      You're welcome! It's good to be able to know how to do the basics to save some $$$

      You definitely need to rotate your tires every oil change or at the least every other oil change

      I believe the service manual says every 10,000 or every 12,000. So yeah every other oil change is good

    Also check old filter and even the filter location to verify gasket hasn't been left on engine.will prevent proper seal

      I'd check it with the dip stick. If it's dark brown or black change it. If it's a clear gold color you're good to keep driving. If it's milky then you got bigger problems and get it towed to a mechanic

    Thank you for this video. I will attempt to do my oil change tomorrow lol. You make it look easy. I have same car 2015 Malibu. It appears that this car's engine light is on. Do you know why? Mine randomly comes on , stays on for hours-days at time then goes off again. I've had is scanned by 2 professionals who said the only info was old brake codes, nothing new came up. Thank you

      If the engine light is on there will be a code. Its probably best to get a code reader for yourself as they are so cheap these days. amzn.to/3EpFuk0

    Probably a stupid question, but my buddy told me to use 10W-30… Would that be bad? Should I go back and get the 5W-20? I wasn’t sure if he told me to use that because I have 80,000+ miles

    • @InDepthSonar
      @InDepthSonar  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Should always use what the manufacturer recommends if you go with a lighter weight oil like 5w30 in cold climates in the winter some people do that. I personally just go with what the manufacturer recommends

    • @poemranger
      @poemranger 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Manufacturer recommends 5w-20 or 0w-20 for the 2.5l engine
      5w-30 for the 2.0l and 2.4l engines

    How many bolts do the engine oil pan take

    Do you have to jack the car up or put it on ramps?

    • @InDepthSonar
      @InDepthSonar  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes either would work. Or drive it up on a curb

  • @arbucklebryon4335

    For some reason I always flush my oil pan with 1extra qt while drain plug is out.

    • @InDepthSonar
      @InDepthSonar  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's a good practice to ensure all the old oil is gone.

      Arbucklebryon, I do the same thing! By doing this, I’m trying to get a majority of the old oil drained out from the bottom of the oil pan.

    Do I NEED the filter wrench or can I do it without it

    • @InDepthSonar
      @InDepthSonar  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You could try without it, but it's definitely easier with depends how tight it is

    What do you do with the old oil?

    • @mauricedudleyii1658
      @mauricedudleyii1658 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Put the old oil in the empty container the new oil came with and take it to autozone, they dispose of it for free

    Where can I get that oil plug gasket? Do you have a number or brand

    • @poemranger
      @poemranger 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Napa is FPG 70820
      Advance auto 70820
      Auto zone 70820
      If u go to the parts store tell them the car maker chevy the engine size in my case it’s a 2.5l they can get u the right gasket. You can look at the online website for each use the part number to see if they have it or u can call them. All 3 above are FEL-PRO gaskets.
