I really like Arlington. Specifically the "down town" or the extension of DC area. Its convenient, walkable and very easy to get to other parts of DC by the awesome DC subway.
One hidden gem of Arlington as far as commuting is it does have a good bus system that can take you into Rosslyn or the Pentagon so you can live off the metro and still have quick commuting times. Columbia Pike has super quick bus routes. Busses also technically don't cost you anything if you are transferring to metro.

I agree that section off of the orange line between Rosslyn to Ballston is my favorite as well. Any favorite spots there?
