    Finally got one thru James 👍.. Ahhh the 80s , spent my youth 85-89 ( 11-15 yrs old ) Def Leppard , Van Halen , Bon Jovi , Ratt, Motley Crue , White Lion , Poison , Skid Row , Guns N Roses . I had cassette tapes of all them . Man in the Box by Alice In Chains changed my music taste in 1990 then PearlJam , Nirvana , Soundgarden hit the MTV airwaves late ‘91 and hair bands / glam rock-metal was done for me and I guess in general

      YES FINALLY! lol man that was a mess. Hopefully, TH-cam just had me on a watch list for a bit and now that's over! I really liked this Poison song, so I am interested in more from this genre, but, I don't want to neglect any of the artists I've been reviewing. I think I will work on a schedule.

    Musicians like CC Deville or Tom Keifer won't get the recognition they deserve because the first thing people go to is how they looked for MTV. It's a shame

    please react to “unskinny bop” and “talk dirty to me” also by poison

    One of the guitars that lead guitarist CC Deville is playing, is the hot pink Jackson DKM (DK2 maybe??) with the matching headstock and a maple fretboard, is a holy grail guitar from the 80s. OMG! And you paused on it perfectly. So iconic. There are re-issues today of that guitar. Built for metal, but will also do bluesy riffs quite well too. CC Deville has a degree in music from Columbia U (I think). One of his professors told him he was wasting his talents playing rock music. LOL!

    Never judge a book by its cover…for sure. This was the best time to be alive. Concerts were amazing…good times for sure. Thanks for the refreshing reaction. Check out the Open up and say…ahhh album. They’re my fave band of all time for a reason…they’re fun!

    They were a fun party band and had great fun songs, great fun live band to! I recommend Talk Dirty To Me, I Want Action, Looked What The Cat Dragged In, you want great ballads Every Rose Has It’s Thorn and Something To Believe In! The guitarist who was the lead guitar 🎸 and had the awesome riffs is CC Deville!

    In spite of what you may have heard James, a lot of 80s hair bands did not cheat on musical abilities. Some pretty good guitarists. Lived that era

      @@JimJamFam Cinderella is a cool 80s band. I also think The Cult is another banger band from the 80s. Albums both "Electric" and "Sonic Temple" are excellent

    Poison, and hair bands in general, catch a lot of hell. But it's what everyone was listening to back in the day. It was fun and energetic, the live shows where a blast. Normally what you saw in the videos is what you could expect live. Poison never claimed to be a deep, intricate band. They were a party band. I can suggest Talk Dirty To Me, Look What The Cat Dragged In, Ride The Wind. Most people will request the ballads. I'm not much of a ballad kind of person, so if I had to choose one, it would be Until You Suffer Some(Fire and Ice). IMHO, it's one of their better ballads.

    So funny seeing a guy your age comment on music from the 80's when I was playing in a band (prior to real job). Taking a quick time warp to the 80's here's reality...
    Pretty much EVERY performer that actually performed and could draw an audience to fill a medium sized venue was frigging fabulous relative to what's heard on pop music today of just about all pop genres. There's plenty of great guitar players/bass players/drummers/etc today but you don't hear it on pop music (with VERY few exceptions) heck most are still playing shit from the 50's 60's 70's 80's.
    Now back then if you were "serious" you shunned pop and you were mediocre (popular sentiment with musically oriented ppl) if you were not approaching or surpassing virtuosity and innovation and tone and sound on par with EVH, Randy Rhodes, Page, Vivian Campbell, Nuno Bettencourt etc, etc, etc, etc, etc... "Hair Metal" and "Glam Metal" basically took a lot of the sound/feel of "Real Metal/Hard Rock" and just made it a tiny bit more relatable for the pop market. Like Motley Crue (After their success there were a TON of Hair/Glam metal). Most of them were great relatively speaking but "not credible" to genre snobs or the ever escalating what It took to be considered "good".
    The same thing goes for Punk and New Wave.... Take Joan Jett and Blondie (both came from Punk but made the sound/feel/attitude more palatable for pop consumers) same with New Wave etc. "Real Punk fans" would deride any pop success or blending of genre.
    I am SURE rap/hip-hop there's the same thing going on today = you get the point.
    Ps. Even the pop people were generally GREAT musicians back then and the vast majority were fantastic performers (IE Duran Duran, Blondie, Motley Crue... Hell I'll bet you half the pop "artists" of today if given actual instruments, no computer and NO professional band for hire couldn't hold a candle in a live performance to even The Bangels (which were about as good as say ummm you're average bar band but had a great look/great hook/and good show)

    This was big but not Motley Crue Dr. Feelgood big. Poisons big hit song was 'Every Rose Has its Thorn'. I ran into CC, the guitarist of Poison, when I went to Woodstock 1999, and he looked like hell lol! If you are going to dig deeper into this genre, I would recommend checking out Skid Row's 18 and Life. They had the hair band look, but much more talent then most of the hair bands.

    • @JimJamFam
      @JimJamFam  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Got it! So, there was some drama within the band. I guess that is most bands these days. I will check out Skid Row.

      @@JimJamFam It was an epic breakdown, CC Deville who was the guitarist was wasted and played the wrong song live at the MTV music awards, that and the song Unskinny Bop, killed Poison. An interesting fact was that Slash from Guns and Roses originally auditioned for Poison, but the band thought he was too ugly.

    • @JimJamFam
      @JimJamFam  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Jays1fan1 Thank you! CC Deville seems like a badass guitarist so that sucks. I can't imagine playing the wrong song on such a big platform. I understand him getting fired. Too bad! I will have to react to Unskinny Bop, just to get an idea. HAHA, I wonder what a poison with Slash would look like...

    A good band who just happened to be 80s? WTF? Dude, there were tons of great bands from the 80s. Some of the next bands are from the 80s. Today's music is garbage compared to those guys. Maybe you should react to more than two 80s bands before you start bashing the 80s.
