I just can’t get enough of this channel. I love seeing these old tools brought back to life. A few years ago I inherited a lot of old hand tools from my wife’s grandfather and you have inspired me to buy a bench grinder and get to work making these old tools beautiful again.
Hello Eric! You know, a good wire brushing and oiling can make most older tools look amazing! You will be surprised at how great it feels to restore his tools and know that he would be proud that you did! Awesome story! Thanks so very much!!!!!!!!!
I also used to collect stamps, and I winced when I saw those great old stamps! As you illustrated in the closing section, unused they would have been even more collectible. It seems crazy to use them to post mail today - but an elder likely sent them, who probably had a good reason. Best part for me was the Bridgeport catalogue reprint.
Hello Marc! Stamp collectors always have a bunch of older stamps that they might have gotten under face value! Almost all stamp collectors use old stamps for postage! =) Thanks Marc!!!!!!
Thoughorly enjoyed the video! As a lifelong collector of stamps, I thought it was a rare show of appreciation to a hobby that seems to have fallen out of favor.
Hello Steven, It's a shame too, I still collect but not as much as I did years back. I tried to get my Scouts into collecting them but the youth of today don't collect much of anything. LOL Plate Blocks are my thing. =) Thanks so much!!!!!!
A lot of great variety in this one Scout. The stamps brought back memories. I now know the magnetic brass wheel from HF is worth the $. And I also thoroughly enjoyed your thumbing through the Bridgeport catalog where I spotted my nail puller! Keep the great videos coming :)
Thanks for a wonderful video!! Perfect job of restoring the wrenches. I have to say that I have never seen a more beautiful bench vise than the red one. OMG, it is so beautiful!!!!
Hello Steven! I am so glad you liked that vise!!!!! Did you ever see my Video titled "6K Subs! Past Projects Revisited. Concert Roller organ." If you put that into the search bar I think you will enjoy the other vises I have done like my Parker! Thanks so much Steven!!!!!!!!!!
Hello John! I started collecting stamps when I was about 13 or so... A good hobby can really keep a teenager out of trouble... Mostly because they will want to spend their money on the hobby and not Drugs and alcohol... My friends with no hobbies all turned out screwy! LOL Thanks so much!!
Hello George, I must go thru over 100 pounds of seed a Month here feeding the birds and squirrels! There are always about 6 squirrels kicking around here everyday. They wait for me and have sort of a pecking order... The funny thing is there is a huge Oak tree just behind the Wild Cherry that the Squirrel is sitting in, well that squirrel's great, great, great... Grandfather planted that Oak there 30 years ago and now it gives lots of acorns that attract more squirrels... They really think ahead! LOL Thanks so much!!!!!!!
Hello David! Collecting Stamps was such a great hobby.. There were so many things you could collect too. The best part was for a kid with little money you could still have lots of fun! Coin collecting was always more expensive... =) Thanks so much!!!!!!!
Hi Jill! You and I were born way too late! =) Imagine 5 of those stamps hung around 59 years only to be used last week! =) Pretty cool! =) Thanks Jill ! =)
WOW! I had no idea I was into stamps! I was looking in so intently, I didn't realize my supper was getting cold. Sorry SC, had to pause you in order to finish eating. Very cool wrench set! Glad your "brass" brush still worked out!
Hello IITE! It's never too late to start a great stamp collection! It's inexpensive and lots of fun too! People collect by countries, subjects, animals, birds, space, years... You can pick your favorite subject and find lots of stamps referring to that... Then there are stamp shows where you meet really nice people and can see tons of nice stamps... The best part is they don't take up too much room! Not like collecting anvils! LOL Thanks!!!!!!!!!
great video mate my grandson got a bike shipped in from amazon trying to build it up my tools would not fit so dug out my old A/F imperial tools and great fit good job i keep all m,y old stuff keep them coming friend
I really liked how they turned out. I was also surprised to see that they have the metric equivalent on the other side. It's just fun to hunt for the oddball stuff and you never know what you will find. Still would like to see and hear more about your farm. Since we live in the land of big ag out here it's nice to see something different than corn and beans. Still a few old cars and tractors out here LOL guess that's all I have to use. At least I can work on them.
Hello my friend scout Crafter!!! I'm here again... those wrenches remember me the set of tool that come with the old cars that was on board in a roll also with a screw drivers and other things some day I will like to see a video Restoration of an vintage car tool kit thanks for show us this tool set wrenches!!!
Very interesting on postage stamps..thanks for sharing...great job on open wrenches..I used that brass/steel wire wheel..strand all-over the place..my solution paper towel over a magnet, pick strands up...wrap paper towel, discard...
Hello Blackie! Yes! I've been lucky that this wheel hasn't thrown any wires yet! I had another wheel that would leave you looking like you had a porcupine encounter! LOL The paper towel over the magnet is a great tip... I have some sandwich bags downstairs just for that purpose! Nothing worse then Iron filings in your pick-up magnet! LOL Thanks Blackie!!!!!!
Another great restoration. I liked the nail pullers in the catalog. When we were kids somebody had one of those nail pullers where the handle can be banged down to get the pincer around the nail. No of us had seen anything like that so we thought it was really cool. Later as an adult I was in one of these independent hardware stores where they always had some old guys that really knew their stuff and I spotted a nail puller for sale. Needless to say I had to buy it. - Kathie
Love the wrenches (you have started me calling them wrenches rather than spanners!). It seems strange that the raised head is not the same size as the next ones flat head as you can be sure that the nut will have a corresponding bolt that needs holding. As always, great video, interesting history, starts the day right. Best wishes from over the pond.
Hello Tony! These wrenches are bent on both ends, and yes, the duplication of sizes would allow a double action on the same fastener... Thanks so much Tony!!!!!!!!!
Looks like you got a double whammy, wrenches and stamps! I've either had some wrenches that had the standard/metric size stamps somewhere. I might still have. I never know what I'm going to find when I get to prowling around. So stay warm, Palley! Finally got cold here and the old Fisher heater feels NICE but it;'s supposed to warm back up to 40 before long. Thanks, Scout John!
Hello Lewie!!!! I was surprised to see these older wrenches marked both Standard/Metric that was a bit unusual back then... Now days standard is falling by the wayside faster and faster. Just when I was starting to understand fractions too! LOL Thanks Lewie!!!!!!!!
@@ScoutCrafter I understand. I had the hang of them and then everything went all to flinders and now it's just poke and hope for me. And I thought that was a squirrel in the tree behind you but it's either a very FAT one but probably is a cat. Take care, Scout!
Hello Tony! I usually only collect new/unused stamps but now days when I see and older stamp on something I soak it off and put it in a album... Maybe one day a young kid will show up bored and in need of a hobby- then he can have that! Thanks so much!!!!!!!!
That catalog reprint is really cool. It has to be a little bit of a trip leafing through it. The wrenches are some nice pieces of steel as well. I don't enjoy offset open end wrenches very much but those at least look cool.
Scout, seeing you soaking those stamps to remove them from the package sure brings back memories. Unlike you, I remember well when postage went from 3 cents to 4 cents and then to a nickle. The cry that went out from those changes. We would also buy an envelope of foreign stamps from dealers that advertised in magazines or comic books (can't recall which). Got stamps from far away places like Mexico. LOL
Hello John! I still collect Stamps and I do remember those Foreign stamp lots that you could get from the back of Boy's life and other magazines! I basically collect Plate Blocks now... and Russian Space stamps! Thanks John!!!!!!!!
@ScoutCrafter - I wanted to say Boy's Life but I was uncertain. Too bad my collection is gone along with my parents. I think we tossed them reluctantly when we sold their home of forty years.
neat wrenches,i still use my ignition wrenches on small engines because of the points and ignition coil. those oddball sizes come in handy sometimes, interesting wrenches
Hi, In all the years I have been buying used tools, I have seen very few Bridgeports, I have some, but never saw any wrenches like yours. I am guessing that it is the area, out hear in rural America, it was mostly Sears or wards, comming in the mail. The bridgeport stuff I run into is 40,50, 60's stuff. I guess by then the tool world had caught up with us hicks...LOL Great Video, Thanks
Hello Joel! You are so right! It's amazing how geographical tools were back in the day! There were tools that were all over the northeast but scarce out west! In today's market that is inconceivable to think of! Thanks so much!!!!!!!!!
Hi..Well they came out nicely..I also liked the catalogue..that Seminole crate opener I saw..Have seen a Chinese knockoff copy available in some shops a few years ago..Didn't realise it was a crate opener, I thought it was a "Multipurpose Peasant Tool " ...regards Bob
Hello Bob! Wasn't it amazing how much time and effort was put into marketing those lovely tools... They were hand drawn and nicely described. Just a gem of a catalog! Thanks Bob!!!!!!!!
Working machine repair for Borg Warner I had to work on lots of hermaphrodite equipment. Some of the big gang drills had tags that said War Department Paint. First World War not Second. 😆 They had fasteners that were proprietary. Not any particular system. I imagine they came with a tool kit like Planet Jr Planters. After 60 years and being rebuilt numerous times the tool kits were long gone. Since they were Canadian, Metric was standard, but we ended up making or modifying tools for some of the setups. We also had to replace a lot of fasteners because the setup guy thought an Adjustable wrench and Channellocks were thr answer to everything. 😈
Hello UD! You know, Stamps are really fun when you get around others who collect or can shoot the breeze about certain acquisitions... I usually only collect US stamps but years back somehow I started collecting Russian Space Stamps... Wow! They are really nice and tell the whole history about the Russian space program. Very interesting... Thanks so much!!!!!!!
I really really enjoyed this video. From the squirel in the tree to the cutting out of stamps at the end. Thanks! Sadly not many people on eBay ship from the states to europe. And if they do it is crazy expensive. I actually have some "brass" hooks wich I used on our mailbox, looked at them the other day and they are actually rusty now.... Look forward to your next video!
Hello Alex! LOL Me too! I remember years back I was repainting my porch and my buddy said why dont you replace those Old doorbells.. I made the mistake of listening to him and removed the 80 year old doorbell buttons and installed two brand new "Brass" replacements... It looked great for the first year or two then they rusted out and left me shaking my head as usual! LOL Thanks so much!!!!!!!
Hello Emerson! You know as a long time stamp collector many times you can buy collections of stamps at below face value so stamp collectors many times will off load extra's by using them for postage! Pretty cool! Thanks so much!!!!!!!!
You know that Curtis Jenny stamp was a nice looking stamp! They made a reproduction for collectors... The stamps were $2 stamps this time... The cool part is they intentionally printed one sheet with the Plane right side up and sent them out with the reproductions... Those stamps are worth big money! =)
Hey I was searching HY-BAR wrenches 🔧 and you popped up👍. I picked up a 5/8-3/4 one but the stamping are different than yours. It doesn’t say Bridgeport, but it does say HY-BAR on the 3/4 side. And mine doesn’t have the raised part in the middle of the handle between the stampings. Alloy Artifacts said HY-BAR probably started in the 50s. Maybe that’s why they weren’t in that catalog.
LOL I feed my buddies everyday! They eat a lot of seed and nuts! There are about 6 regulars and a few transients that hang out in front of my house all day... =) Thanks so much!!!!!!
Nice restoration, your videos are always so interesting because you always give the history of the tool and or company. Did the catalog come via eBay with the wrenches or separately? I like the little pointer, I noticed you have them in at least two colors! Thanks!
Hi Frank! You know a few videos ago I was looking for history on the Bridgeport Hardware Manufacturing Corp. when I saw this catalog reprint on Amazon!! I was shocked! The price was $8 shipped! Unfortunately it said I bought the last one! How cool was that! $8 and it is such a great catalog! If today's companies put out cool catalogs like this they might sell more tools! Thanks so much!!!!!!!
@@ScoutCrafter sorry if it came off as complaining. I like harbor freight products. It simple to static balance with some side cuts to lighten up the heavy spot. . simple maintenance and things will last.
The catalog is fascinating. The caption on the picture of the plant shows "Irantan Ave."... as a former BPT resident, I'm pretty sure this is a typo and is meant to say "Iranistan Ave." You can see the Wikipedia article on "Iranistan" and read the tale of P.T. Barnum (BPT's favorite son) and his mansion that went down in flames...
Hello Hmcnally! That is some great information! I too am fascinated by that catalog.. It was so well designed and presented. I bought this off Amazon! It was the last one they had and priced under $8 shipped! I think you are right about the misprint. When I was learning how to fly on Long Island we always would fly over to Bridgeport airport because there was no landing fee and it was a short hop over the Long Island Sound! Thanks so much!!!!!!!
Hello Ben! The recess was a nice opportunity to get creative with some color but I want to complete the set and find out a little more about these. I need the 2nd smallest wrench. Thanks so much!
What a cool set. I wonder why the 3/4 didn't have the co. name on there? Btw, I miss the old music. When my dog Oliver would hear it, he'd run around in circles! Swear to god!
Hello Brian, It's still in the mix I promise! You know, I too was wondering why the 3/4 was unmarked... I am looking for the second smallest wrench to complete this set... Thanks so much!!!!!!!!!
@@ScoutCrafter Which size are you missing? Glad to hear about the music. It's the little things in life! I should make a video of him running around. You'd crack up.
Hello Bill! Removing stamps is super easy, just soak them in Hot tap water for a couple minutes and they fall right off the envelope or box, then just put them on some paper towel to dry... When dry they might curl a little so just sandwich them in a heavy book! The funny thing is I buy old stamps on eBay and when those guys send an envelope it is FULL of old stamps! It's really a fun hobby! Cheap too! Thanks Bill!

You always add something interesting like stamps. To day with franking machines all the good has gone out of stamp collecting. The wrenches were marked with metric as the USA was going to go fully metric, however they lost two space craft mixing litres with gallons and said they would stick to imperial. I bet those thicker wrenches are stronger than the slimline ones you get today. As for your brass coloured wire wheel, I was influenced by some youtube videos to buy knotted wire wheels for a grinder. Absolutely useless as they are two hard no flex in them at all. Bought a copper coloured wire wheel like yours for the grinder much, much better.
Hello Tony! Americans are just too stubborn when it comes to Metric conversion.. LOL As for the Knotted wire brushes they are good for industrial work like cleaning off rail road tracks or anvil tops! However for regular work like we do they are too stiff for sure! Thanks so much!!!!!
Having the metric equivalent printed on the tool is nice. What speed do you run your lathe at when you are using it with a wire wheel? Great stuff, I'll keep an eye out for that missing second smallest wrench. Cheers
Hi Joe! I run the lathe at 1625... I can go faster but it seems a nice speed for that brush... Soft and flexible it really gets into small areas! Thanks Joe!!!!
I just purchased a buffing wheel. It came as a set of 3. A soft cloth one, a denim wheel and a harder one that I don’t know what it’s made of or when it’s used. Any thoughts? Thanks
Hello Nayr! The funny thing is these wrenches weren't in bad shape and pretty rare so I usually don't "Cross the line" in a situation like this. To be honest I never saw these wrenches before and nobody I know have... I tried looking for the missing wrench on eBay and the ones I saw (not the one I needed) were all quite expensive ($20) for a single wrench!!!!! Lastly if the recessed part of the wrench was a little smaller I might have been tempted to paint but with areas that large it becomes very over-powering when painted... =) Thanks so much!!!!!!!!
Nice SPANNERS 😂 they look to be 'drop forged'? Imperial sizes are virtually obsolete here in the UK now as we adopted the metric system quite a while ago.
Hello TD, Yes! Drop forged and we (US) were going to be off the standard system back when Jimmy Carter was president (1977-1981) he promised to bring the US up to date by implementing the Metric system. Every school was to teach the Metric system and within 4 years we would be up to snuff... Well, needless to say when it takes you millions of brain cells to comprehend Fractions your brain refuses to give in and here we are 40 years later still buying Gas by the Gallon and Milk by the Quart! LOL Thanks TD!!!!
I also dislike these cheap wire brushes that are labelled as being brass. No wonder why they are cheap. A real brass wire brush costs a lot more. Very cool catalogue. It'be neat to see a review of the catalogue itself.
Hello Chris! I wonder why the mis-labeling? They open themselves up to problems later on when trying to deceive people. You're so right about that catalog! Back in the mid 20's you had to really be competitive, there was so many great tool makers around! Thanks so much!!!!!!
Hi Bernie! Will check now! I was at a town meeting tonight! The city is putting a Homeless Shelter right in the middle of town to house 200 single homeless men... Nice! Every parent's nightmare! LOL Thanks
Makes me sad to think of all the wonderful companies in the Northeast that produced good quality tools and products..now gone..replaced with cheap imports. Loved the video tho.
Hello Vernon! You are so right! Now we know why our Grandparents always had that look of disappointment in their eyes! LOL The 70's was the worst... everything was just getting cheaper (quality) by the day! Imagine living in the 40's-50's where everyday things got better! Every year the cars were getting more beautiful and made to last... Now you go to a .99 cent store and marvel at all the junk around you! =) Thanks so much!!!!!!
Hello Heathclor, No, the Bridgeport machine Company that built great machines like the Bridgeport mill came years later... They were both in Bridgeport Ct. though! Thanks so much!!!!!
Hello@@BestUserNameUK, Yes, it's in Connecticut... Many of our tools from years ago were named after the towns they were produced in... I think it helped in getting Tax breaks! LOL Thanks!!!
Hello Cindi! LOL I did... I have a pretty big collection of stamps.. Mostly US but I did start collecting Russian Space Stamps about 15 years ago. Russia made some really beautiful space stamps!! Go figure! =) Thanks Cindi!!!!

THANK YOU...for sharing.
Always a great presentation.
Hello Al! Thanks so much! That BHM Catalog is such a nice reprint! =)
Wrenches turned out nice. I have some of those, great tools. Thanks
Hello Cooper! Once I get the missing wrench I will feel "complete" LOL Thanks so much!!!!!
I agree that 19/32 size sure is popular like the 25/32 ! LOL
Hello Mick! LOL It's a wonder the whole world didn't just fall involve with Fractions! LOL Thanks so much!!!!
@@ScoutCrafter Some of my old Crescent 1/4 drive sockets are these sizes and I've YET to find anything they'll fit.
Working machine repair for Borg Warner I had to work on lots of hermaphrodite equipment. Some of the big gang drills had tags that said War Department Paint. First World War not Second. 😆
They had fasteners that were proprietary.
@@OldSneelock Still do in some spots. HI Unc!
Bent you say? To the Dake! Just kidding, good job!
Hello DJG! You know the little offset really makes them feel quite nice!!! Thanks so much!!!!!!!!
Nice job as usual .
Hi Kevin! Thanks so much!!!!!!!!
Would love to see the whole set looks great as always
Hello Robert, I am only missing one wrench, the second to the smallest... I am keeping an eye out! Thanks!!!!!!
Cool wrenches! I have many of those stamps in my collection. I am still not sure why I started THAT collection.
@@ScoutCrafter Haha great story! Good idea for a future video, restoring your "new" 80 year old doorbell found at the flea market or salvage yard.
You know Alex, I think I kept the old ones! I don't trust anything new! LOL Thanks!!!!!
@@ScoutCrafter I have a hard time throwing anything out too! You never know when it comes in hand right.
Super nice job on the wrenches. Boy the old stamps value sure gave you a discount on the purchase price. You gotta wonder what someone was thinking.
Hello Emerson! You know as a long time stamp collector many times you can buy collections of stamps at below face value so stamp collectors many times will off load extra's by using them for postage! Pretty cool! Thanks so much!!!!!!!!
How cool. Too bad one wasn't an upside down biplane. :-)
You know that Curtis Jenny stamp was a nice looking stamp! They made a reproduction for collectors... The stamps were $2 stamps this time... The cool part is they intentionally printed one sheet with the Plane right side up and sent them out with the reproductions... Those stamps are worth big money! =)
Creepy hand haha, great vid and work...thanks
Hello John! LOL Imagine I used a prosthetic! =O LOL Thanks very much!!!!!!!
Bonitas llaves, pero sobretodo un catálogo muy vintage !!
Hello Alfredo! Yes! Those older catalogs were so nicely done! Thanks so much!!!!!!
nice job ,thanks scout
Mr 6Yp! Thanks so much!!!!!!!
Good video i had the chance to buy some but they had someone's name engraved in them so i passed. Good work. 👍
Hello Bert! Wow! You don't usually see these around! I think maybe the fact that here in the NE there might be more! Thanks Bert!!!!!
These turned out super neat and it doesn't surprise me about the brush mass produced stuff but it did a great job :D
Hello LV! The funny thing is they sell it as "Brass" but I don't know why? =) Trickery I guess! LOL Thanks!
@@ScoutCrafter haha indeed you are welcome do you have the 5th wrench or waiting till you find one ;o
@@lordvengerx I'm looking for one at a reasonable price... Haven't found one yet..
@@ScoutCrafter that's awesome scout if I see anything I will gladly pass along great content love it all!!!
That squirrel looked like it was hanging on for dear life.
LOL I feed my buddies everyday! They eat a lot of seed and nuts! There are about 6 regulars and a few transients that hang out in front of my house all day... =) Thanks so much!!!!!!
thanks scout for the vid and your time ... †
Hello RK! Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed it!
Yeah I like my harbor freight brass wheel too.works great the only thing I had to balance it first drove my motor crazy when I first installed it.
Hello Dave! Yes! This wheel is out of balance too! I'm not complaining considering how much I paid. =) Thanks so much!!!!!!!
Another great job. But I'm a bit surprised you didn't paint the cavity red. Is that because you want to keep it more original?
Hello Ben! The recess was a nice opportunity to get creative with some color but I want to complete the set and find out a little more about these. I need the 2nd smallest wrench. Thanks so much!
Great job, I hope you find the missing piece
Hi Tom! I have found singles but they are very expensive! $15 for a single wrench is pretty expensive!
Great Video!! GREAT RESTO!! REALLY NEAT Stamps!! Did you soak them in anything special to get them off the box??
Thanks
Hi John! The "Hard" wheel is the one you want for steel... The others are good for gold, jewelry and other gentle metals! Great stuff!!!!!!
When did they stop making tools? Any gues? Great video
Hi Joe! They were bought up in the mid 60's by Crescent... They had some nice stuff though!!!!!! Thanks!!!!!
I am going to look through by stuff for some Bridgeport, I go by some old factories there on my way to work, love all the history of old tools.
So do I Joe! My GF lives in Newtown and I was amazed at the history of tool manufacturers in CT! Thanks!!!!!!!!
Curious why you didn't paint the recessed areas. Looks like they'd be perfect for how you usually do them.
@@ScoutCrafter Oh that makes sense. Thanks for responding!
LOL Thanks TD!!!!
whow was that a new brush motor?
I also dislike these cheap wire brushes that are labelled as being brass. No wonder why they are cheap. A real brass wire brush costs a lot more. Very cool catalogue. It'be neat to see a review of the catalogue itself.
Hello Chris! I wonder why the mis-labeling? They open themselves up to problems later on when trying to deceive people. You're so right about that catalog! Back in the mid 20's you had to really be competitive, there was so many great tool makers around! Thanks so much!!!!!!
Win win! Love there tools. Great job as always. Send you an email buddy.

Hi Bernie! Will check now! I was at a town meeting tonight! The city is putting a Homeless Shelter right in the middle of town to house 200 single homeless men... Nice! Every parent's nightmare! LOL Thanks
I bet you will find the missing wrench under a neighbor's porch.
Hello WC! LOL I remember playing under porches when we were kids... It was like having a fort! =) Thanks so much!!!
I knew you would save those stamps. lol Did you shellac those? or just some wax?
Vaughn
Hello Vaughn! LOL No finish on those. Just dry them out and put them in an album! =) Thanks very much!
How much tools do you have?
Hello David! Way too many!! Or not enough, Depends on who you ask. =) Thanks very much!
@@ScoutCrafter XD I know what you mean
Does the Bridgeport company that made these wrenches have anything to do with the company that made the Bridgeport milling machines?
Hello Heathclor, No, the Bridgeport machine Company that built great machines like the Bridgeport mill came years later... They were both in Bridgeport Ct. though! Thanks so much!!!!!
@@ScoutCrafter Great info', I never knew Bridgeport was an actual place 😳
Hello@@BestUserNameUK, Yes, it's in Connecticut... Many of our tools from years ago were named after the towns they were produced in... I think it helped in getting Tax breaks! LOL Thanks!!!
Keep the stamps
Hello Cindi! LOL I did... I have a pretty big collection of stamps.. Mostly US but I did start collecting Russian Space Stamps about 15 years ago. Russia made some really beautiful space stamps!! Go figure! =) Thanks Cindi!!!!
Nice set. Hope you find the fifth wrench. Don't know if you have watched this one. m.th-cam.com/video/zuKvBkbn4Vo/w-d-xo.html
