What can cause vc leads being seperated from where they attach to coil that is not visible at the (former?)
I have several high end or hard to find subwoofers that have damage like this. The voice coils are flawless, shiny no damage, but the leads that are integrated in the suspension spider are ripped away inside and the terminals make no connection outside?? Also a majority the spider has failed, lifted, or if there is a clamping ring securing the spider it has seperated.
Extreme over power in a high tuned big port area box and overexcursion causing the ripped away type damage? Ive never had this happen to me personally but have collected many rebuildable woofers with this type failure. How do i fix this with reusing the original coil and making new lead wires up to the spider connection? Thanks for any info. Id like to replace the spiders with nice new units and reuse the coils that look new just have no connection leads. Also none have heat damage noticeable from shorting or high power or extreme clipping causing the damage to the wire, its just ripped away, the leads thru the spider are still like new with casing all the way to the speaker terminals on the baskets so its not from melting

    • @RandomAudioGuys
      @RandomAudioGuys  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Over excursion can pull the copper in two. At least if I'm understanding your question correction, Had this issue one some JLW0 when it first came out. Subs looked perfect all the way through the tear down, ended up being broken in two under the glue that holds the cone to the voice coil former.

Skar will go out of business eventually or become the next Boss brand at the direction the owner is taking the company. We had alot of shipments bad out of the box and they wouldnt stand behind it. Broken frames from China and after they realized they had a major issue they started putting insurance on them and trying to blame the US shipping companies for the problem. Guy is a real crook.

@@RandomAudioGuys not sure if my last message went through so, it’s a home built voicecoil, it did not need very much in terms of shimming. Once everything settled it ended up turning out that the aluminum former I used rubs slightly against the center piece in the motor that the voicecoil goes over. You can hear it every single time you actuate the sub by hand although it does not appear to increase the force needed to actuate the woofer up or down. Say the woofer were to be raised by hand it will settle back down in place just fine without any pauses and if memory serves besides the slight noise from the homemade voicecoil rubbing it appears to actuate exactly like it did before. Although I will say the original voice coil did not come apart before when this woofer and it’s sister woofer stopped working. It had some very peculiar symptoms when compared to its sister woofer whose voice coil imploded. This subs voice coil was burnt but did not come apart by any means and still actuated. I sent you the symptoms in more detail over instagram DM’s

There are a few reasons this could be happening. So if it were something like that and the pole piece has not slipped then by all means it could be fixed, A subwoofer is dumb, It just moves in and our so not much to be wrong if its not an alignment issue or glue failure so it may be your fix.

I just discovered your Channel, and I'm looking forward to getting home tonight to watch more. I've got two JBL 18s and a 18 sound 18 that I had reconed but the voice coil became dislodged instantly by sending way too much power to them unintentionally. The cone spider and everything is good. So much Excursion online The Voice coil. I'm hoping to find a way to replace just that.

Ive watched several recone videos and I see different opinions or methods when comes to adhesives, I've seen to use rubberized glue on parts to frame and CA glue to and coil joints, It looks like you use the same rubberized glue on the entire build. I'm assuming that's what DD specifies. I've also seen people use regular hardware store locktight brand 2 part epoxy on coil joints. I was going to recone my NVX VCW15 the drop in was $80 but I couldn't get through to them (covid issue I think) , PSI quoted $150 but it was upgraded parts they claimed an increase from the factory 1000w rating to 1300/1500w, the down side with psi was if I was to get a 2nd sub I couldn't without buying one and instantly reconeing it with psi and we'll that would be end up $350+! No thanks. I ended up buying 2 AB XR15s and I bought parts from Lord of base to convert that nvx to a stout 10", I didn't know of them when I originally wanted to fix the NVX. NVX killer sub with great soft parts tough coil BUT half assed glue job had 2 that detached the triple joints but coils were immaculate, so if someone could find a blown one cheap buy a drop in recone and glue it proper and you would have a great sub on the cheap.

Dd offers a rubberized glue for when we do the bigger dustcaps but other than that I'm able to use dd ca glue through oit the entire process and no failures so I stick to what works for me.
I tired a rubberized fix in a jlw7 once and it didnt last a few days so I switched it to dd adhesive and it's still banging a few months later.

Hey I am glad you ask. Im fine thanks. I have a issue with winter and its always been that way and I stepped back from the channel to focus on what worked and what didnt. I am focusing on better quality videos and videos made specifically for the channel rather than trying to shoot work I do for consumers. The fiberglass box did very well that I posted and it was one I made for the channel.
Don't be surprised if you wake up over the next month or 2 and see new videos. Time change and the weather is breaking so I get out alot more and thats when Ill be doing the new videos. You should also see a huge video quality difference.
Again thanks for the check on me and stick with us, youll see the format will be much better and even more detailed.

What you're doing is the equivalent of replacing an engine that only has a bad sensor, like a voice coil, instead of replacing what's damaged.

Am I hearing you right? Just replace the burnt voicecoil and save the other parts?

You didnt see us having to dig out the voice coil.

Is it possible to rebuild an eclipse audio subwoofer.
I have an aluminum eclipse that was originally a 4 ohm dvc and was rebuilt to a svc but cant find any recone kits for it.
The sub is sentimental to me and is a really good sub but idk if its a lost cause...
Any info would be great, thanks and awesome video!
