- We usually Relate Maruti Suzuki with small, fuel-efficient, and low-maintenance cars that don't offer much performance,
However, once upon a time, Suzuki built a D-segment car that was fast, luxurious, and really safe which is very unlikely in any recent Suzuki cars we are getting in INDIA
However, Kizashi only lasted for 4 years, and due to abysmal sales Suzuki not only discontinued it but also disappeared from Whole,
But what was the reason behind it?
Well, let's find out in the Video.

As a youngster I was always really impressed with the way Kizashi's exterior looked... Especially the rear design seemed so muscular and I always used to look twice whenever I saw one on the road.
Even the much newer so called superfast sedans in india like Virtus, Slavia and Verna cant beat Kizashi's rear looks
@@anumeetsingh6218 Although looks are subjective... I totally agree with you 💯
@@TheTwinPost yea man, I know its a stupid comparison but it has that uncanny resemblance with the holy grail of cars i.e. Aston Martin DBX
@@anumeetsingh6218 Wait... Why does this makes sense 😂
@@anumeetsingh6218 virtus ,slavia aren’t come in the segment these are mid-size sedan. kizashi is one segment upper segment.
Kizashi was my daily drive for 4 years. Everything was brilliant about this car till parts began to give way. With the money I spent on this car I could have easily bought another small size car. But still Kizashi has a place in my heart.
are spares available here now or we need to import? Is it a good idea to get a kizashi used now?
@@anuranjnirmal Spares are rarely available with Maruti or Boodmo. Even direct imports are priced out. It would be bad idea to buy used one now, even at throw away price.
Especially since all cars are atleast 10 years old and need to be scrapped soon because of the sad govt policy.
I had to sell my sx4 for the same reason. It was still(15 year old) better than most modern "BUDGET" cars under 7-8 lacs and had a bigger engine.
@@kushagraN we dont have that issue here yet. Retest is allowed and can get fitness extended to 5 years.
@@anuranjnirmal Sadly this doesn't apply to delhi.
Heck the bastards of traffic police even picks up parked vehicles if someone reports them.
Now everyone will share their fake story with this car to look cool

I was the 1st owner of Kibashi in India ... still have it till date ... now I only use it when I travel to Himachal or Uttarakhand for trekking and vacations ... it is so powerful that I makes the current day SUV look like toy cars ..... man I love my Kitashi
@@user-gr3tg2yk6o-24_डफ़कbro you cannot even write the correct name of car and telling that you have kizashi
Kizashi was my favourite design at that point of time. I still remeber the first time I saw its photos out from Delhi Auto Expo and its pictures in the Newspaper....It was out of the world from Suzuki and that too for India....I also had the opportunity to see it on road once....Awesome machine from Suzuki....Too ahead for its time.
I don't believe you.
Kidding😅😅. Looks like you hav experienced only cars from Suzuki Company. Open your eyes and explore other brands too.
Fantastic content.. Very happy to see someone talk about this forgotten gem from Suzuki. And spot on with ur analysis. The only thing which killed this car was the brand image associated with Suzuki. People could never even imagine that a company which makes small, cheap and economical cars can actually make something like this which could actually give a Honda Accord a run for its money! But then, this wasn't the first experiment from Suzuki in India. They had also launched a proper SUV (the original Grand Vitara XL7), which came with a 2.8L V6 petrol engine which was a beast back in the day! But unfortunately that car flopped as well!! Hope u make a video about that car as well.....😊
They did learn from those mistakes and have created a new branding technique with NEXA.
Ur actually wrong there.
This car was suzukis response to the honda civic and not accord.
This is a d segment sedan.
@@dranzergigs8333 Yaa. But for the price which Suzuki was asking for this one, it got it directly into the Honda Accord category.
Suzuki cars getting five stars safety ratings is something the new gen kids will never know. I heard somewhere that the SX4 was a toned down version of the Kizashi. Suzuki tried really hard to change their image with the Grand Vitara & the Kizashi but at that time, people couldn't digest Suzuki's ambitions. Thanks for reminding us about a gem from Suzuki.
SX4 and Kizhashi itself was designed by Italian Design bureau. As a result of Joint Venture between Suzuki and Fiat. There is a Fiat twin of SX4, that is called Fiat Sedici, This is the time when Fiat engines powering Suzuki cars really started. Also, later years Linea too has similarity with SX4. They were all designed by Italians. I drove SX4 a few months back. It felt similar in layout, visibility, window layout etc to my Fiat Linea.
I have used SX4 2011 model from 2015 to 2020 before purchasing Honda city. SX4 was seriously great car and my favorite till date
Swift dzire got 5 stars now
I own a Kizashi, and I'm a proud owner. The speed and performance of this car are truly impressive! The engine delivers a fantastic driving experience, making every journey a thrilling adventure. Suzuki really nailed it with the Kizashi!

The scrappage policy won't allow that.
Bro don't
It will be impossible to find spare parts
It's very rare to find one
You won’t.
Pricing killed Kizashi. For anyone who wants to buy used one should know that Maruti imports each and every spare part of Kizashi and OG Grand Vitara directly from Japan. Not a single part is manufactured in India. Which means that spare parts are available, but extremely expensive.
Agreed
See the video completely, it was priced lesser than other luxury sedans, Suzuki's brand image and lack of marketing killed kizashi
Paddle shifters and cvt in 2008 is quite surprising for me. However i dont believe anyone would buy a Suzuki for that much money.
Honda Civic had those in 2005.
The OG Grand Vitara was a beast too with it's 2.4L NA petrol engine 🔥
true....
In my pov, the main reason why Kishazi failed was because Suzuki did not launch any vehicle to compete with Honda Civic/Toyota Corolla, thus jumping a whole segment. Their brand image did not command such a high price.
Good to see Kizashi again, you did a good job introducing it to people who weren't aware of it.
Thanks for including subtitles, and please continue the same as it's very helpful.
Every car company had made at least one car which was the pinnacle of their engineering limit but as life is not all days are the same. Sometimes it rains Sometimes it shines.
They were good cars but the people who liked them weren't able to afford them at that time & when they do they are discontinued.
Like Lexus LFA, Bentley, Volkswagen & many more... This Suzuki too.
The problem with Suzuki and Kizashi is lack of perseverance. They wanted to change years brand image with just one car and then gave up. They needed to stick to this plan for at least with a few car models before concluding it a success or failure.
Suzuki parent co is still in existence because of Suzuki India...they don't have much money...if they go bankrupt even Japan govt won't be able to bail them out as they have a 270% debt over their GDP!
So they're playing safe..
Perhaps with the current Toyota Collab they may bring out independent new cars in another decade
Let's see🤞
You know better than a company CEO??
Do you even understand how hard it is to make car brands and and even after becoming a successful car brand you know how hard for them to take a major shift if they are already making money from one strategy..
The automobile industry is no joke. One wrong move and even a well established company can be bankrupt...
Hirotoko ono,the man who was destined to lead Suzuki globally unexpectedly passed away..He was groomed to be the successor of the brand. So Osamu suzuki returned as the head of the company. Also the partnership with VW in europe and GM in US failed.Only their fiat parnership in India worked.. Also Osamu always cared about small cars.So there was a shift in the company policy when he returned as head. Now its his son Toshihiro leading the company..But he is also kind of conservative like his father. But at a time when the automobile industry is witnessing some big changes its not easy for a company like Suzuki to survive..So obviously some cost saving measures are taken like pulling out of Moto GP and not to invest in diesels , saving unnecessary expenses..Also their partneship with Toyota a trusted partner unlike the western companies was a strategic move and may help them sail through the challenges of current automotive scenario..
@@user-jn7bq8wh1e but Suzuki and Maruti is different
Hmm. It seems Tata understood this and hence made multi-year plans with stop gaps products.
"on the older era... there was no replacement for displacement" what a great quote 👍🏻
Kizashi was ahead of time performance car from Suzuki during the tough financial period. A friend purchased it with my help and thus I got to drive it too. Powerful, fuel guzzler if one used its power and made many D-segment cars eat dust. Sadly Suzuki withdrew its support and it's still with my friend driven with nostalgia....
One more issue with the car (in India, and probably across the world as well) was that spare parts were not available locally and for any issue, the part had to be imported which used to take a month min. This added to concerns of the buyer.
You were wrong in one point. Suzuki cars are very popular in European countries. I've seen personally that Suzuki Swift is an extremely popular car in European countries like France, Switzerland etc. also the wagon r is also popular.
My dad bought kizashi back in 2010 now sometimes i drive it.. i beat BMW 3 series in drag race..😬
Great engine performance makes it legendary.
Take my money and give me your car
Good old days when there were so many good luxury sedans were available in the market like Kizashi,Cruze,Octavia,Superb,Jetta,Passat,Civic, Corolla
😍😍 Cruze
They should launch Kizashi again under the Nexa name with a hybrid variant(Atkinson cycle Hybrid variant)!!!
Then watch it defeat Honda City and Toyota Camry!!!
They will never launch... Elantra, civic, Corolla jeseh car discontinued already due to no sales..toh yeh Kizashi kya karehga..
I still remember how big a fan I was about this car! Golden days when I used to wait for my auto india magazine to see this car✨❤️
This and old Grand Vitara were my favourite Suzuki car ever

That's deep 😢
As a kid , i used to love seeing this bombshell on the road and used to sketch up kizashis on my drawing book in school and in my school bus . I also used to be unhappy with the fact that they were so rear to come across . As an artist i totally get why this car didnt do good in the markets as the mass often do tend to overlook great artwork and get hyped over mid ones . Thats just how mass psychology is
I used to love this car when I saw magazine adverts but still think their timing in the market could have been better. It was simply too expensive at the time for us to buy but looked really cool.
I used to dream about this car but the price was still very high at that time. If it was not an import they could have priced it below 12-13 lcs like Elantra.
CBU and less mileage were the primary reason I think not many Kizashi were sold.
It was a very good car, but unavailability of spares was a big problem..
I have seen Suzuki's Kizashi two-three times, it was a very nice car.
Man this car looks and sounds so cool , the overall style features and name of the car is just really cool
This was the only case I am aware of where the audience was wrong and not the company. If this car received good numbers, it would have been the direction Suzuki could've headed.
In my childhood, growing up I was very fascinated by cars (as we didn't have any).
So, I used to collect all the car pictures from newspapers and magazines sometimes from school library. I saw the car Kizashi the concept-1 red colored one, and I was awestruck to its looks.
I was naive enough to not understand that these are concepts and not for production but I felt that this car is going to be seen on the roads and it'd be crazy. I loved the looks so much so that only car from that collection I can now remember is this Kizashi concept1.
Then by age this collecting habit phased off and a couple of years later, when I saw Kizashi on the roads in India I still loved the cars looks and it had special place in my heart (till this day)
I used to do the same thing with the newspapers, in fact I had a diary full of pictures of cars, and even the Kizashi.
My fist Palio 1.6 real sports gives me mileage of 6.5 to 7 in cities. I never complain. On long highways it gives me 13… on short highways (about an hour) it gives me 11.
I am still driving it. I bought new in 2006 when everyone told me not to. I liked the looks, the engine sound and true 100bhp. Note that VVT engines are not true power engines. They are more like 70bhp in lower rpm and gives 100bhp only in high rpms.
I think kizashi looks killed it. It just doesn’t look like performance car. Also, launch year was unlucky.
Best car of Suzuki.... Ye jab launch hui thi tab se hi lgta tha k ye bhot zabardast car h same as cruze... Aur ye video dekh k ab yakeen ho gya h
I highly suggest you to make video on the OG grand vitara too....back in the days it was also a much quality vehicle but was underrated like kizashi... Btw always get to know something new from your videos, good luck!
Bhai in a 11.18 min video you kept talking about how great this car was for 10mins and mudde pe akhri ek minute mein aaye....zabardast
noboby expected a giant like this from Suzuki ... market wasn't ready for this..
the setback was so strong that even with Jimny they couldn't. muster courage to come out of its image
I thought That time in India people were not very much confident on coslty suzuki cars , only after brezza and s cross the mind set changed
I was one of the proud owners of the Kizashi, back in 2010-11. I completely agree with all the things that you say. It was truly a luxurious high end car, which was both delightful to drive and to travel in the back seat! As you rightly point out, people were not willing to accept that Suzuki could produce a high end sedan which could compete with Toyota and Honda. Unfortunately, an idiotic and rash driver banged into my parked Kizashi at high speed and destroyed it. I have driven many cars over the past 50 years and I would rate the Kizashi as one of the best cars I ever owned. Thank you for bringing back some lovely memories 😊
New dzire from side and back does carry little touches from kizashi i feel!❤
This was a proper well built sedan by Suzuki, quality of the vehicle was similar to Corolla, Camry by Toyota. I later read that it was made in Japan and imported here that's why the quality was good. Sad that people didn't appreciate it. Very few people bought it back in the day.
Well there is a huge difference between appreciating a car and buying that car for yourself.
As most people buy a car 3-4 times max in their lifetime and for these types of purchase you go for a tested and reliable option...
I'm pretty sure even if Suzuki will launch a good sedan in the mid to high segment they won't buy a Suzuki sedan even if they nailed it...
I have personally worked on this machine while I was working in a Suzuki workshop this car came for repairs and regular servicing. Omg this is beast trust me.
Huge tires huge disc brakes. I remember vividly.
Suzuki took kizashi, made a race car and took it to Bonneville salt flats for top speed run. It did 300km/hr
My jiju (brother in law ) own this car . This car is really fabulous. The comfort Is like next level . It was a Audi of its time . Really a fabulous car . And the power is insane . 😊
Suzuki should bring this back again 1 more time...
As you mentioned we also got this car in Pakistan, I remember that in 2016 Suzuki discontinued it & I became disheartened as even of today whenever I see this car it just stands out. The shape is so timeless like I've spent hours wondering how did the engineers design it so perfectly.
But at the same time we have to keep in mind that most of the buyers keep few things in mind. Resale, maintenance & fuel consumption. Ofc being a new car One couldn't be so sure of its resale, maintenance-wise it was a suzuki so it was reliable but parts were expensive considering the emblem of the car. Fuel consumption was neither bad or good as it was in the category of camry & Accord so the consumption was more or less the same.
Now as most of the buyers tend to be in the middle class, the car at that time was priced @ round about 6M pkr, in the same amount you could've gotten an A4, 1.8tfsi. And almost 2 Accords or Camrys. So imo it's pricing was the reason it had to be discontinued.
I hope Suzuki comes out with such a bomb car in future as it still has place in hearts of many.
my cousin worked in suzuki dealership...he still says that kizashi and grand vitara was a car that was so good but nobody appreciated it. I still remember he used to say it was a total game changer.
A few months back when I saw this car in real life at first i thought I saw a desire but looked closely and realised it's completely another thing which I was unheard of.
I really liked the car even though it was old.
Good things are only meant to be remembered after they are gone i guess.😅
Kizashi and Grand Vitara were ahead of their time. They were beasts not just vehicles.
once i saw a tuned Kizashi and there was a spoiler mounted on it... it was so cool to me that i became obsessed with it and started looking up for other good cars from suzuki
suzuki should come again with kizashi with a new brand name, such that brand image don't affect sells
It's a legend forever. Noone can deny this fact. The 2 exhaust pipes coming out of it in the rear was itself a signature mark of this Gem 💎
What a lovely piece of beauty and performance ❤❤❤
This car was way ahead of its time. I would buy this if it’s launched again
As a youngster, it was my dream car (realistic dream car). Felt so bad to hear that it flopped.

This and type 2 Laura were way ahead of their time. I had a 1.8TSI Laura and it was just plain rocket!
Once upon a time I saw a red Kizashi in a newspaper advertisement when I was small. It was a beautiful car for me to see as a kid from Suzuki when we used to fancy the names of Mercedes and BMW. That image still remains in my mind till date...
Suzuki Kizashi and Chervolet Cruze will always be a Love for those who love full size Sedan car's and Really they are The lost gems of Their time❤❤😊 I wish we could have their new generation... But it seems impossible

Dude i was just searching about this car just 3 days earlier randomly, when we got our car in 2011 i saw this car in showroom it was such a nice car,it was packed with so many features im so happy that i had a chance to sit in this car although it was a non affordable car ,some of its shadows can be seen in sx4 older model ❤
It went on a discount of 5 lakhs later i guess in year 2013
Yes, I did appreciate this car. I was wondering why Maruti could not sell it.
SX 4 was also was not known for good mileage. It survived longer than this car.
THE WAY U EXPLAIN IS SO SOOTHING AND ZERO DRAMA
When you asked the question @1:10, I guessed the answer and I was right. Suzuki's main enemy is Suzuki itself. It will be extremely difficult for Suzuki to break the image of small car manufacturer. May be, they should have done very aggressive advertisement. Maybe they should have given first 5-6 free through lottery or to few selected celebrities. Maybe they did, do not know, never heard about this car before.
It may be completely unrelated, but I just remembered how Kellog was persistent in making cornflakes popular in India. It probably took a decade to do so. Kellog definitely was very strong financially and they were steadfast, and their product had/has some value, which they believed strongly.
It was stunning i remember this car when maruti used to advertise in newspaper whole last page covered with Kizashi..
Saw these on road only hand full of times ..
Even marketing plays an important role when it comes to launching your halo/flagship cars. Audi nailed this formula with the R8 and look where they are now. Kizashi and Nano failed for this reason, along with company image.
I was also told that the car was launched with many frilled features which were actually aspirational for the Kizashi buyers. They wanted to keep the price competitive at 18L instead of predicted 22-23L. This further dissuaded the buyers and they stuck with their beloved brands instead of giving chance to a newbie. This was Maruti style kicking in after great concept on the paper.
This and the OG Grand Vitara were the real Suzukis.
You are right, because of the brand image Kizashi didn't get famous. This was the one of the good management case studies that the mindset of maruti Suzuki as an organisation that only fuel efficient cars will get famous in India was wrong. So they have come with NEXA as a separate brand name to launch some different cars in India in the luxurious segment in India. You can search about why Maruti Suzuki has launched NEXA separately.
Kizashi was a wonderful car built with a lot of emotions by a company to prove their worth. People rejected it because they did not perceive the brand image to be worth the price of the car. Another similar story to unfold was the VW Phateon. Both cars were gems in their own right but did not sell because they were unable to convey the developers sentiments to the customers.
Nice Info!
You can make a short video on "Segments of Cars" like D-Segment you used in this video. Many people are unaware of it.
I feel bad for kizashi. Such a gem at it's time didn't get enough recognition. Biturbo did a good job in bringing it up.
I loved this car when it was launched.
Excellent machine.
I had blue colour kizashi in new zealand in year 2016.
It was the best car ever. Fast and good looking.
I always loved the Kizashi. Though at that time it was beyond me. Thanks for covering this.
I owned a Suzuki Kizashi and loved it's performance. I got a mileage of 10kmpl in the city and 10.5 on highway during long drives. Yes the car had some draw backs however I personally feel it was better than the Honda Accord. I hope Suzuki plan to relaunch this car again with more features. I am willing to share my experience with Suzuki Japan.
Kizashi owner here. I've owned every car in this segment and the Kizashi far surpasses all of them. Only problem nowadays is the parts availability and pricing, its more expensive to maintain than my BMW 530d.
Suzuki kizashi and Grand Vitara (old version) were imported.
The same Happened with AlturusG4😢
I was at service center with my Dzire, I saw the Kizashi, grey Color, it was love at first sight ❤❤❤😊
10:46 Truly Own your point… Just Like Ford Ecosport!!
The ad at 3:55 where the hayabusa transforms is just pure badass
Really want Kizashi back
Kizashi was my dream car, but way out of my budget at that time. Maybe that is why I ended up buying SX4 1.6. It looks like toned down Kizashi from outside. I still own it and enjoy it.
This car was ahead of its time. Of Suzuki launches second generation, sales will be beyond imagination. Even sky isn’t the limit
The vehicle which directly impresses people in term of design and timeless elegant looks after,
Suzuki Hayabusa,
Is this one the Kizashi, the true blue Japanese CBU beauty which may not impress the Mileage bois but can give a tough competition to Euro vehicles who were selling their sub standard and old cars in those time but Suzuki sold their actual international model at the same time or in a 6 month difference in all market,
Basically new vehicle in all market at same time,
But everyone got the Suzuki AWD model while we got the FWD model overall,
But due to slowdown and slow recovery of the economy this beautiful vehicle sale was damaged and wasn't made to continue thereafter,
But still this vehicle after Hayabusa is striking to look at and properly Suzuki overall,
Ohh god!! I was in serious love with that concept 2 & 3. I use to check daily online will they ever produce that. But to my disappointments, it was not the way i was expecting. It was good but look wise disappointed me a lot. Left the idea of buying that time & settled for civic
This is still my favourite sedan (including octavia)
This car was before its TIME !
