  • An old friend came to fly at Wawayanda again after too much time in the hangar. The 27" free-flight rubber-powered model of the I.Ae. 27 Pulqui I was flown on 6.12.24 at 7:30AM, following a beautiful sunrise a couple of hours earlier, though the air was still damp, but getting warmer. She remains one of my favorite flyers! Filmed by Tom Hallman with a Canon PowerShot SX20, and iPhones 11Pro & 14Pro. Music via the fine musicians at ArtList.io, who add life to my films.
    Model is based on these formers. I built it directly over the 3-view. I don't have a completed plan available. The link includes photos from the bones stage along with the finished model:

    Mr Tom, It would be awesome if one day you could build a "Nose Air intake" type jet fighter model (like a MIG-15 or F86- SABRE) but with a rubber powered ducted fan!🤓🤔😉
    What kind of technical impediments of such construction lay-out could have??!🤔🤓
    Would the flight autonomy of this model be affected?🤔
    I am really looking forward to that... 🤗
    With your all your skills and your expertise and as being a very talented model builder, she will be a WONDERFUL BIRD for sure!😏😊😎
    Thx for giving us always the opportunity of watching such beautiful videos...😉
    Please Mr Tom, never stop giving and sharing with us!!!😶

      Thx! Rubber ducted fan is a tough road for FF. So much power is needed, with little room for the rubber to create it, for endurance at lease....thus, the prop on the nose which, for me, mostly disappears. Somewhere on my channel is the MiG-15 with the prop on the nose. The swept back wing makes for a tricky CG, but when she's in the sweet zone, she really soars. th-cam.com/video/5nhkJ94FUVc/w-d-xo.html

    Hi Tom! Beautiful video, as always. That Pulqui is a sweet flier! There's just something about straight wing jet planes that I really like! The P/F-80, straight wing F-84's, FJ-1 Fury, and the Panther are just a few. A plane very similar to the Pulqui that would make an interesting project is the Douglas D558-1 Skystreak! A friend built a display model of one from a vintage 1950's kit that had originally been designed for Jetex. Was a very nice little plane!

      @@astircalix4126 I designed this model 15 years ago, and simply built it over a 3-view enlarged to 27" span, using classic rubber-model structural design. I wish I had made a proper plan. But I do have the formers on a sheet, along with many photos of the bones, so hopefully this will be a good starting point for you. Keep me posted if you follow thru. www.hallmanstudio.com/Pulqui.pdf

      @@maxfliartThanks for your support. I have an aluminum model made by someone who may have been an FMA apprentice in the late 1940s. I also have a brochure written and presented to my father by the engineer Morchio, a member of the Pulqui team led by Emile Dewoitine. I appreciate your hindsight.
      PS If you have a public email I will send you a bunch of photos about this.

    Let's see, the winder goes counter-clockwise and the model circles to the right. Hmmm...........must be in the southern hemisphere or the video has been flipped. Which is it?

    • @maxfliart

      It’s a Rees winder with gearing that requires u to wind in the opposite direction.

      Here's an article I wrote on the use of dethermalizers: www.hallmanstudio.com/DT.pdf The Pulqui uses the method of individual pivoting stabs.

    Beautiful stable flier, Tom. Quite tricky with a low winger - but perhaps the breadth of the wings makes the plane fly so well? I again noticed the tissue looked a little slack in the first images (damp, early morning?). I've asked you before, but what dope (sorry, english term for cellulose product) are you using on the tissue? Lovely five minutes spent in the company of that aircraft and the Wawayand sky. Thanks, Tom (from France).

    • @maxfliart
      @maxfliart  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thx, Tom. I've been flying her since 2012, and have documented her path quite well on my channel. Once I figured out the CG & thrust, she started to groove and hasn't looked back. I enjoy seeing her soar. I use Krylon matte spray, which is an acrylic / enamel compound that I use mainly for its ability to prevent further shrinking of the tissue (and warps) once you have it drum tight. Plus it's very light. The downside is that it doesn't give u a thick, shell-like finish as dope would, so whenever moisture is around, as it was in this early morning air, the tissue will wrinkle. Sure, it could affect the aero, but my goal this morning was to see her soar against that incredible sky, regardless of the finish. I was glad to see that it didn't matter that much to the Pulqui. Some models can't handle the wrinkles very well, but for me, the benefits of the Krylon outweigh the downside. Perhaps there's a similar product in Europe?

    I don't know what it is that creates the emotional response with some planes and not others? Perhaps it's the installing of a prop on a jet? Great flyer yet, for me, something was missing. Sorry Tom.

    Interestingly… designed by Emil Dewoitine, who after collaborating with the Germans during WWII, fled to Argentina when charged with treason by the post war French government. One built. Nice flyer!

    • @ZUSMANELEN
      @ZUSMANELEN 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Émile Dewoitine did not collaborate with the Germans but it is more coerect to say that he was forced to work with them otherwise he would have lost all his factories and workshops seized by the Germans...
      By working with the Germans, he manage to keep somewhat the control of his company and keeping Germans from Arado from snooping inside the Company's "aircraft designs and researches files".
      Moreover he did not allow his company to make any military aircraft, EVER!
      There would never have been any Airbus factories in Toulouse if it was without Émile Dewoitine.
      After all, he was proven not guilty of collaboration and acquitted by a court of law in 1953 when he returned to France after living in Patagonia Argentina where he designed this magnificent aircraft: the FMA I.Ae. 27 Pulqui I.

      So, when I last read that he “fled” to Argentina… he was actually being persecuted by the French government, who later exonerated him? I wonder why Google’s vaunted “context” source (Wikipedia) has not yet caught up with this information? I appreciate you setting me straight on this!
