    I have the first generation CBR 900RR in white blue and red and I always considered the FZR 1000 to be such an awesome bike. I actually think the FZR 1000 was more of an undisputed king at its time than the CBR900RR was at its time. Yamaha defined what the king of the streets should be like. Such a beautiful bike.

    • @ajc5370

    • @victorlombardi1149
      @victorlombardi1149 ปีที่แล้ว

      .... In the eighties the King was the Suzuki GSX-R 1100 (1986), it was better than FZR 1000 (1987), better frame.
      In 1989 the new FZR 1000 was better than the 2ng gen 1989 GSX-R 1100, but was not better than the old one from 1986 ; the frame was on par, FZR had a little more power, problem promptly resolved by the better tuning capabilities of the Suzuki engine.
      The result : I still preferred the GSX-R and the mine was much faster than any FZR 1000.

  • @candycabngfl
    @candycabngfl 10 ปีที่แล้ว +51

    Having been a long time GSX-R rider from that era I think much like every other bike of the period they have to be pushed hard and ridden very aggressively to get the best out of them and this guy has no clue, my mom could drag that thing around faster than this guy. Looked like he was almost afraid of it to me.

    • @kutchlickers1061
      @kutchlickers1061 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      candycabngfl where you can really see it is in the tip ins and transitions. You have to really push the bars hard, squeeze the brakes hard. They’re easier to slide out of a corner too, you should feel the back tire sliding sometimes on the exits if you’re running it as hard as you can.

      I had the FZR750RR put the 1990 motor in it, what a machine. It had more than enough power, just that compared today's brakes is it let down.

      I could not agree more with you I own two of these bikes one 1989 and one 1990! They still shred on the road against new bikes! My clutch never falters I never have such a terrible launch like that. I could also tell by the Rev that he had much more in every gear. One has 15,000 miles and one has 45,000 miles. Both motors still bulletproof!

    I had a 1987 FZR1000 in 1995. The only bike that ever gave me trouble in straight line drag racing on lonely but smooth state highway 71 was the CBR900RR. I could out accelerate anything but that bike but not because it was more powerful. The 900 would “stick” to the pavement and go go go while my bike would want to wheelie causing me to back off slightly. Normally me backing off wouldn’t matter because I’d still beat other bikes of the era. But the 900RR had great suspension in my opinion. Note I never raced a ZX11.

      Theres some awesome race footage of Aussie legends Micheal Dowson and Kevin Magee racing 87 FZR1000s in the Swan insurance race series in Australia in 87, and just blowing everyone into the weeds. On a bog stock production bike Dowson is easily beating hordes of race kitted GSX-R750s. And riding tuned ones in Formula 1 they are up against a couple of very very expensive NR750s (the oval piston 32 valve 8 conrod) Formula 1 bikes that HRC brought to Australia to race, one of the few times they raced outside Japan. The FZRs beat them too. :-)
      th-cam.com/video/_1RBa3_ALyc/w-d-xo.html heres that race.
      Heres the production race with the 87 FZR1000 leaving the GSX-R Suzukis behind th-cam.com/video/mMJa_vWDil4/w-d-xo.html

    the rusty banjos on the brake lines are a good indication of the condition that bike is actually in. it's probable that if the suspension was freshened up a bit it might have performed better and less "divey".

    I bought one brand new in 89. Had some basic performance parts and tuning done.
    No ride colored spectacles here...that bike was a GOD, So So fast. Groundbreaker! Think about it for a second.
    1st bike to use 5.5" rim & radial tires.
    1st bike to use the EXUP system ( it worked! Not even open for debate).
    5 valve head, same thing..worked fantastic bike had deep breathing.
    In 1989 this bike did verified 170 mph and I squeezed a 10:20 1/4 mile outta mine at Carlsbad dragstrip.
    Few if any sportbikes from the next 5 years..could match the acceleration/ power. People can say what they want..The 900RR handled far better..but was NOT faster..it wasn't even close. That Big Ol Girl...could get up & get her move on !

    I've got one of those bikes Billet clutch basket, Wiseco 1070 piston kit, Vance & Hines power pack, Accel super coils, Yoshimura pipe stage 3 jet kit ,port and Polished head and puts well over 150 horsepower she might be old and dated but she'll hang right with anything that's out there honest I really wouldn't want a new bike anyway kind of like that new ZX-14 but I just look at the price of these new leader bikes I can just keep dumping money in my old girl and she'll just keep getting better and better I just picked up some 38 mm can flat slides off an 88 fzr 1000 yeah they're the same size as my carbs but they're flat slides race carbs they even said stamped on them race only. Also want to install a set of undercut 6-speed gears off a YZF 750 in it. Maybe have the stock cams sent out to be played with I don't think the 900RR was was that far ahead of the fzr 1000 when it came out horsepower to horsepower the fzr had more the same yarn just had a little better power to weight ratio but if you put a modded fzr against the stock 900 RR it was right there

The blue spots on the R1 are slightly different to the Thunderace ones, theres enough changes to warrant completely different part numbers, the mounting holes are the same distance apart so either one can be retro fit to early FZRs.

My 750 does and I fancy my chances against you on this track. The only thing I've seen this guy thrash is the engine and probably crosses the finish on cold tyres. Interesting films though.

    I hate when older bikes and cars are run like this and you know they weren't sorted prior. If you're going to "test" an older bike or car give it a going over and proper maintence. I'm willing to bet if this bike were sorted properly it would shit on a B-King around a racetrack.

    Had an R1 and FZR 1000 at the same time. I really liked the FZR, it was a 93 model that I bought at a bargain. Mine never smoked, never leaked, I had it for a few years and it was a joy to ride huge torque down low and its still fast but on the really tight corners you have to work harder! People forget that the FZR was a 10 to mid 10 second motorcycle on the quarter mile. Putting it to the test on a race track seems pointless. When I used my FZR on the road here in NZ back in 2006 me and my 5 riding buddies would go on long rides which had long straights and super twisty corners. The FZR was always in 2nd place on the straight behind a green 04 ZX10r and behind me was a yamaha R6, he could not quite catch me on the straights because my out right acceleration at the beginning of a straight was so much stronger. The other two were a zx7rr and a vtr1000 firestorm. On the corners it was the Firestorm in 1st place and behind him was me on my old FZR1000. People would argue that the ZX10R or R6 should be first in the corners but this is the real world folks. And I was right up the firestorms tail all through those corners as well.

    I owned a 1993 FZR 1000 with 145hp and it was CRAP! They say you shouldn't meet your heroes and that is so true. Yes, it was the best Superbike in its period, but come on! It's heavy as hell, the exup-system is extremely vulnerable and the brakes are just horrible. I owned several bikes, that were built between 1980 and 2015 and the FZR was the first one I truly regretted buying.

    you obviously never bothered to read up on this bike did you? firstly how do you compare a Genesis to a B-king which has obviously got TWO decades of advanced technology? Second is WHY do you put this bike on the show if all you going to do is degrade the bike? 20 years is a little late to want to point out flaws on a motorcycle that is not exactly flooding the markets on popular demand. Clinton if you going to test these bikes learn to ride properly, your start and riding style was horrendous.

    Wish I had not bothered watching this pathetic reflection on what was once the Top Dog & is still a very naughty bike on the roads.
    Forks, brakes, suspension, wheels & therefore tyres, can all be upgraded to give a superb motorcycle for "relatively" low cost & when one can vastly exceeding your country's speed limits on older machines, why pay a fortune for a hypersports bike unless using the expense on track?

    • @uhtred7860
      @uhtred7860 ปีที่แล้ว

      Even stock suspension and brakes are fine is kept in good order on 80s/90s machines, especially on the road at sane-ish speeds. I upgraded my 86 GSX-R1100s suspension when i restored it last year, it got a brand new YSS rear shock, YSS valve emulators and springs in the original forks, (both front and rear were matched to my weight) the original calipers got a full strip with new seals throughout, a couple of the pistons were replaced, they were then re painted and good sintered pads put in, and braided lines put on. It stops and handles better than it did when new, which is fine for the road and the odd track day. My 87 FZR1000 which is getting a full restoration now will get a similar set up.
