Another great video. Here in Ontario, Canada we really don’t have the facilities we see in your videos. Where about are your videos taken, because next trip I will have to check them out.

Hi John 😊 thank you as always 🙏🏼
The majority of my videos are shot in my local area Poole/Bournemouth, south coast UK
The obstacle courses are in various places and we will actually be doing a Tough Mudder in Toronto later this year 😎🇨🇦

I just looked it up, mid September and you are about one hour west of me in Milton, Ontario. Is this a team event for you?

Yes we have a small team running this time!
Non competitive we’re just doing it for fun 😁💪🏼

I feel like most people avoid the monkey bars because basically it hurts your hands if you're not used to it
any tip you want to add other than keep at it?

      Hi Logan
Yeah that’s it really, the more you do it the more your hands will condition to it! Plus different bars and different techniques can make a difference. I find any particularly thin bars hurt the hands more. Smooth metal bars are kinder to the hands but often harder to grip. Painted bars can also become “sticky” especially in the heat and I find that can make the hands more sore quicker.
I would also say the beginners techniques versus the full swing would be the techniques where the hands could remain pain free for the longest!

I tried monkey bars properly for the first time today (25 miles round trip!) and I confirm that it's quite a workout!
Even momentary single arm hangs make for more difficulty.
But if I can find any locally, I'll certainly add them to my training as I'm sure they'll make me stronger.

We get the results we deserve!
It was worth trying and now, I'll look out for them when opportunity allows.
I may even lobby the local council again to install some.

there's monkey bars as part of the apparatus right next to the bar in the nearby park where I train pull-ups and that kind of thing, and ignoring them is exactly what I've been doing..but of course I loved going on them as a kid, kids are naturally drawn to 'em b/c they're fun, and a workout that's fun already has a lot going for it. Ah, I realise why I've avoided them: I usually train calisthenics with strict form, so my instinct is to avoid anything that naturally uses momentum/swing for the movement as 'bad'

    • @rikkinetic
      @rikkinetic  ปีที่แล้ว

That’s an understandable assessment and I can see why you would naturally think that!
I like to see the monkey bars more as “play” and with any play or sport even, strict form may be compromised at times but where’s the fun in being strict all the time 😁 sometimes it’s good to channel your inner child and allow yourself to play 🐒
