Qipao Tango 似是故人来 + 大师作品 旗袍探戈舞 Hipnotized 2023 [Stanford Chinese Dance]

In this qipao tango dance, we pay homage to Cantopop and its remarkable experimentation with different styles over the decades. We present a fan dance set to a classic song by Anita Mui (梅艳芳) that draws from traditional Cantonese opera, followed by a tango fusion set to thrilling music by Leo Ku (古巨基). Through these two pieces, we tell the story of two more-than-friends separated by the vagaries of fate - inspired by the plot of “Twin Bracelets” 《双镯》, a 1990 Hong Kong movie by a feminist Taiwanese director. It is a heartwrenching narrative of female friendship and love in an unforgiving society.
