@@denM-ey3vb Matt has been very fair. How did he write them off when he enjoyed iron man 1 and 2? He is not a comic book movie guy, that's the interesting thing about these videos. It is an outside perspective on this franchise that many of us comic fans are way too close to to be able to judge objectively. The first captain america is a very mediocre and mostly boring movie, that was the general consensus when it came out, not sure why Holden is obsessed with it and attacking Matt for finding it unremarkable.

I have to admit, I get frustrated listening to some of his reasoning. These movies aren't about the details, they try to be as realistic as possible in an unrealistic fantasy world. It's understandable that these things annoy him but he shouldn't get hung up on them. Learn to let things slide and just enjoy the ride. With that said, I would rather an honest opinion than all those other reactions you see with people who obviously dislike the thing they just watched but pretend to like it.

Dylan Jones appreciate ya. The little things of the character being red drives it more towards comic-ish. I agree they try to make it fairly real so when they introduce these types of things I bet hung up. I feel like that is the the importance though. That specific argument is entirely garbage to me, because Howard Stark is a goddamn genius and if there ever was an excuse to have people use gloves a little before people did in real life, it would be the guy who invented a super serum to create Captain America

Yeah, this happens with me on some stuff. Like my friend finally had me watch Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, kept on hyping it up and said it was impossible to overhype because it's that good. It was meh imo, and that thing is stuck with a 7 in my ranking because I expected so much more.

Its not a nuclear Reactor. Its an Arc Reactor. Its special because it provides self sustaining clean power as powerful as nuclear energy without the radioactive decay. Its more impressive that he built this in a cave because the techology barely even exist. Not even the brightest engineers could replicate it with state of the art equipment.

Most likely his worse take, how can your issue be that they dont explain how much of a super hero it is when the whole plot is that its the heart that makes you one. A firefighter is a hero, give him a syrum that makes them 10x stronger they become super hero, but they were always a hero its that simple Edit: I feel like explaining the point that red skull and him were made by the same doctor, and although you could say it’s just due to the experiment being done better the second time is why cap isn’t red, it also goes back to the syrum amplifying whatever a person is, someone who is demonic of spirit ended up looking so too. Also, Yh cap wasn’t meant to be the only super soldier so in that way you can argue he’s even less super considering they were always planning to make an army of people like him

@@MattLaneFitness I believe that CA: The First Avenger is incorrectly placed in the MCU timeline. The movies leading up to this set up a more grand and larger then life idea of a "superhero" that left me underwhelmed the first time I saw it. Maybe it wouldn't have worked to grow the MCU into what it is today, but imagine if this where the first movie in the series. It would set up the "superhero" as someone that is a hero at heart that possess a super human ability. As it stands in the timeline, for me it feels more like the early adventures of Rambo and his A-Team (Special Forces Team). P.S. I made this comment before watching the previous reaction. To be clear, I am not recommending a different react order, just saying it's my belief that it would work better from a storytelling prospective.
Matt feels like he's trying to be smarter in his complaints than they actually are.. Like, he's caught up in nit-picks and minutia about things while ignoring the larger overall story (like his expressions when Black Widow was kicking ass in Iron Man 2 like "OKAY, no one can do THAT" but can suspend disbelief long enough to not take into account that Tony would've been killed upon impact in the crash landing in the desert). He's finding the tiniest of foot holes while scaling the mountain face of "I-don't-want-to-like-this". He'll allow himself to be pleasantly surprised when a movie hits all the points spot on(like with Iron Man) but I get the vibe he feels he's above this and will overly scrutinize a film apart rather than just sit back and allow a movie, with a set of rules it sets up In Universe, to be entertaining.
I hope I am not insulting but I don’t think he is very intelligent. At least in a way that requires analyzing art, perhaps he is very mathematically talented or in some other field that uses different type of thinking. But in case of these films it would be understandable if he didn’t like them but his arguments are focused on such odd issues. Or he isn’t able to explain what he wasn’t fond of and defaults saying the film is like Star Wars which he didn’t like.
“The fight scenes are drug out.” He... just doesn’t like action or respond to the filmmaking of that kind of thing. It’s really clear when you take his reactions all into account. Avengers will be torture for him.
I would say that the fight scenes weren't even good, which for me, is why they would feel dragged out. Captain America didn't have a good fight scene till Winter Soldier.
@@War624 Thing is, I don't even see Winter Soldier doing anything for him in the action department. I could be proved wrong, but I've never seen him actually praise one scene of action over the other in anything. Star Wars is filled with incredible stuff in that department, and you still just got "went on forever." It doesn't seem to ignite his interests at all.

Enjoying scenes doesn't make the movie. That's an issue people have, they think a movie having 50% or 25% good aspects means you should call the movie good. They say things such as "ignore all that and just look at these more important(?) things", the things they say to ignore are even things as important as the characters in the movie or the plot, they even say the theme (basically the basic idea the creators had when planning the movie) is all you need to call something a masterpiece. In a movie, looking at everything about it is extremely natural
Ragnarōk is too much star wars :p. There are scenes that happen in different planets. Even if there is absolutely no plot points or story beats similar to Star Wars, it's totally Star Wars. I am pretty sure Star Wars itself wants to disown him.

I think if he wasn't into the fun adventure of The First Avenger, he would care for Indiana Jones. I guess Jones is a bit more human than Cap, like he gets beaten up a lot more, but so does John Wick and Matt didn't really care for those either. Who knows!

I did't really care much for Thor and Cap when I first saw these films in theatres, but they really started to grow on me after Avengers. When I rewatched the movies in preparation for Endgame I really really enjoyed them.

I personally didn't enjoy the first Captain America either. Thought the character was blah. Captain America 2 was awesome though. CA definitely developed through the movies.

For me, having only seen The Incredible Hulk at the time, The Avengers really caught my atention at the theater, I couldn't believe it was that good with so many characters, and reminded me a lot of a few Ultimates comics I had read (especially the same joke with Hulk "wiping the floor" with the villain after they belittle him). It got me hooked to see all of the movies in the MCU.

The first half of captain america is gold. Everything before going into the actual war is really good character work. It's all downhill from that point until the very last shot. Also cap's score is amazing.
Just imagine waking up 70 years later and Everything's changed that would be hard to take of your pill to swallow seeing as beautifully done! One of the best Marvel movies ever story you got a date

I started watching this series in the middle or end. I was watching the movies randomly. I can’t believe they were doing two movies reactions in one video. . This series has grow so much. It’s really lovely to watch.
@Andy Salter its not the same story over and over. The ending hardly matters, if you think all of them are about punching bad guys and winning at the end, then you watch then on a shallow level, which they aren't.
Matt- "that's just a nitpick" that's literally what I said about all his critiques 😂. Im not dissing him because everyone has different opinions and tbh I wasn't a huge fan of the first Cap movie but I don't really understand his problems with the film.
I actually think the First Avenger is only good in retrospect. I love Cap, he's probably my favourite avenger too, but I think The First Avenger, in comparison to everything that follows is just a little forgettable. Upon watching the other movies, watching Cap's origin feels incredible, but I think on its own it isn't fantastic. Still probably the best movie after Iron Man 1 before the Avengers edit: Matt's totally wrong though. Cap isn't a super hero because he's just strong, but Iron man's a super hero because he's rich? wut?
I always kinda liked Cap1, but was let down by his whole career and development as a soldier being a montage. We could have easily made at least two films from the content of this one film alone.
A channel calked "Cosmonaut variety hour" said perfectly why the first avenger isn't that good in his video where he reviews all mcu movies. He said something like "Captain America is a really interesting character but the movies don't really dive deeper into his character, all of his movies are dumb explosion movies that don't explore his character" or something like that and I think that's a really good explanation why I personally didn't like the movie that much
I'm gonna go ahead and say it. Captain America: The First Avenger is my favourite MCU movie. Even with the likes of infinity war, civil war, winter soldier and endgame. And i love those movies as well as pretty much every other movie in the MCU.
@@thejokergaming1196 I don't know I've just always really liked it ever since I saw it for the first time and no matter how good future movies would be, I would always go back to the first avenger. I think it's probably a mix of the time period as well as the effects of chris evan's head on a skinny guys body which I still say holds up incredibly well. Also Captain America is my favourite avenger so that may have something to do with it. Then again he became my favourite avenger after seeing this film for the first time. Overall just a really great film with a great origin story for a great character.

Most likely his worse take, how can your issue be that they dont explain how much of a super hero it is when the whole plot is that its the heart that makes you one. A firefighter is a hero, give him a syrum that makes them 10x stronger they become super hero, but they were always a hero its that simple
Edit: I feel like explaining the point that red skull and him were made by the same doctor, and although you could say it’s just due to the experiment being done better the second time is why cap isn’t red, it also goes back to the syrum amplifying whatever a person is, someone who is demonic of spirit ended up looking so too. Also, Yh cap wasn’t meant to be the only super soldier so in that way you can argue he’s even less super considering they were always planning to make an army of people like him

@@MattLaneFitness I believe that CA: The First Avenger is incorrectly placed in the MCU timeline. The movies leading up to this set up a more grand and larger then life idea of a "superhero" that left me underwhelmed the first time I saw it. Maybe it wouldn't have worked to grow the MCU into what it is today, but imagine if this where the first movie in the series. It would set up the "superhero" as someone that is a hero at heart that possess a super human ability. As it stands in the timeline, for me it feels more like the early adventures of Rambo and his A-Team (Special Forces Team).
P.S. I made this comment before watching the previous reaction. To be clear, I am not recommending a different react order, just saying it's my belief that it would work better from a storytelling prospective.
Matt feels like he's trying to be smarter in his complaints than they actually are..
Like, he's caught up in nit-picks and minutia about things while ignoring the larger overall story (like his expressions when Black Widow was kicking ass in Iron Man 2 like "OKAY, no one can do THAT" but can suspend disbelief long enough to not take into account that Tony would've been killed upon impact in the crash landing in the desert). He's finding the tiniest of foot holes while scaling the mountain face of "I-don't-want-to-like-this". He'll allow himself to be pleasantly surprised when a movie hits all the points spot on(like with Iron Man) but I get the vibe he feels he's above this and will overly scrutinize a film apart rather than just sit back and allow a movie, with a set of rules it sets up In Universe, to be entertaining.
I hope I am not insulting but I don’t think he is very intelligent. At least in a way that requires analyzing art, perhaps he is very mathematically talented or in some other field that uses different type of thinking. But in case of these films it would be understandable if he didn’t like them but his arguments are focused on such odd issues. Or he isn’t able to explain what he wasn’t fond of and defaults saying the film is like Star Wars which he didn’t like.

I would say that the fight scenes weren't even good, which for me, is why they would feel dragged out. Captain America didn't have a good fight scene till Winter Soldier.
@@War624 Thing is, I don't even see Winter Soldier doing anything for him in the action department. I could be proved wrong, but I've never seen him actually praise one scene of action over the other in anything. Star Wars is filled with incredible stuff in that department, and you still just got "went on forever." It doesn't seem to ignite his interests at all.

Enjoying scenes doesn't make the movie. That's an issue people have, they think a movie having 50% or 25% good aspects means you should call the movie good. They say things such as "ignore all that and just look at these more important(?) things", the things they say to ignore are even things as important as the characters in the movie or the plot, they even say the theme (basically the basic idea the creators had when planning the movie) is all you need to call something a masterpiece. In a movie, looking at everything about it is extremely natural

Ragnarōk is too much star wars :p. There are scenes that happen in different planets. Even if there is absolutely no plot points or story beats similar to Star Wars, it's totally Star Wars. I am pretty sure Star Wars itself wants to disown him.

I did't really care much for Thor and Cap when I first saw these films in theatres, but they really started to grow on me after Avengers. When I rewatched the movies in preparation for Endgame I really really enjoyed them.

I am really hoping they’re gonna like The Avengers.
For me, having only seen The Incredible Hulk at the time, The Avengers really caught my atention at the theater, I couldn't believe it was that good with so many characters, and reminded me a lot of a few Ultimates comics I had read (especially the same joke with Hulk "wiping the floor" with the villain after they belittle him). It got me hooked to see all of the movies in the MCU.
Dude....even watching the clip in this where he says "i had a date" literally makes me get a lump in my throat...maybe because i know where this goes and what he gives up for her but damn man....CATFA is such a good, fun and layered movie how did he not like it at all?!

The first half of captain america is gold. Everything before going into the actual war is really good character work. It's all downhill from that point until the very last shot. Also cap's score is amazing.
Just imagine waking up 70 years later and Everything's changed that would be hard to take of your pill to swallow seeing as beautifully done! One of the best Marvel movies ever story you got a date

I actually think the First Avenger is only good in retrospect. I love Cap, he's probably my favourite avenger too, but I think The First Avenger, in comparison to everything that follows is just a little forgettable. Upon watching the other movies, watching Cap's origin feels incredible, but I think on its own it isn't fantastic. Still probably the best movie after Iron Man 1 before the Avengers
edit: Matt's totally wrong though. Cap isn't a super hero because he's just strong, but Iron man's a super hero because he's rich? wut?
I always kinda liked Cap1, but was let down by his whole career and development as a soldier being a montage.

or something like that and I think that's a really good explanation why I personally didn't like the movie that much
I'm gonna go ahead and say it. Captain America: The First Avenger is my favourite MCU movie. Even with the likes of infinity war, civil war, winter soldier and endgame. And i love those movies as well as pretty much every other movie in the MCU.

@@thejokergaming1196 I don't know I've just always really liked it ever since I saw it for the first time and no matter how good future movies would be, I would always go back to the first avenger. I think it's probably a mix of the time period as well as the effects of chris evan's head on a skinny guys body which I still say holds up incredibly well. Also Captain America is my favourite avenger so that may have something to do with it. Then again he became my favourite avenger after seeing this film for the first time. Overall just a really great film with a great origin story for a great character.
