@@SherMusician I so agree with you! Not knowing your age, just going to throw this out there. I remember back with nearly every single neighborhood in the towns where I lived and had relatives in back as a child all had a small family owned and operated store. My mom has that frog ring. Hers is from James Avery and she got it decades ago. I used to sneak into her jewelry box and wear it! She also has a cat ring from JA where it looks like the cat is laying lazily and it's tail wraps around your finger.
Alex - you are losing a lot of heat through your roof which makes the snow melt then freeze when it get to the edge. You need more insulation in the ceiling. Alternatively you could add a heating wire at the edge with a timer so you are not heating all of Edmonton ongoing. Initially I thought it was the back of the store where Josh put insulation but no vapour barrier before adding the decorative bags.
We used to install insulation, if there is no air gap, the heat transfers out to the roof, there should be air gaps at the roof edge, between the insulation, and the roof itself. They make styrofoam air vents to put in there, before the ceiling is insulated.
Vintage costume jewelry is very collectable! Think Monet, Coro, Trifari, Miriam Haskell, etc. As a collector, I’d advise caution when cleaning it, because it was manufactured inexpensively and can be easily damaged. (I found out the hard way!) Rhinestones should not be cleaned in an ultrasonic cleaner, as it can damage the older foiled stones.
I need to find the videos that tell about Hans' story. I love this couple and think that they add so much to the show. I'm glad that they were helped out of whatever poverty or issues they had and are now doing so well. Such happy people too.
What a nice find Alex! I love that bee pendant and that little frog ring was cute too. Very nice display and so nice to have help getting it all put out.
Great minds think alike! I too was stunned by the aquamarine bee and the frog ring. Gosh I sure miss the days when I could get out and go thrift shopping!
Someone may have already posted this: Emerald, ruby, and sapphire on the Mohs scale are softer stones. If they have cracks, jewelers fill them with something to keep them intact. An ultrasonic will clean that out and return these stones to a more fragile state. For that reason, we never cleaned rings with those stones in the ultrasonic. Of course, older stones were most likely solid.
On the gold ring the "red clay" was a jeweler's pitch. You can use acetone to remove it. Just soak the ring and it will remove it completely. Then just wash it in regular dawn dish soap and you're good to go. On your ultra sonic cleaning: never allow your jewelry to touch each other. You'll end up with minute scratches on the metal that will have to be polished out. A good at home cleaner for the ultra sonic is Simple Green that's diluted with distilled water. Use distilled water instead of tap water as it's free from minerals that may contaminate or react with different metals or stones and leave a residue. They may also be harmful to your ultrasonic over time. Nice find!

That is interesting. The thing with bars on the doors, outside ones esp. is that the glass can still be broken and they just stick their hand in and turn the lock if there's not a proper deadbolt. It's a shame that anyone has to even deal with this issue. But that's life. Good thing life is limited and there's hope beyond this mortal plane. At least for many there is.
I'm so happy to see you add a jewelry counter! I love your store, but so much of what you have falls under classic "guy stuff". I know oil cans and matchbox cars and sports cards are collectible, but I'm much more likely to buy a nice bit of bling as an impulse buy. You might want to add vintage perfume to that case as well. There was a reformulation of most perfumes just a few years ago, and a lot of them don't smell like they used to. Old bottles of nice perfumes are now quite in demand by perfume lovers who want the originals.
So true. Luckily I have a few vintage bottles of my favourite, Bal A Versailles, ranging from the 70s through to the late 80s. Once you get to the Genesis edition you really notice the change. I'm so glad to have come across Alex's channel. What lovely people and it's so interesting.

The jewelry displays look great! I have to admit though after the last burglary I get nervous for Alex when he shows us items in the store. I hate having that feeling but I do get it. I’ll pray for the safety of the store.
Another fun video!! Great way to start my day! Hey my dad had a jewelry store fo almost 50 years We had ammonia in out ultra sonic cleaner!!! So that works too!! Bye for now🎄🎅🏼🎁 Kathy Washington State
For future reference you can also do it by melting some lead in a spoon, dipping the contained item in said lead, letting it melting temp along and then very fast, flicking it across a disposable surface. I've come across such things in the past and it's by far the cleanest method...well, the outcome not the mess.
You’ve come across lead covered jewelry? That’s so weird that this was a thing common enough for multiple people to come across. Any idea why people did that?
I bought a frog ring similar to your frog ring for my daughter. On the outside, a frog. On the inside of the ring, a prince! The message: you have to kiss a lot of frogs before you meet your prince!
Don't kiss the frogs would be my motto, haha. I don't think they turn into princes in real life - mostly people go the other way - putting their best face forward at the beginning of a relationship.
Melissa's family owned a jewelry store, if I remember correctly. I would assume she knows all of this. But still kind of you to mention it, just in case.
In fact I had an aunt that never took off her opal ring as it was her engagement ring. After a amazingly short time doing things for cleaning with soap, laundry and dishes plus scrubbing floors etc. She killed the stone. Ended up a dead white stone without any sparkle or depth. So sad but she refused to listen to anyone.
Opals and pearls, you have to be very conservative about how you clean them, we used dawn and a soft toothbrush to clean these rings when I worked as a buffer at the jewelry chain store in the states
The ring with lead on it was likely set up for melting down, they add lead to "scrap" jewellery before smelting it to "cupell" it with other jewellery, the lead is separated away afterwards and takes out the other scrap metals, someone was going to destroy that ring at one point in time
Is that frog ring still available? I broke my femur two years ago that required surgery,as a result I had to remove my ring which was identical to the one frog ring you showed. Long story short, the ring disappeared and I was heartbroken. But then you showed the frog ring and described the foot going around to make the ring itself! I was so happy to see another one! So I am going that you still have it available for purchase. It was not an expensive ring ... probably ten dollars when I purchased it At Target in 1989 or so, but I Am interested in purchasing the one you showed so if you could give me a price I may buy the one you showed. I would love for you to tell me it's available!
Having & Seeing Hans is always a treat 👍 Now @Alex On a recent HORDERS USA Show they cleaned out & threw away pounds of Jewelry that she bought from Thrift Stores. Most was Necklaces but included Rings, Pins,Broches etc.. You could see the Bakealite, 50's/60's even 70's old stuff. In good condition. She loved her Jewelry. It was amazing and they made her throw 99% of it out !!! I kept hollering NO! NO! NO! ...Hahahah Of course no one heard me but my neighbors that are 100ft. away 😪 it tore me up lol Thanks for saving what you have put in & on the Cabinet. The Woman lived in N.Carolina ..Georgia is close but I never would have gotten there fast enough. Blessings...PJ 💌✌
Hello Alex, When a diamond ring or other ring with precious stones gets resized, the jeweller first coats the stones with a product to protect them from heat damage whilst soldering it back together it saves having to remove the stones and resetting them in the long run. I am not sure about lead though? But there are products that jewellers use to do this. Maybe the person who was attempting this resizing was a novice so did not have the confidence to go a head with it, and as the lead hardened did not get round to cleaning the ring back up again. You can not stretch a ring like that as the diamonds would pop out of place, so it would be cut and a new larger shank added so would need to protect the stones from damage when heating up the ring whilst gas soldering takes place. It is a beautiful ring. Lovely find. It looks like a ladies ring.
@@elipotter369 Alex commented in an earlier post today (7 hours before your comment) that the ring has already been sold! A fast sale -- must have been real diamonds!
I quit the Value Village here in Calgary a few years ago because they charge pretty much retail on alot of their stuff. Even Goodwill jacked up their prices significantly. There's only a few 2nd hand stores that are considered inexpensive now. Prior to the 2020 situation.
They have caught on to the resellers who shop there to make a profit. Certain stores that are supposed to be for helping the less fortunate are not necessarily doing that or not at the rate you would imagine.
I wish u would sell ur items online too. I saw LOTS of rings I'd most def purchase from u. My Mom, who passed away April will make 3yrs ago absolutely loved collecting antiques, so ur vid brings me many good memories of the times we spent together hunting for antiques. Beautiful store & job well done on finding such beautiful jewelry, and on the new display case! New subscriber here; this was the first vid of urs that I've seen. Thanks and have a blessed day.

I’m 80, always loved garage sales and love a good bargain. Would Love to be in your shoes😋👍 really wish this would go on forever thank each of you love your personalities THANK YOU😜❤️😊
The jewelry displays look great! I have to admit though after the last burglary I get nervous for Alex when he shows us items in the store. I hate having that feeling but I do get it. I’ll pray for the safety of the store.
When you were finding all that jewelry I was drooling! I’m a costume jewelry lover, esp. the sparkly kind! JEALOUS! Have fun with them!
Another fun video!! Great way to start my day! Hey my dad had a jewelry store fo almost 50 years
We had ammonia in out ultra sonic cleaner!!! So that works too!!
Bye for now🎄🎅🏼🎁

The jewelry counter looks amazing!! Great addition to the store. Can't wait for the next video.
Wow. Incredible. From the blob to the "Bling"!!
The filled display case is very classy and definitely adds to the ambience of your store! ❤
Hans is the kind of friend everybody needs but nobody deserves
What a beautiful comment. I couldn't agree more!
For future reference you can also do it by melting some lead in a spoon, dipping the contained item in said lead, letting it melting temp along and then very fast, flicking it across a disposable surface. I've come across such things in the past and it's by far the cleanest method...well, the outcome not the mess.
why do people do it? i mean obviously to hide its value but exactly from whom or why?
You’ve come across lead covered jewelry? That’s so weird that this was a thing common enough for multiple people to come across. Any idea why people did that?
I bought a frog ring similar to your frog ring for my daughter. On the outside, a frog. On the inside of the ring, a prince! The message: you have to kiss a lot of frogs before you meet your prince!
Don't kiss the frogs would be my motto, haha. I don't think they turn into princes in real life - mostly people go the other way - putting their best face forward at the beginning of a relationship.
Be careful with that us machine. Opals, and many other stones won’t do well in there.
And be careful of thermal shock.
Melissa's family owned a jewelry store, if I remember correctly. I would assume she knows all of this. But still kind of you to mention it, just in case.
@@ohg-67 I know I saw coral and turquoise that looked to have lost their bright color from the ultra sonic, being submerged, and the ammonia. :(
In fact I had an aunt that never took off her opal ring as it was her engagement ring.
The ring with lead on it was likely set up for melting down, they add lead to "scrap" jewellery before smelting it to "cupell" it with other jewellery, the lead is separated away afterwards and takes out the other scrap metals, someone was going to destroy that ring at one point in time
Enjoyed. Nice ring you discovered under the lead. Your jewelry display is very nice!

Good choice on bringing jewelry into the shop!!🤗😎🌸🌻🦋
Love the Pepsi Tin, if I lived in Canada I would buy it.
You could display it on the ceiling or wall, Hans would like that!
Love the Jewelry!!!🎄🎁
Always good to see Hans, nice jewelry find in the Diamond ring ♥️
I love Hans soooooo much!
Hans and Zanovia ROCK!!! Loved the jewelry!
I Thought the sheet of Pepsi cans was really cool. That would look good as a piece of pop art in a café.
Having & Seeing Hans is always a treat 👍
Now @Alex On a recent HORDERS USA Show they cleaned out & threw away pounds of Jewelry that she bought from Thrift Stores. Most was Necklaces but included Rings, Pins,Broches etc..
You could see the Bakealite, 50's/60's even 70's old stuff. In good condition. She loved her Jewelry. It was amazing and they made her throw 99% of it out !!! I kept hollering NO! NO! NO! ...Hahahah
Of course no one heard me but my neighbors that are 100ft. away 😪 it tore me up lol
Thanks for saving what you have put in & on the Cabinet.
The Woman lived in N.Carolina ..Georgia is close but I never would have gotten there fast enough.
Blessings...PJ 💌✌
Put on a respirator mask before playing with lead!!! Lead poisoning is a serious health issue.
The people robbing you definitely watch your TH-cam channel.
I thought the same thing when he showed the diamond ring. Praying it doesn't happen again.
I don't think he'll be leaving a ring like that in the shop,
@@elipotter369 Alex commented in an earlier post today (7 hours before your comment) that the ring has already been sold! A fast sale -- must have been real diamonds!
@@babawali3021 Yes I saw that when I read more of the comments. Good to get such a fast turn around.
And it's you, Red Foreman!
I love seeing the jewelry! You are making this woman's stylish period collection famous.
Maybe Zoltar can get a better broach for his hat.
Aloha Alex & Friends! Great score on the jewelry! I used to have a Frog ring exactly like that as a teen!
Ooo, I love the ginko leaf bowl! That’ll be great for displaying jewelry
The jewelry display turned out great, Alex! Hello from Michigan!
Good you have such good friends. Hope you make lots of money selling your things.
I quit the Value Village here in Calgary a few years ago because they charge pretty much retail on alot of their stuff. Even Goodwill jacked up their prices significantly. There's only a few 2nd hand stores that are considered inexpensive now. Prior to the 2020 situation.
Resellers have played a huge part in charitable organizations raising their prices.
They have caught on to the resellers who shop there to make a profit. Certain stores that are supposed to be for helping the less fortunate are not necessarily doing that or not at the rate you would imagine.
Loving that jewelry case and the visit from Hans and Zenovia❤️
I spoke to soon!! Hans an Zinovai ...Hi you beautiful crazy kids!!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY ALEX 🎂
The jewelry displays look great. I'm glad you had some help.
Costume jewelry have been done if my favorite finds when going to yard sales.
Happy birthday for tomorrow, best of success for the auction..🎂🍪
Once the world is safer, I would love to travel to Canada to visit your shop. I love watching your channel. I especially enjoy when you invest in hoarder houses and clean them out. The transformations are incredible. You and your people work so hard. Truly amazing! And the dad jokes, omg, the dad jokes. 🤪
