but eyes, smile, tall), Tiffany(12:38,19:29, 20:53 eyes and smile), Hyo(2:57 unique face, smile and husky voice) Taeyeon(her voice) and Jessica(13:40, 15:03 voice, slim face).
Usually everyone new struggle with our Bermuda triangle - Yoona (1:58, 11:18 baby face), Yuri(14:38, 15:29 eyes, skin and smile) and Seohyun(1:32, 13:12 cheekbones and voice). They appear one by one in 18:43 - 18:58, Yoona short hair, Seo has wings and Yuri in blue top.
You will get there in time. Hope for next reaction to Oh!, Run Devil Run(story version), You Think. Also Chocolate Love might be a cool one to choose. And best guide for girls is by ohwoowoo in cause you want one.

And "Genie" was the song that seriously got me into k-pop in like 2011.
I heard Taeyeon's Adlibs towards the end, and was like "Hmmm, maybe there is something to this K-pop thing after all..."
After all this time it's still my favorite K-pop song of all time, (probably because it holds such a special place in my heart).

Your new intro is excellent, and in fact, did make me smile. ALSO LOL Austin you got him hyped for Beep Beep. (It is a good song, albeit in my opinion a little bit annoying, but still good.) I'd say my favorite SNSD song is probably "All Night" because THE FEELS, and "The Boys" because fully iconic. "Genie" is a close third, and was one of the first choreos I learned the chorus for! Also "The Boys" has an ENGLISH version and it slaps just as hard. Also "Paparazzi." You're welcome.
I think the members that are easy to recognise are
Taeyeon for her voice
Hyoyeon and Sunny for their features and distinct voices
Sooyoung for being so tall and also unique visual
Tiffany and Jessica often getting the English lines and some belty notes if it's not Taeyeon.
Seohyun later on gets more belty bits but you're gunner get lost in the Bermuda triangle for a while with her Yuri and Yoona 🤣(Yoona usually centre and Yuri for her more sultry voice)
I noticed that youre lowkey into SM artists so I hope you check out TVXQ one day, they are one of the most influential groups in kpop. As well as an iconic SM girlgroup f(x) that have so many bops.

Complimenting their legs from their Genie era (2009) lol. Also Daniel Radcliffe picked Tiffany as the prettiest member when he received a copy of their 2011 album Mr. Taxi as a gift from a fan, Tiffany got Brad Pitt to give a shoutout to Sooyoung who was a fan of him (around 2013 I think), in 2012/2013 the girls met Linkin Park in Japan, and in around 2009, they also met Avril Lavigne in Japan

The legendary queens! They brought Minho back for the Japanese MV for Gee which is on SM’s channel. He looked so much older even though it was just a year or two later! Also all the SM boys, especially Taemin and Key, have covered SNSD songs so it may be fun to react to those once you’re done with your SNSD deep dive. Let me know if you want me to send you links!
If you want to find Tiffany, pay attention to who has the most natural sounding English lines. Tiffany’s a CA girl. In Genie for instance, her iconic line is “DJ put it back on”.

Running commentary/answers:
- Gee came out in January 2009, so Minho had just turned 17 the month before (internationally).
- Beep Beep was released digitally in 2012, but the full MV didn't come out till late 2013.
- The boys (2011) - yes you got Hyoyeon right. Since you loved this one, please check out the English remixed version they performed on Letterman (even better choreo and they kill it live vocally despite multiple members being sick at the time).
- Genie was 2009 so they look young, but I think this was their first somewhat more mature concept.
- I'd recommend Run devil Run, Catch me if you can and You think for your next reaction - See another side of the group.

Remember when colored jeans were a thing? They basically made the trend happen. There are videos out there talking about how absolutely massive Gee was because you had people of all ages singing and dancing along to it when it came out. It also stayed top on music shows for 9 weeks in a row

Genie is the most iconic. They performed on like a naval ship or something in those white outfits.This song is very iconic back then and even now. So many girl groups covered it. I can't describe how big this song was. From iconic outfits to the catchy chorus.tbh it wasn't my favourite when I watched it for the first time but it is a grower.

You really need to watch Genie, Live at Madison Square Garden. Live performances the best, concerts. Some of their best performances are at concerts, 3rd Japan Concert, Gossip Girls, Lips, on and on. You've done Lionheart and Genie, so I think my current rec would be All Night - the clean mv ver is the music video only; the long ver has clips of them talking in it. So I'd recommend the clean ver first, to get the whole song in it's like, pure form lol

Not bad. The Boys is my fav song. So bloody good. So catchy. The MV is cool too all these years later. RJ u know they have an Eng version too. This song was everywhere at Anime Con in NYC back when.
