He has some real magic emotionally. Very sensitive and powerful. Superb pianist also. I'll be looking for a chance to hear him in person.

Now that I've read the other comments... You're doing something very right when the "pros" come out to critique! This is a beast of a role and aria and you negotiated it very well. Bravo!

barking and crooning without any beauty in his real voice. I am sure he calls this as being dramatic.

This aria is too heavy for his voice. Good voice but wrong repertoire.

For me this rendition is very comparable to the old 1960s version by the great Jan Peerce.
Very "cut and thrust". There is perhaps a bit more artistry in Peerce's version. This man is a little over the top, but it must be fairly easy to overcook it, it's what the aria is all about.

Wonderful! This is a tough one ;-) One of my favorite operas. I was lucky enough to perform this in Bozeman Montana with Pablo Elvira... Still brings me to tears at times.

Agreeing with what others noted on the “percussive” approach and wishing less tension and more legato - this still beats Kaufman barking. Liked. Will likely enjoy in house, such a rich voice. Will be just whispering: “Careful, please!.”

Easier to listen to his voice then to watch him "perform" or produce the sounds. I've heard him sing three pieces and he seems to beat them up to produce the sound....and that's my assessment without watching him. I like the "weight" of his voice, but I wonder if he's going to "blow a tire" the effort I hear him put into producing each sound. I'm sure its very emotionally stirring in "live" presence, but I should think he'd be striving for longevity and not just "I'm so emotive, watch me, now, hey". I don't hear him caring for his voice and there's much history to suggest where that may lead.....

This aria is TOO HEAVY for his voice to maintain the legato with brilliance while not losing the voice in the low notes and not
to be led astray by applause. Suggest that he listen to MARIO LANZA who studied with ENRICO ROSATI, Gigli's teacher.

It not the aria that's too heavy. Some of the best versions are lyric or lyricospinto tenors. Gigli, di Stefano for example. Doesnt have to be so relentlessly loud. It's a tender, tragic moment with his mother. For my taste, he is too extrovert for such a private moment. Mamma is right next to him. No need to shout.

Three points: 1) I like his commitment and his beautiful voice, but I object to his cavalier treatment of the text (not the pronunciation, and diction, which are very good, but rather the actual words, which he changes). 2) My main concern is the rather percussive approach to notes he uses to communicate intensity. This has already been argued and re-argued... it's not healthy to "hit" notes, nor does it lead to the type of implied elegance of expression you expect in vibrant operatic singing. It goes without saying Turiddu, as a character, is rather rustic, however the singer should convey that through musical means, not with substandard vocal practice. 3) The last point would be the couple of spread high notes here, another dangerous point which make me question his technical adroitness.

Maybe you could voice your concerns some night after one of his performances at any of the leading houses he’s worked at. But then again, you could only hope to be so lucky.
