just buy a radiomaster tx16s for $200 and you will never have to upgrade. you get all the spectrum featurs plus way more with edge tx.

@@Mach3RC Old people in the hobby who dont know about new tech still pushing outdated legacy stuff on newbies. They use Spektrum / Futaba / FrSKY so that's what they recommend.

@Mach3RC cause people think, the more it costs the better it is. Like when people buy a dx6 and then later on say man know I need more channels so they have to get a dx9 and then it goes on and on needing more channels .I have a Radiomaster tx16s with 32chs, probably never use them all but it's there in one transmitter. Can bind to spektrum, can do forward programming. It can do stuff that Spekjunk can't do.

@@Mach3RC They're super popular in fpv, the difference in performance between an edgetx radio with elrs and spektrum makes spektrum a non choice for me or anyone else in fpv. The radio link requirements tend to be a lot more demanding when flying 2 ft off the ground on the opposite side of an abandoned building or 5 miles up the side of a mountain. Also edgetx/opentx might be harder for some to learn but, I found it wasn't too bad and there's tons of info online including presets mixes for whatever you need and the way you setup those mixes is much more powerful than spektrum. Also for what it's worth my tx16 feels much sturdier than my old dx6 but, I prefer a smaller form factor since I'm a thumber and my favorite radio is the cheapest one I own a jumper t-lite with a couple mods lol.

@@thirtythreeeyes8624 Yep. All us fellahs in our Old Farts Flying Group have a Radiomaster TX16S and they are a brilliant radio. But, for most of the flying that I do these days, I also just use the little Jumper T-lite. It is just as powerful a tool as the big radio (32 channels, over 100 protocols covered - including Spektrum - and costs under $70US) but weighs nothing and goes in your pocket.
This American obsession with their WAY overpriced Spektrum gear will soon end up like their auto industry where Detroit dug in with chrome tanks and Toyota et al started wiping the floor with them.

I have the Spektrum iX14. I love that radio. But If I had known about the RadioMaster TX16S Mkll MAX Pro Multi-Protocol at the time I would have saved my money and bought that. It can bind to Spektrum, Futaba, XK, FHSS, and pretty much any 2.4ghz system protocol. I saw that the Flite Test Crew uses it. Joshua Bardwell uses it. If those guys trust it I can too. So i ended up buying the Lumenier Edition. It is bada*s. The Gimbals are incredible. The software is amazing. It's not as good as my iX14 IMO but it is worth the money saving IMO. I love that my Ix14 can configure every plane for me. And now with the Ai, it's insane. Perfect for a lazy person. Plus I can play a flight simulator on it and watch TH-cam videos. lol. Radios are getting super expensive though., The NX10 is a great choice.

I'm one of those people that also believes in the 'Buy Once, Cry Once' philosophy. I'm a scale helicopter pilot. I didn't start off trying to fly scale models but that's what my ultimate goal was. With that in mind, I started off with a Spektrum iX12 as my first radio back in 2018.
That radio got stolen in 2020. Ended up purchasing a Spektrum iX20 as a replacement since it was the newest release at that time and supposed to be a far superior user experience over the iX12 in terms of functionality, and it certainly is. With THAT said, my time with the iX20 over the past 4 years has been a wonderful experience and I have no need or desire to even consider purchasing another radio.

ELRS protocol is the way to go tbh. It’s frustrating at first to set up the open source radios with EdgeTx (formerly OpenTx OS) but it’s so worth it. Near impossible to failsafe. Your confidence will increase *when* you get it figured out. There’s a huge community support. Plus it’s open source so you can do other cool things with your radio :))

Great content as usual! I went with the first gen tx16s with the 4-1 when i got in the hobby. Was like 150 cad at the time, and then added a elrs module, never going back to closed source. The price difference kills it for me, but its 100% the easier solution. As most things you trade savings for complexity

I like the Spektrum stuff (I have a DXE and a DX8E) but, I also have a couple of Taranis radios. I am very comfortable with the complexity of what OpenTX brought to the table.. I really like the computer element where I can simulate the radio on the computer and then just sync the computer over to the radio. In the price range for the Spektrum DX10 I would almost certainly give careful consideration to the FrSky X20 series of radios. I have heard good things about their ETHOS plus their 900 MHz / 2.4 GHz dual band redundancy..

I bought my first RC system in 1968, a Micro Avionics 5 ch digital proportional radio that cost me $200 used. (More than a month of part time pay)It still works fine. You get more bang for the buck now, i have a TX16s which took a bit to get AS3X / SAFE to function but it works fine. They are more complicated, they cost more than they should but everything does. You have to balance out flying vs setup, i would much rather fly than spend too much time with setting up computer radios.

I started with a DX6 and after a few years went to a DX9. Ended up damaging the DX9 while searching for a lost plane in a very wet forest. Got the NX10 and I'm delighted with it: it actually seems to work a little better than the DX9 (better gimbals?). Moving all 40 planes from the 9 was a piece of cake. I like having the 10 channels and don't see where I'll need anymore given my aircraft selection and style of flying (mostly scale stuff). Good Vid

Does so much more fire so much less. I picked up a spektrum DX6 off marketplace, meet up with the guy selling it and before i tried to power it on i pull the battery cover off snd see 4 leaking AA batteries and corroded terminals. Put some fresh AA's in and right to to Raw input mode. If you let the batteries die on the DX6 it bricks the main board and its kind of a pain to fix. I told dude he wrecked the radio by leaving the batteries in and im not interested. As I'm walking away his price went from $160 to $10 so I took it stopped at a friend's house that owns a DX20 pluged the trainer cord in, power cycled it a few times and thats how i got a mint DX6 for $10.

6 channels fine to start with but an 8 channel leaves a couple of more options and more than enough for the average Sunday flier unless you are going all out scale. What do most planes have, no more than the 4 basic functions plus flaps and gear, maybe lights but they are a sales gimmick anyway therefore 8 should be more than enough.

You're right on, most rc equipment is greatly over-priced and at the rate it's being retired and replaced with new technology, it's extremely difficult to justify paying a lot for any part of this hobby because next month/year it will be fairly obsolete. The good news is that modern day equipment is nearly flaw-proof compared to the equipment I grew up with in the 1960's/70's. Just saying!

I love all the sensor Frsky offer and the constent firmware development as Edgetx but more organize. But I choose RM for newbe and once you master get a Frsky radio. Spektrum is another Apple. A money rip off. You buy a radio from Spektrum then you grow out of it then you have to upgrade. Edgetx and Ethos are all same version on all radio that support it. Edgetx is a faster development and Edgetx is in many brand and model radio it's the future. Elrs protocol is the same it's growing and getting better. Spektrum IS MONEY RIP OFF!!!
