I followed your instructions and I was successful! And yes, the ECM needed to be replaced. I had mine rebuilt at a local shop. The only problem I had was, the hoses were so old, they had melted. Thanks for sharing.
I am glad you enjoyed the video. The first one kinda messed up, but all the others were pretty good. to answer your question on programming the keys, I am afraid there is no way around it. It's part of the Ecm programming and the way the car is wired to have it operate. Mobile locksmiths can program keys. That may be a cheaper alternative. As for the Ecm, the part number is not determined by the ink code. A scanner is used to get the part number
Really appreciate your "how to" videos regarding the IACV removal for the 2000 Maxima. I had erratic idling when the car was cold (never when fully warmed up). I had the P0505 error code and decided to try and have the ECU repaired and then changed out the IACV. I also installed a new Throttle control valve (even though you mention that you don't need to) while it was out and easy to do. I don't own a Consult II to go through the idle air volume learn process, however the manual way worked just as well. Once done the idle air learn process my ol' girl is purring again! Thanks again for the videos - much appreciated!
Thank you for replying! Oh okay.. I ask because it is an extremely expensive part at Nissan & I don't think that I can spend that kind of money in replacing it. But thank you once again! Appreciate it.
so with parts and labor im pretty much looking at around 2 grand. I think I'm just going to set my car on fire and get the insurance money out of it... just kidding. thank you for the advice man you've been really helpful
Yes it's very possible! If you stick your nose on the passenger floor where the left foot would be, remove that trim. That is the ECM and stick your nose on it. If that is where you smell it the strongest, then yeah, it's the Ecm
Hello, The P0171 is normally due to a MAF sensor. Not a 02 sensor. Keep in mind I never recommend After Market Electrical Parts. When it comes to electrical parts I suggest you stick with the dealer. As for your Ecm and IAC issue, if you want it fixed replace it with Nissan Parts. I have seen to many times people get used, or rebuilt parts and they don't work and they end up wasting money to only have to spend more to fix the problem.
You need to press down that green tab on the connector push and pull up while it's pressed down. Some times dirt can debris can keep it stuck. If you can't unplug it, just remove the intake duct and work around it.
If you watch what I was doing, I used a screw driver to press the release tabs on the connectors. The IAC is a different connector than the MAF, just take a small pocket screw driver and press on the tab and pull to unplug.
If you only replaced the IAC and not the Ecm, then you will now need to replace the IAC again with the Ecm.. That is the exact reason I changed both in this video. Outside repair shop only replaced the IAC and not the Ecm. So I had to replace both, program keys to get it to start and do the idle relearn to ensure the repair is good!
When you replace the Ecm and the IAC at the same time, the only thing you need to do to verify the repair is to program keys and perform the idle relearn
hey nice video. I got a 01 maxima with check engine light mass air flow sensor. the car starts to fail when it gets hot. you think its only the the MAF or the IACV??? PLEASE answer thank yoy!
I have a infiniti i30t the car would cut out when i attempt to start it or it would start a little then shudder and cut out. When it cuts out the engine service light would come on as well as the engine oil lamp. I went out and bought a lucas complete fuel treatment and it helps the car to start but I can't figure what is causing the car to cut out in the first place
I have a 2001 Infiniti G20 that has a high idle that just revs 1500-2000 constantly. Engine cold or hot, it doesn't matter. Car doesn't cut out though. I took out the ECM and it is not fried. At least I don't see any fried components on the board. How do I check the IAC to know it is bad? I did get a check engine light, but I worked on the car with the battery disconnected an entire week-end, which cleared the code I think, and it hasn't thrown a code yet. I haven't been driving it very much either. Any other things that can cause these symptoms on these cars 2000-2001?
I have the same P0505 code on my 01 Maxima but there's no leak in the throttle body, IVF sensor and ECM probably got burn, what's the reasonable cost for this repair?
If you watched my video, I have never seen a Repaired or Refurbished one work! Everyone talks about this place in Florida that repairs them and sells repaired one, but I have gotten cars with those Ecm's and they never work and end up wasting your money. Don't mess with repaired junk. Do it once and do it right! Yeah it may cost more in the end, but you have no idea how much it ends up costing when you try to save! Costs you twice as much!
Does a 2001 Maxima have to do the relearn after new ECM? I had ECM replaces but not IACV and now showing P505.IDles erratically in park, between 1-2K RPMS but doesn't stall and accelerates fine but idles a little high. Thanks
Got to "Courtesyparts" Dot Com I would get the parts there. The Ecm is around 744 bucks and the IAC is around 230, which would be cheaper if you got it at the dealer, yet it's still a Nissan Part to correct your problem.
Hi, great series of videos, I really enjoyed watching. I have read quite a bit about the problem and am about to dig into mine. A couple questions, is there any way around the key reprogramming? I hate the idea of a tow to the dealer and another couple hundred bucks for the Immobilizer fix. This is a 12 year old car that no one will want to steal, is there no way to bypass it? What ink stamp codes of ECM will work on this car? Mine has a 3T stamp. I would love to get this thing on the road again
I'm curious what you ended up having to do ? I built high end custom cars for decadess and built custom cars for decades, back when parts custom weren't available. Taking the front subframe from a 1970s Trans Am and putting it under a 1955 Ford Stepside Pickup, or always seeking the Bullet Proof, Ford 9inch, Narrowed, Disc Brake Rearend from Ford Granadas and putting them in 1969 Mustangs, Camaros, etc... and so on.. When the Fuel Injected Small Blocks came out... We would cut up Newer Mustang and Camaro Harnesses to fit the car and have the Ecm Proms reprogrammed for our Engine, Injector size , etc but also ELIMINATE VATS... Vehicle Anti Theft System... Which sounds like Imobilizer to me... though there are other ways to bypass these systems , generally...
If your getting the MAF sensors after market, that is why it's not working properly. When it comes to after market Electrical parts, they never work right. If indeed you have a MAF sensor issue, get it from the dealer.
Bryan Lee There is manual ways to do the relearn, but the manual way won't tell you if you resolved your problem or not. You are looking for the scanner to say complete like in my last video. That will let you know the repair is good and the Ecm can control the IAC properly
I just had one in my shop. I replaced the IAC after seeing the P0505 now after seeing your video im concerned. Im going to be getting the ECM. The vehicle only ran for about 1-2 mins without changing the ECM. I then unplugged the IAC from the vehicle to be sure no damage would occur if I needed to move the car. Do you think the IAC is ok still or do they short out immediately??
On a 2001 nissan maxima auto i have a IACV taken apart right now and its full of radiator coolant in my intake and down to my air filter. Now with that said is this a defect of the old IAC leaking? and is this what burns it out? Once this IAC and ECM is repaired, how can it be prevented from happening again?
What happens is the Gasket Fails for the IAC through age and time. I normally try to sell these IAC gaskets as a preventive maintenance. But it's the gasket that is what gives way allowing the coolant to short out the IAC windings which burns the Ecm.
FixyourNissan And also just as you showed in your video the ecm chip is cooked. our shop is located in canada so where is a good place to find a replacement ecm ? if i find one at a wrecker that looks intact and and not burnt can i use it? we also have a key programmer here so that should'nt be an issue.
BOSS PRO AUTO Sorry, I don't know of any places in Canada to recommend. There are two different Part Numbers so if you get one used, make sure it's the same one. Yes, the keys would need to be programmed. Then a Idle Relearn with a Scanner to verify the repair is good.
I have a 2001 Nissan Maxima with the code p1130 and I'm trying to fixed it I had this code for two years now.I changed out a lot of vacuum hoses with new ones and blew the hoses out with a air compressor. Please help
hows it going . I just came across your 2000 2001 maxima ecm iac video. You did a great job with it. Im having a similar issue. i noticed my car was shutting off in neutral or if i didn't give it gas on my 5spd Maxima. As i pulled up to autozone in forked river NJ i noticed a buzzing sound from the engine module relay under the hood. (near the front left part of the bumper.) i pulled out the ECM and sure enough that chip is burnt up. I havnt gone any further yet. I was hoping you could give me some friendly advise on weather or not i should get a new ecm and Iac. My concern is that this is going to lead to other issues and may be a lost cause. When you replaced those two in the past have you seen other issues come up? any advise is appreciated as I just got laid off.
I watched your videos a couple times over. what issues was this vehicle having? my 2000 maxima has cold start issues, wasn't so bad in the wormer weather but has worsened as we entered the colder weather. I have to hold on the throttle at about 1500rpm to maintain an idle for about 15 minutes, once worm it will hold an idle and sometimes dies upon slowing down (approaching a stop sign etc. Is this the fix Im looking at for mine? Thank you.
Hey j I was just curios of what kind of scanner/programmer you are using.? I'm having the same issue and am looking to tackle it on my self. I would really appreciate it! Thanks for all the helpful videos btw
I am replacing my IAC valve and having a hard time removing the throttle body in my 2000 Maxima. The IAC sensor plug is stuck. Any tips on how to unplug it without damaging any wires? I'm not exactly sure how/where to depress the plug, like others (MAF for example is easier because the tab is more visible.) I noticed in your video you quickly popped it off @ 3:26
Hey FixYourNissan.....I just purchased a 2001 Maxima SE for my son to beat around in while at college. It only had 38K miles on it. It is throwing a code of P0505 code. I bought it anyway. I hope I did not mess up and this becomes costly. I plan to buy the original IAC Control Valve OEM HITACHI ABV0039. Will this fix the high racing of the engine? What is the cheapest way to get this fixed? I have a mechanic and he allows me to bring him parts and he will install. What should I do?
So did this fix your car. I had this problem and watched all these vidio one after one saying bad ecm. So after a hundred hours of reserch i found a bad wiring harness by the passenger side strut.causing bad cam bad crank and bad idle air. What turned me to this is that it wil cause the ac to not blow cold. Change harness and all problems went away. O and bad knock senser. People say if you do burn emc and change it it will only happen again. Im thinking these wires are are touching here and is the route problem of all the max problems lucky my ecm didnt go out. Bit im betting ot never will. I see you had this go out 5 years ago has it happend again. Or any of the other senser faild sense then
hey J. i seem to have developed this problem with my 2000 i30. i usually do work on my car myself so i went head and got a iac and a ecu. i however dont have the program to relearn the ecu. i have a small reader that i use to check my codes. my question is how do i get my hands on the program to relearn my car and will it work on any code reader. thanks. great videos bro.
Hi! I have an issue with my Nissan Maxima GLE 2000 and there are two codes that are showing up and they are the P0505 (which I understand is the IAC) and the other is the P0171 which is the O2 Sensor (gas sensor I assume)... now I got the O2 sensor replaced and it still shows the code. is this because of the P0505 code that is causing this other code? & do I have to buy the IAC/ECM from Nissan or can I buy it somewhere else and just reprogram it at Nissan? Please help me in this! Appreciate it!
@@FixyourNissan thanks alot for quick reply! Also motor mounts sensors disconnected will this trigger CEL? can I use used ECM and program it along with keys if not where to sent my ECM? Thanks a bunch!!!
+Glen Robinson It could be a few things. Get someone to scan it for you and see if any error codes come up. Don't wait until a check engine light comes on. Fix it now before your ECM frys.
Hey my 2001 maxama is idleing around 500 rpm when i give it gas it runs fine but it will dye when i stop most of the time. Is this the same problem. I have creaned the idle part. But still have the same problem. Please help.
Yes. But i had shop do it. Im thinking it might be the check valve on the fuel pump. But there is just to many sensers on these new cars. It dosnt have a rough idle or stall when driving though
Im in colarodo so im not sure what time zone your in but i work nights. If youhave any suggestions it would really help.im doing a tune up this weekend. But like i was saying im lost. And have to do it myself because im on a budget.
This is the cause of my problem. You should make a vidio on it. Harness on passenger strut. Causing all kinds of problems. I think it what causez ecmto go out on all of them. www.lyberty.com/car/Maxima_A32_docs/EC-engine_control/NTB98-008b.pdf
Having the same problem changed everything iac and Ecm got it relearn at the dealer They said everything drove it home and a couple days later same check engine light p0505 but car still running good anything I should look at?
If you had the IAC done, and Repair Repaired, it could be the Repaired Ecm. Diagnostics would need to be done to determine if the ECM repair is good or not.
its my turn to ask the Master...2001 gxe P0505 code...and SERVICE ENG SOON.... replaced IAC..SES light went out......eng idle is very erratic 1000-1200.....time to get an ECM????i can do it my self....the key programming was a bit foggy.....what machine/s you use?????
I have a 97 maxima that has a starting problem, it just cranks but then catches the 3rd or 4th time. I changed all the sensors iac etc. But no change do u really think it's a grounding problem?
Please keep all question on topic with the year and model of the video. Your year Maxima does not have this issue like the 2000 and 2001 Maxima and I30's
You are very welcome. Thanks for watching. If you are going to send the computer out to be repaired, make sure you replace that IAC as well. So Both should be replaced at the same time
Hello! I have a 2000 Maxima, and we just replaced the IAC because the motor would stall out after engaging clutch or after letting off the gas pedal after the car gets hot... After replacing the IAC, the motor idles high at about 2000 rpm, and we tried to relearn the ECM 3 or 4 times. Do you think replacing the ECM would tell the IAC to control the air flow through the motor or do you think I need to be looking somewhere else? Thanks!
Gaelyn Wood It is possible it's a bad Ecm, Try having a Idle Relearn done to see if it would take. If not, then the Ecm will need to be replaced & you may want to replace the IAC again to make sure that it can be relearned properly.
+ Gaelyn Wood what if you have a P0505 code but your car is running fine?! The idle isn't high or rough, it's not cuttin off. If my ECM was bad or it burned because of this how would I know if my car is runin fine?! wouyld an ECM relearn get rid of the code?
To anyone watchin, and or readin the comments, I had a P1130 code and I changed the mass airflow sensor, problem solved. I got a MAF for like $45 bucks online...
@@FixyourNissan thanks for responding so let me understand better , my car rpms will drop only in park an when she is warm sometimes she will die otherimes it will bounce back I have no engine light , IAM going to clean it today do I have to replace the gaskets or can I use old ones ? If I replace the whole iacv I will have to tamper with the relearn procedure an the ECU ?dp you know if I have to remove I iacv off throttle body or can it be cleaned without taking off screws ?
Joshua Romero yes that is due to the coolant shorting out the IAC. So both the Ecm and IAC will need to be replaced to resolve your problem I am afraid.
HI! Is there a way to check the ECM besides visual and If I unplug my IACV can I still drive the car without damaging the ECM in case I give up and bring it to a shop? I'm going to check the ECM for damage, if it doesn't look damaged I'm going to check the IACV to see if the voltage OHM's are correct (hopefully so) then take it out and inspect it to see if it works (goes in and out) and if it's junked up and stuck then clean it out and if it then moves properly by turning care on and off I'll put back in the car wtth a new gasket to prevent further gunk. If either the IACV or ECM is burnt out I'll replace the IACV with a new one and send the ECM out for repair....probably also clean out the throttle body and replace tb gasket too. Does that sound like a good procedure? Right now the car idles very quickly between 1200 and 1800 rpms when in park but no codes...was getting low pressure threshold in bank 1 sensor 1 but it went away after I put mid grade in it. Thanks for the help!
Unesseacry cleaning it worked but problems coming back now prms race in park instead of drop shame car runs good spot of money into it I don't want to mess with my ecu 😔
@@snowfall1771 I would send it out to be checked. This is such a common thing to be damaged. That if you spend the Money on a IAC and the Ecm is bad. You are bad to square 1
Stay away from K&N air filters for your car. They never work right. They cause a air vortex which causes the air and fuel mixture to be off. They also screw up MAF sensors cause of the oil on the filter.
Hi talked to you a month ago about iac in 01 max. Turned out to be harness on passenger strut causing rough idle and ac to not blow cold.codes..... cam. Crank. Knock...bank 1 and 2 idle control.speed sensor iac p0505. Changed and its like new. Im thinking this is what the deeper problem is. They say if you clean change iac and ecm it will only happen again. What do you think. Not a mechanic just work on my cars. Its just crazy to me that the ecm is going out on all these cars.
Coolant ruins the IACV ,then the resistance fries the ECU.The coolant line needs to be bypassed .otherwise this will happen again.Failed design by nissan. This is my thread,on maxima.org. maxima.org/forums/5th-generation-maxima-2000-2003/702046-think-my-ecu-fried.html

to answer your question on programming the keys, I am afraid there is no way around it. It's part of the Ecm programming and the way the car is wired to have it operate. Mobile locksmiths can program keys. That may be a cheaper alternative.
As for the Ecm, the part number is not determined by the ink code. A scanner is used to get the part number

I have to hold on the throttle at about 1500rpm to maintain an idle for about 15 minutes, once worm it will hold an idle and sometimes dies upon slowing down (approaching a stop sign etc. Is this the fix Im looking at for mine? Thank you.
Allan McAra hey I know this is a 3 year old post but did you ever figure out why your vehicle was having cold start issues?
Hey j I was just curios of what kind of scanner/programmer you are using.? I'm having the same issue and am looking to tackle it on my self. I would really appreciate it! Thanks for all the helpful videos btw

Your the shit man thank you
You are very welcome
i have a 2001 i30, which i believe has the same issue any idea how much this would cost to get this problem fixed, with both the iac and ecm replaced.
I am replacing my IAC valve and having a hard time removing the throttle body in my 2000 Maxima. The IAC sensor plug is stuck. Any tips on how to unplug it without damaging any wires? I'm not exactly sure how/where to depress the plug, like others (MAF for example is easier because the tab is more visible.) I noticed in your video you quickly popped it off @ 3:26
+Deelow hey thank you for your reply! I was able to pry it off with some throttle body cleaner. Got it replaced!
Another question what could happen to my car if i don't get these parts replaced anything serious?
Hey FixYourNissan.....I just purchased a 2001 Maxima SE for my son to beat around in while at college. It only had 38K miles on it. It is throwing a code of P0505 code. I bought it anyway. I hope I did not mess up and this becomes costly. I plan to buy the original IAC Control Valve OEM HITACHI ABV0039. Will this fix the high racing of the engine? What is the cheapest way to get this fixed? I have a mechanic and he allows me to bring him parts and he will install. What should I do?
Finn , any luck with it?
Mine is doing the same ..
I'm replacing the iacv, maf and the manifold pressure sensor.
Do I have to program the ECM?(I do not know if it is good or bad)
I maybe. Are you looking to have this done?
our maxima 2001 has po505 codes. 86,000 miles. We are having a shop do it!!! Thanks for the po505 videos anyways.
I have 02 i35 12/01 build date CEL with p0650 cuts power at about 2700 rpm any help would be appreciated! Thanks
That is a Ecm fault code. Does the code clear out? If not, then you need to send your Ecm out for repair.
@@FixyourNissan thanks alot for quick reply! Also motor mounts sensors disconnected will this trigger CEL? can I use used ECM and program it along with keys if not where to sent my ECM? Thanks a bunch!!!
I have a 2001 Infiniti i30 was no check engine light. sometimes when coming to a stop it has a rough idle what could that be?
+Glen Robinson It could be a few things. Get someone to scan it for you and see if any error codes come up. Don't wait until a check engine light comes on. Fix it now before your ECM frys.
Hey my 2001 maxama is idleing around 500 rpm when i give it gas it runs fine but it will dye when i stop most of the time. Is this the same problem. I have creaned the idle part. But still have the same problem. Please help.
Have you tried cleaning the Throttle chamber it's self?
Im gonna clean it this weekend do you have a vidio showing how to do it. I paid a shop to do it an i dont know maby the just didnt do it right.
This is the cause of my problem. You should make a vidio on it. Harness on passenger strut. Causing all kinds of problems. I think it what causez ecmto go out on all of them. www.lyberty.com/car/Maxima_A32_docs/EC-engine_control/NTB98-008b.pdf
Is it aftermarket or dealer scanner
i change my po505 light code still coming up can help me by telling what els could be wrong pleas
Having the same problem changed everything iac and Ecm got it relearn at the dealer They said everything drove it home and a couple days later same check engine light p0505 but car still running good anything I should look at?
Where did you get the Parts? New or used?
Iac valve from the dealer and ecm from a company in Texas that re chip them but it running good that what I don't understand with the p0505 code
Where can I find a video like my problem?
Jeremy Lopez Did you have a Engine or Transmission replaced recently?
No, I just got a 2014 maxima problem fixed lol
It's hard to tell if the IAC is failing. It normally happens with out warning.
i have a 1999nissan maxima it starts up for bout 3 to4 sec then shuts off any answers on whats my next step
Thank save me alot of trouble I opened the computer and bang ...
Burn thanks
Thanks!
Gaelyn Wood Did you have a P0505 code?
I did not, that is why I think the ecm is bad.
Gaelyn Wood
It is possible it's a bad Ecm, Try having a Idle Relearn done to see if it would take. If not, then the Ecm will need to be replaced & you may want to replace the IAC again to make sure that it can be relearned properly.
+ Gaelyn Wood
what if you have a P0505 code but your car is running fine?! The idle isn't high or rough, it's not cuttin off. If my ECM was bad or it burned because of this how would I know if my car is runin fine?! wouyld an ECM relearn get rid of the code?
How much does this cost to repair
Are you looking to have it done? or do it yourself?
To anyone watchin, and or readin the comments, I had a P1130 code and I changed the mass airflow sensor, problem solved. I got a MAF for like $45 bucks online...
Dam just changed one n I got that code after I replaced it did a relearn n cleared code keeping my fingers crossed is not the ecm n code stays off
Hey i have 01 maxima w same problem. R u anywhere near nyc / nj ?
What do you think bout just cleaning it ?
You can clean the throttle chamber. But it won't help this issue if you are experiencing it.
@@FixyourNissan do you think IAM better off just leaving it alone ? IAM at a lost she runs an drives fine ... Figured cleaning couldn't hurt
@@snowfall1771 Do you have a P0505 Code?
@@FixyourNissan is it safe to reuse old gasket ?
Or you can call your Nissan or Infiniti dealer with your vin number and have them give you the part number for the Ecm you need
I'm a little short on cash right now, do you know how much each part costs?
Is it a I30 or Maxima 2000 or 2001?
where r u located? I would like to see if u could relearn mine nissan maxima 2001 gle
Keisha Jenkins I am in NJ
Will a clogged iacv burn out your ecm
Joshua Romero A clogged IAC will not burn out the Ecm
Curious because I'm ecm is burnt and my solenoid and harness were melted together . Do you belive the coolant could have leaked In the valve
My ecm
If you have a P0505, it's a Automatic, Ecm and IAC
What scanner are you using here
This is a scanner we use at the dealer. But this scanner is now discontinued. So the Laptop scanner is the new scanner
How did you get that hose off the throttle so easily? Mine is stuck and I’m trying to get it off without breaking it.. @fixyournissan
Which hose? How many mins into the video is it?
FixyourNissan the one you loosened on the throttle at 2:35
That intake tube to the throttle chamber?
FixyourNissan yes it’s stuck to the throttle
I'm looking for it to get done by the dealer
Unesseacry cleaning it worked but problems coming back now prms race in park instead of drop shame car runs good spot of money into it
I don't want to mess with my ecu 😔
If you do not send the Ecm out for Repair and Replace the IAC both at the same time. You will never get ahead of this issue
@@FixyourNissan I believe ecu is fine
@@snowfall1771 I would send it out to be checked. This is such a common thing to be damaged. That if you spend the Money on a IAC and the Ecm is bad. You are bad to square 1
i noticed u said ur in nj can u possibly come fix mines
+BossmanENT Normally I would have no problems doing that. But right now I will not be able to due to personal issues...
contact info ? i am in NY and need repairs on my Nissan 2001
FixyourNissan contact info, I am in Washington state and I need repairs on my maxima 01.
