- Hot off the Heels of my Speedrunning Death in every zelda game (as link), here's a video of me ranking every link death animation I could find.
Shout out to MasterofHyrule and BeardBear for making this list possible.
Sorry this video took so long to edit! I went a little overboard with the referential humor (if you can name all of them we should be friends)

It's come to my attention that I missed a few death animations in this video, so allow me to rectify that blunder:
*43.5* - TP Box Glitch Death. I saw this in a video and thought it was incredibly funny, hence why I'm adding it. Otherwise it's an honorable mention.
*39.5* - TP Horse Death - The slump forward is kinda silly, but if he's dead, why is he still holding his sword?!?! By all accounts he should've dropped it after slumping.
*36.5*- TP Void Fall. It's pretty *DARK* how he just falls into nothingness and screams without being teleported back to the cliff. And yet I don't find it very impressive.
*18.5* - TP Quicksand Death. A lot like the BotW/TotK drowning but the way his eyes slowly close when sinking makes it really interesting. Still very Terminator
*16.5* - TP Quicksand Dog Death. Similar to dog drowning, but the way the animation slows to a stop with the paw out is really sad and heartbreaking.
*10.5* - BotW Link Dying Memory. His expression is giving "Eyes going blurry" to "blacked out". The cinematic nature of it being a prerendered cutscene makes it more dramatic.
*9.5* - TP Lava Death. Basically the Quicksand/BotW drowning death, but that SCREAM is so painful to hear that it boosts this death substantially.
Hope this helps!
I like how in BotW and TotK that when uou die, the color of the Game Over is changed to reflect how you died. Like blue because you drown, yellow from being shocked to death. Interesting.
Yeah, and some people might not notice at first, but if you die to heat damage the words Game Over are written in a lighter, more orange-y red. Like, fire red? I don't know if that's accurate, but there's that and also ice blue for dying to cold damage, including dying in ice-cold water. Is there an additional color in Tears of the Kingdom for dying to Gloom Damage?
@devonm042690 dying from fire and ice damage have a glowy frosty like effect to the letters when you die. I die a lot. I used to get blown up at least 6 times a day when guardians were involved. I now have PTSD to their music. 😂
@@devonm042690 is there?? what colour is the gloom death??
My favourite death animation is rolling down all of death mountain at top speed in botw/totk 💀
THATS SO REAL
Four swords adventures hitting us with that human centipede death when they all fall down.
Bro how did link in wind waker know how to swim with even living in a water world but in phantom hourglass he can’t even touch it 😭
The water in the realm of the ocean king must be less dense than in flooded Hyrule. Thus no matter how hard he tries, Link can't tread water.
This stupid thing was the best canon explanation I could think up. So take it or leave it. Probably just a game design choice and or hardware limitation.
Because the water in the Bellum-controlled World of the Ocean King is all Bellum-juice. It sucks the life from you. I 'unno.
Just remember, almost every single death would’ve resulted in the end of the world
I love silly ranking videos like this, and the editing is just so good omg
7:51 "why are you drowning the dog?! Midna Help him!!" 😂😂This shouldn't have made me laugh but it did. Such an honest relatable reaction.
I might cut back a bit with the heavy editing in future videos considering this one took 2 months to make. But I wanted to make this one special.
It was so worth it, the editing was incredible. Made me subscribe. Do what's best for you though, your spoken humor sold me too!
@@yeahbutthendragons152 I'd still keep most edits, just once per 4/5 seconds instead of every 1 second. But really it depends on the type of video I'm making.
Can we give points for lore behind the deaths? Because Zelda 2's is possibly the most brutal. The game over screen shows Ganon because, in story when you die, his followers have killed Link, and *sprinkled his blood over Ganon's ashes,* resurrecting him.
Also, no Twilight Princess lava death? That one's pretty brutal too, especially Link's agonized scream as he burns alive while slowly sinking.
Honestly, Twilight Princess has the most brutal void out deaths in general. Even the basic void out where you jump off a cliff, if the void out damage is fatal, you just hear him scream and then silence, then it cuts to the Game Over screen with the music.
As for Zelda 2's death lore, yeah it's fine if an enemy kills him, but how is his blood used to revive Ganon if he dies by falling into a pit or into lava, or even if he's killed by Shadow Link?
The Twilight Princess lava scream is pretty brutal for sure. Also, Skyward Sword Link when you sink in quicksand. SS Link has some shockingly intense vocaliszations for pain and death, (like when you get shocked while simultaneously being knocked over and start gasping violently in pain) which I completely overlooked because all I could remember was his goofy lava and fall reactions lol
Did anyone else feel sad when they watched this?
The drowning animations really got me.
I love the way link dies in twilight princess, and my favourite drowning is in wind waker.
Ok but the train going up in flames is still impactful, I still feel very dead, and I can barely see link in the flames anyway....
Ok yeah they probably should've animated him collapsing from the smoke or something
@@Bandikit at least with the gold train you can't see him.
“Dying in the game should not give me the risk of dying in real life due to dying of epileptic shock” CRYING of laughter but fr this is real asf! I went to a retro arcade a bit ago & literally couldn’t play some of the games cuz the flashing lights gave me a headache. I’m not even epileptic (to my knowledge lmao). Even the hecking pinball machines gave me a headache. I do not miss those aspects of retro games one bit lmao.
my personal favorites have to be the TP and the ocarina of time (N64). TP is mainly because Ive played through the game several times, so the game is just a favorite for me, and the STRUGGLE he has to try and stay up before collapsing. The ocarina of time one is mainly because it just feels like he's dying brutally. No struggle, just pure DEATH. And the weight of him hitting the ground is a nice touch too.
Exactly!!
You did a Phantasy Star Online sound effect during your intro, used Enter the Florpus footage, and referenced the Powerpuff Girls in your third entry. I cannot help but follow your uploads now.
18:48 The Monster at the End of this Book has been mentioned. Childhood favorite. 10,000,000/10 video
Also, I agree with a lot of these. I'd personally give some extra points to the Phantom Hourglass deaths just because of the exaggerated game over music, but that can definitely be ignored
Just found you today, keep it up man. Loving the content
HELP THIS ENTIRE TIME YOU'RE JUST CRITIQUING LINKS DEATH WITH A BLANK ASS VOICE ITS SENDING ME OMG
Okay, but the MUSIC in TP, that's what give me chills and make me say "Oh shet, he's dying and this would be the end of this legend"
What about tp link drowning in lava that one hits
@@thomasmoore8854 I admit I didn't realize that was one. I assumed it was like most others where he teleports to the cliff he fell from and plays the normal death animation. Sorry
"Midna help him"
Midna "Sorry Im a cat person. Also tech he's a wolf not a dog"
@@davidfitzpatrick6535 All dogo creatures are puppies.
@@Andyblarg Agreed. Sorry i was replying as uf midna heard u. with her sarcastic personality sje would absolutely reply that way.
3:11 always loved this death animation with the accompanying jingle from the NES version
And not the Famicom Disk System version
and the fact that it poofs all way give me that he is a Being like all the other enemies we fought
Cool Video!
YOU ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO BE DEAD. YOURE SUPPOSED TO BE DEFEATED!!
Anyone ever seen the special death animation for when the carriage burns in TP? I think it’s interesting as I don’t think typically your escorts die in Zelda games ever, but it happens here.
On that note: The Imprisoned escaping the pit. The one thing that still haunts my sleep to this day.
also when he gets sucked into the floor in the echos of wisdom trailer
This killed me duh, instant sub 🫡
13:08 it's giving exams
Rank all link running animations
@@trooper7842
Last Place: Cadance of Hyrule. He jumps instead of running
First Place: Skyward Sword. Good form
yuri in thumbnail, 5 stars 10/10 positive steam review etc
@@ikedaren_29336 clearly better than Natsuki
Nice video
also hot take: i like zelda 2 death animation
I forgot about The Power Puff Girls one!
i never thought of the undertale thing💀
Quick question, what's the game/whatever it is at 1:21 (I havent seen it before and i would like to know what it is)
Ocarina of Time
@@AndyblargHmm, it must be a very obscure media version then because I don't remember ever seeing OoT being like a flash game
OOT but in Powerpuff Girls
Really added the animated show but not the BOTW cutscene. Like, I know he's not confirmed dead since the sword is like "there's still time homie", but they needed a shrine of RESURRECTION not of BEAUTY SLEEP. I feel like the cartoon's rules apply here. Also, he wasn't even notably breathing like some of these "deaths" were.
