  • Well we’ve finally done the boat tour video people have been asking for. There’s so much to show on and in our 1982 Whitby 42 Ketch built in Ontario, Canada that we’ve split into two parts for you. In this first video we take you through full details of everything on deck including our bespoke, hard topped fully enclosed cockpit, the Liesurefurl, in boom furling mainsail, our anchor of choice and much more. Jump on board and have a look.
    We have recently lashed out money on a new, far more powerful laptop to assist with video editing and, with the help of our fantastic Patreon & Ko-fi supporters, another radio mic to improve the audio. If you would like to support our video productions you can do it for less than price of a coffee per episode. The funds help us pay for upload data, music and editing software subscriptions and to buy better camera and audio equipment to improve the quality of our shows. Hi @Dreamtimesail, i love your series on boat tours. Would you be able to complete it by doing a vid on your running rigging? I'm very curious to see how you have your mainsheet system set up for running with your hardtop dodger and canvas enclosure. TYVM and fair winds

      Glad you enjoyed the two videos. We hadn't really thought about more detail on the running rigging but we have a couple of changes planned soon so might do a segment when they're done. Stay tuned. Cheers R & K

    Great vid on SV Dreamtime.
    Can I suggest seeing an ophthalmologist and looking into having cataract surgery to get new lens implants so you can throw away your glasses . I did 3 years ago as glasses were my bug bear with sailing and diving along with working while sweating …
    Life changing and worth doing .

      Thanks very much Tony. Karen has looked into surgery but was advised it's not suitable for her. I've actually been thinking about it lately so might have to get of my backside and find out if it would work for me. Cheers Rob.

      @@Dreamtimesail I have been dreaming of doing exactly what your doing - since I was a pre teen - closer to 60 than 50 now and dreaming about a Whitby for the last several years. You have made her a lovely boat and should be proud! Glad your health is back and look forward to your next video

      @@sailingsomeday5975 the Whitbys are good, solid boats. We were fortunate to find a well cared for example and have enjoyed making further improvements. It's nice to have a boat worth spending the time and money on. We started cruising when I was 55 so there's still time to turn your dream into reality. Best of luck. We hope you can make it happen.

    Interested in the wind generator on the mizzen. We have a Rival 38 centre cockpit. Have wondered about doing the same but am concerned about how much noise gets transmitted down the mast to the aft cabin.
    Our mizzen mast foot is just above the head of the berth (no compression post).

    • @Dreamtimesail
      @Dreamtimesail  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ours is OK. Ours is a Rutland 1200 which is comparatively very quiet compared to most wind gens. We did put neoprene blocks between the mounting pole and the mast but still do get a hum down into the stern cabin in stronger winds but not enough to worry us. I think it could be a problem in some boats but there's probably only one way to find out. Sorry I couldn't be more definitive. Cheers!

    • @SustainableSailing
      @SustainableSailing ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Dreamtimesail yup we would be looking at a Rutland 1200. But first we need to fit our solar panels and for that we have to finish the re-rigging of the mizzen with dyneema. #BigRefit

    I just place an offer on a whitby 42. I have many things I will like to do to it but before that I will go sailing . I will like to add a watermaker but you said you stor yours in the laseret . Is that the portable. I am planning to add AC and was thinking on also using an honda small gen. so you have bring some light to my mods. chuck peterson

      Chuck our boat came with a "Little Wonder@ watermaker that was fitted in the engine room with its output plumbed to the galley but it is very low capacity so we know have a portable Rainman watermaker that produces 140 litres an hour. We power it with a Honda 2.2 generator. Good luck with your Whitby. They are fantastic boats. Cheers!

    I’m curious about what type/brand/model of high pressure washer you keep in the cockpit lazarette. Also the specs on your Honda generator.
    Great tour.
    Suggestions for future content:
    1. Would love to see a bit deeper dive into your solar/electrical system.
    2. Would also be interested in an episode about the mundane day to day maintenance tasks- maybe even your entire maintenance schedule/routine.

    • @Dreamtimesail
      @Dreamtimesail  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Chris, We have a small Karcher pressure washer on board and a Honda 2.2i generator to power our Rainman watermaker. Thanks for the suggestions. We don't do a lot of technical videos as we always feel there are people far more qualified than us to do them, particularly when it comes to electricity. The maintenance one is something we'll certainly have a look at in the coming season. Thanks so much for the feedback. We really appreciate it. Hope you enjoyed Part 2 as well. Cheers!
