The shot of those wild horses was amazing. To me they represent so much of what life in the West is all about. Happy Mothers Day, and may you continue to enjoy the freedom and wildness so many of us search for.

Have coffee in the morning, watch the atmosphere from your video, love it, thank you☕ TH
The hexagonal shaped rock pillars are very similar to the ones at the Giant’s Causeway in Northern Ireland.
What a great group of people. And Michael and his wife are the reason I joined Overland Bound. They seem like exceptionally down to earth folks. Great video, fam! Happy Mother's Day.
Thank you. Yes they are wonderful 👍🏻
What a way to wake up in the morning

After seeing your videos my mind become so relaxed and you are showing a path to my future that what can i do with my small fragile life guy's.love you guys.
The pillars look just like the giant’s causeway in Ireland, absolutely beautiful.
I'm from Belfast. My thoughts exactly. I didn't know Finn McCool made it all the way to Utah☘️😂😂
I've been watching you guys for a long time. This has to be my favorite episode, so far.
The cinematography of your videos is stunning. I appreciate the effort you all put in to both capturing the scenery and adventure but also the editing. Well done and much appreciated!
Absolutely beyond beautiful, and it’s just up the road from our home in Southern Arizona. In our mid 60’s my wife and I may never get to a lot of the locations you’ve seen but we do enjoy being “taken along”…

Those hexagonal columns are basalt columns, and are formed due to how they cool which is rapid compared to the surrounding rocks and surface area causing them to cool in the shape you see before you 14:08. Awesome videos guys!🤙
Indeed, you got it. Those are basalt intrusions, which are pretty well documented on the North Rim, where mafic magma broke through the sedimentary rock layers, and deposited like a lava lake or lave stream. The columnar thing is usually associated with slower cooling, as it typically appears when the basalt is buried, as surface, fast cooling basalt looks like the Hawaiian volcano deposits, and lack the column structure. It's sort of like a goldilocks scenario, where if the lava/magma is deep enough (and thus cools slowly enough) h, it also does not show columns, but as a gabbro shows all the crystallized minerals in large aphenetic chunks, while the fast cooling surface lava has no large crystal chunks as it cools faster than large crystals can form. The columns show the same lack of mineral crystals, but still had to cool slower than the surface exposed lava, as that column structure thing only happens when the temp is 'just right'.
We see a lot of that basalt column thing, from the Grand Canyon, to the Grand Coulee and Columbia River Basalt columns in WA and Oregon, to the Giant's Causeway in Ireland and the UK. It's all over the world, and it seems to have all been created in very similar circumstances. Lava erupts, deposits as a thick layer, something else buries it quickly and it eventually portions cools into those columns. Then, the surface material is eroded away until you can see the columns we see now. Interesting stuff.
@@evilcam hey thanks for the examination!🤙 been a minute since I took Geology in college 😂
Thanks for the info!! Such beautiful structures!
@@evilcam It looks very much like Devil's Postpile in the Mammoth Lakes area.

Hello from snowy Alberta on MOTHER'S DAY! We love our wild horses here, too. Stay safe, all. 👍😉⚘
Hello from Seoul Korea
It was a pleasure meeting you guys and talking to you. Such a wonderful family. Hope to see you guys on the road again someday. -
Oh my gosh you guys❣️The Narrative, music and photography all pulled together in this epic family road trip, was absolutely amazing❣️
The hexagons are basalt. If you drove north on highway 97 to Prince George, between Quesnel and PG on the right side of the highway there's basalt columns there too!
Cool, next time we’re up there we’ll definitely check it out. Thanks for the tip.
14:00. Check out the 'Giants Causeway' in the North East coast of Northern Ireland. Very similar rock formation. My guess is it is solidification/cooling of 'Basalt'. We see much of this also in the North UK (in Northern England and Scotland), where there is deposits/outcrops of basalt. Great vlog.
The Canyon, the horses, the views…great episode guys!
Love from India🇮🇳
Hi
From Malaysia....Kuala Lumpur.
Enjoy yourselves
How do you guys find all this awesome trails???
Thank you!
This video brought back memories. I went there last November with E3 Overland. We had over 50 vehicles and stayed at the Bar 10 Ranch. We drove down to the Whitmore Overlook. Some even camped where you were.
Love it! Such a. beautiful spot!

Hey Guys we love going there, you would have passed the bar 10 Ranch going to that point which we have stayed at that ranch before, awesome place.. We have been to the 4 other overlooks and they are all breath taking. I believe there are a total of 6 that we know of. Hope you guys are doing well and as always Safe Travels to you guys!!! Hope to you all soon. Erick and Beverly
Beautiful video. It's fun seeing your gear evolve. Nice running Carol!
Thanks 🏃♀️ Have a wonderful Sunday!
OMG is so beautiful 🤩 👍
Happy Mother’s Day, Carole!
Thank you. Same to you! ❤️
♥️ from india 🇮🇳
Greetings to you in India 🇮🇳
Such a great family. Do think you should have had just one more child! About 10 yrs younger than your youngest. You enjoy being parents so much…..you could stretch it out longer.
My brother is 16 yrs younger than me, and I have one tag-along cousin who is also 16 yrs younger. ❤
Pretty cool getting to tour with OB0000.
It was great seeing the bottom of the canyon in your video as I grew up on that river Being a river running down there for about 25 years. that helicopter was taking people in and out from the river trip there’s a ranch that’s on top of the canyon. Also there is a ton of volcanoes that formed certain rapids like lava falls down the canyon if you ever get a chance do a raft trip down the river one of the best vacations you will have. Ok 👌🏼🔥🤠🔥Camping Russ out
That is a cooling feature of lava, called "columnar jointing". As lava cools it contracts and cracks start to form. As the lava cools from the top down, the cracks extend downward through the lava flow.
Very very nice family nice experience
That's camp spot looks amazing. I'm heading to the Grand Canyon for one last adventure before the Army moves us to New Jersey in June.
Beautiful Scenery!
That cliff of columns is like a reverse of Devil's Postpile in CA. I remember learning as a kid visiting there that when lava cools and condenses, the angles of a hexagonal shape end up being the most efficient way to separate and relieve stress... probably similar to dry lake beds?
Looks like black Kryptonite. I used to study metallurgical phase diagrams and how you can make certain crystals by freezing alloy at certain temperature.
very epic views of the canyon
The horses were amazing, but I love how all of the overlanders I follow always say, "But first, COFFEE."
Amazing video guyz love u. God bless u.
Wow love the horses!
Wow this video was stunning! Are the kids flexing their new skills they learned with XO?
Always great videos ! 👍 👍
The columns form from hot lava that suddenly cools in a very specific manner. Usually they run up against a massive "cool" wall of some other material or they form under/in water. They are often hexagonal because that's essentially how those columns "crack", but other shapes are possible. If you've been to Devils Postpile near Mammoth, CA, that's one of the more impressive opportunities to view these kind of formations close up (you can see them from below and you can hike up on them). Cool stuff. Probably boring for a geologist but quite stunning to the rest of us.
Awesome, thanks for the info. Have a wonderful day.
nature is always amazing! Thanks all.
Amazing nature of Colorado River and desert! Awesome! Thanks for sharing video! I wonder if two wheel drive can get there. Probably not I suppose. Keep going!
We were on the south rim in April. Can’t wait to get to the north rim this summer. Great video.
The rocks you were looking at in the Canyon are, Basaltic Columnar Lava. They form in lava flows of Basalt. You will see them in several places around the Western USA.
look up Giants Causeway in Ireland. Got to see it in person and its amazing!
Ok burying Lando was excellent!😜🤘
Hi there from Turkey. Another great episode as usual and I have to say, you guys are such an inspiration to me. Epic family, epic lifestyle... Even though I'm so far away to live similar life like you are currently living, I know one day I will make it happen. Happy mothers day.
Beautiful!! Thanks
Devils tower Wyoming looks like the rock formations you saw.
I can't believe you guys buried the dog! hahaha...
Spectacular video!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
