3 years later and I’m in the same boat. Playing this on ps4 and I have raged so hard lol. No clue how I did a lot of these missions and time trials as a kid. Super difficult as an adult.
I hated this mission and didn't have enough Dark Eco for Dark Jak. But what worked for me was just using the hoverboard on the timber planks and just avoid the water. You're fast enough to get past the dropships, your only worry is falling into water. And it worked. Screw this mission
1. Attempts to do the mission normally fails 2. tries to do the mission normally again with a different approach fails again 3. Tries to use the Vulcan Fury all the way through fails again 4. Gets impatient it attempts to punch through the crimson guard fails again 5. Tries to do the mission normally fails and throws the controller across the room
Oh, that's a good idea. I haven't played this game in a while but I never thought just hang back and shoot until the KG vehicle flies away. That laser it shoots if you get too close is very difficult to avoid.
When i was younger this was the first game i got on ps2. Got up to this part after playing it constantly and could not beat this mission at all. That was it for Jak 2 for me
As a kid I was stuck here for A REALLY LONG TIME. I remember running upstairs in the middle of the night waking my mom up because I so happy to finally beat it ! Dark jak is a big help here just don't go crazy and fall in the water. Shoot and MOVE shoot and MOVE !!
Recently got to this mission after re-playing Jak 2 a few days ago and MANNNN this still causes me pain. I barely made it to the end. I only had 1 hp left lol
You can actually just use the dive bomb with dark jak on the water and that will destroy the machine that kills you if you go in the water. Then you can use the hover board to go past all the guards
After dying 30+ times, I decided to just saw screw it and finish the mission via jet board from beginning to end. I died another 10 times until I actually beat it. Never has a game frustrated me this hard.
I finally got past this extremely difficult mission by doing it the way it was intended. if i had known about the jet board trick, i could have saved myself about literally 100 tries and around two hours of my life. I just got past it, and I'd say that it was the hardest mission in the game thus far. If there is a harder mission than this, I'm throwing this game in the garbage.
My problem when doing this was that I was way too obsessive. I made a point of trying to kill every guard and get every clip of ammo because I thought if I fought long enough that eventually the guards would stop coming. This wasn't true though because the devs set up triggers where guards would infinitely spawn. I thought this mission was a test of patience, but it just made me rage because each attempt felt like it took at least 30 minutes. This mission wouldn't even be such bullshit if you didn't die in 4 hits. The life bar is deceiving because most enemies take off 2 bars on your 8 bar health meter. The other thing I really hate is the layout of the city. It has so many windy roads and 90 degree turns that the driving missions are super frustrating. Also, traffic is slow so your momentum will keep you crashing into walls and other cars. I don't care how many people say Jak 2 is a classic, I still think Jak 1 was way better. Jak 2 would have been better if they kept it free roaming and didn't include the super difficult mission structure you need to complete to progress. The thing I liked about Jak 1 was that there were multiple ways to win. If one thing was too hard, you could just try something else. You weren't required to do everything like you are in this game. Also, the atmosphere was way too edgy for my taste. It felt like a complete 180 that didn't fit the Jak series at all. When I look at this game, I can't help but feel like Naughty Dog fucked up their franchise by trying to rebrand it. The things I do like in this game are the weapons and the hoverboard. It makes the game easier and I think more fun. You don't have to rely purely on melee attacks or eco powerups anymore, which is nice. The hoverboard is also a lot faster than walking and is available when there are no cars around, so it's convenient.
I was stuck on it for while. My tip is shoot on your the map randomly when the enemies are coming. When they look at you. Shoot kinda far. Run and gun. Don't get close to the enemy ships. Don't fall in the water. Keep moving.
I honestly thought my game was glitched because of how hard this mission is. I'm trying the punching method but I still keep dying. Although I do get really close sometimes.
You can actually hoverboard the whole way, if you constantly jump with the hoverboard you can control where you're going and be faster than all the crimson guards they drop. That's how I've just done it. God knows how I did this as a kid though
I Vulcan’d through the first 3 ships (was getting hit too many times punching at the start and was an expert at the beginning due to me dying so many times) and then switched to the punch method after the first 3 ships. Worked like a charm. Got my plat about an hour ago.
I find the punch and Jetboard methods to be more difficult than the intended method. For the punch method you’re in constant danger of taking damage from the gunships due to their pinpoint accuracy no matter how far you get passed them. The Krimzon Guards jumping on you as they get out doesn’t help either. The Jetboard method is the least useful. At least with punching I almost beat the mission on my 4th attempt. With how small and rigid the bridge is in addition to the amount of civilians and Krimzon Guards, it is very easy to lose momentum or fall into the water. Jak also gets off of the Jetboard everytime he bumps into one of guards making him susceptible to gunfire. I may have died on the first attempt doing this legitimately, but it was only because I got careless.
just shoot the guards with the rifle until the dropship flies away (yes the guards do have a spawn limit) and then go forward. it only gets hard after the first ship because you then have guards shooting you from multiple angles
Tried to be tactical, take out the guards as they come but failed again and again. Just punch punch and pucnh and roll jump when there's room. It worked.
This is amazingly difficult mission, perhaps the hardest in Jak 2. But you can beat it if you learn the right pattern to go trough. Don't rush, always shoot behind you, and concentrate really really hard. While being calm, this mission is hell lot of easier. I don't understand how some people are stuck in this mission, or how they quit Jak 2 because of this. I did fail this more than 20 times, perhaps more than 30 tries on my first play time, but it was worth of it. Totally.
It was this mission and the mission in Jak 3 where you need to protect Jinx from Erol's newly mass produced Krimson Death Bots which have been reprogrammed to kill Haven Civilians instead of Metal Heads like they were originally programmed for in Jak 2. Jinx is trying to cut the excess power to Erol's Floating Fortress where the Death Bots are being churned out. Once the power is cut, Jak and Daxter can then break thru the defensive shielding to go destroy the fortress and 86 Erol who is planning on using the Dark Eco to bio-engineer newer stronger metal heads.
I found the best solution to this. At first I tried the normal way but I kept dying. Then I tried the punching way bit still kept dying. But I noticed when I played the normal way I wasn't taking that much damage until the end and when I tried the punching way I mostly took damage in the beginning. So I tried playing the level the normal way about halfway and then punching the rest of the way. And it worked on my second try.
Guys! I found the best way to beat this, it sounds stupid, but all you have to do is punch! Just press square repeatedly and navigate to the dot on your map. i got it on the first try and only got hit once!
damn the punching method actually worked for me! (playing ps4 remastered). what helped was doing the uppercut punch to avoid the ship turrets, and timing it to the moment their lasers lock on (where possible). i was skeptical to try it this way but damn i got it right after like 2-3 tries. compared to the "stop n gun" approach which got me killed like 25-30 times
I WAS LIKE A COUPLE STEPS AWAY AND THE GAME FROZE, THEN I AFTER 50 MORE ATEMPS I WAS ANOTHER COUPLE STEPS AWAY BUT THIS TIME I FELL IN THE FUCKING WATER
oh my god... u sir are a god for making it passed this without getting hit once. ive spent about 3 hours so far, maybe more trying to get passed this. and i wish i had dark jak now cuz i tried the jetboard thing and died haha so i guess im screwed seeing as how they dont give off dark eco. just keep tryin.... oh and btw its easier to pick up ammo thats scattered if u spin by them instead of trying to walk through them.
For those who quit the game because of this mission, PLEASE don't let it stop you. This was one of the best games and storylines to ever be on the PlayStation, period. I miss when games used to be like this 💔😭
See here’s my problem, he kills those first two, then goes back and hangs that left and continues on. I do that, and while I’m fighting the 3rd ship full after I make that left, and the 2nd ship keeps respawning and it continues on like that. At one point there gets to be so many, around the part where on the map it’s a small square and you can choose to go right or left, and a dark eco bomb doesn’t take them all out and I still get absolutely swarmed
I like to imagine the reason Jak II didn't have the Daxter death banter is because most people would find them insulting and annoying, considering you do die quite a lot in this game.
This took me so many tries on my first playthrough that I nearly broke my controller. I just started replaying it, and I got through it on my second try. I got so worried for nothing. I used to hover board both times. I don't know if practice makes perfect or I just got lucky...
finally beat this mission after a few deaths holy hell. i got near the very end with 2 hp left. it took the game a second to trigger and end the mission. such a frustrating mission lmao
I've been replaying Jak II, and I was caught completely off-guard by this mission. Normally, I make sure I have enough dark eco to go dark Jak, hop in the water, do a dark bomb, then hoverboard safely to the exit. Unfortunately, that's not the case now, and now I'm stuck having to try to actually be good at a videogame. ;_;
I also happen to be on it right now (and I can't explain either how I succeeded in it many years ago). It's the hardest mission. But there is a trick I'm trying: Get the Dark Giant power, skip the first electric fence and kill all the flying krimzon guards. Then you only have to kick the last 40 guards out.
Listen to this guys. I was so frustrated with just shooting with this mission that I took that hover board and rode it on the wood as fast as I could Mirror's Edge style. Sure I fell in the water plenty of times but once I got the balance and the pattern down, I was out of that bitch! W00T Though it sucks I couldn't beat it by shooting the guards...
holy crap. I think I punched my way out of this as a kid but I'm playing the ps3 remastered and going through the comments, a lot of people kept saying to punch your way out and it works! I made it through without getting hit on my second try ( first try I accidentally fell in the water XD lol ). I tried shooting my way out and doing exactly wt he did in the video but it didn't work. Vulcan fury ammo kept running out and kept getting shot from all directions, the sad Part is that I saw the end but was nowhere near it plus low health I knew I wasn't gonna make it. but yeah for anyone still stuck the punching method works just be careful not to fall and also be careful not to get stuck cause the wooden platforms are kinda messed up. punch through civilians and fat men if you have to LOL. good luck everyone and good luck on the ps4 remastered
bro, thanks alot :) i've got it now, just stay close to the flying cars, spray and pray, and if you notice guards from behind or other corners get close, just shoot without turning camera ^^
my tactic is to just keep jumping and shooting the guards infront making sure not get into he radar of the ships, the guards wont hit you and just ignore the enemies behind
I've just started playing this last week after completing the first game and I believe how fucking brutally difficult this game is. I've tried this mission over 100 times.
The only way I got through this one was by non stop punches while watching the map so I wouldn't make a wrong turn. It was quick, painless, and didn't require buying a new controller afterward.
Tried the punching method a bunch and it didn't work for me. Obviously trying the jet board is too tedious, so I'd rather try this method. Might take longer, but you'll get done with less headache.
This mission broke me. I tried soo many times. But thanks to the comments here I used dark bomb in the water and then took the jetboard to fly over the water to the other side.
The trick is to puch your way trough everything in your way keep pushing forward and you win in one or two trys and don't fire a single bullet that will get u killed 😂😂😂😂😂
They occasionally hit me, but I just swerve left and right and jump up and down a lot to avoid those and the guards. I used the spin thing on the board to both get speed and stun the guards.
This mission was super hard, idk why the devs had to make this game difficult af but managed barely after an hour of using the jet board, the npcs took the piss too xD
used my hoverboard..took me few tries but WAY less than I used to kill all the troops..I always died probably just before the last drop ship..but w/ hoverboard its piece of cake
there is an easier way to get past this. u need full dark jak. use the dark bomb(the x then [] thing) in the water. the thing will die and u can use ur jetboard to make it across(or swim)
I just used the hoverboard to outrun the guards on the wood bridges. I fell in the water a lot cause of dead ends, but once u fin the correct route, it becomes easy.
@GodsGuy9795 if you dont have dark echo, you can pass it with the board going trought the docks (no on the water...) is gonna take a few tries, but after 5 or 6 times, you are gonna make it...
"All we had to do, was get out of the damn water slums jak!"
This is literally the Jak equivalent of that mission and the "Less is More" challenge in Deadlocked 🤣🤣🤣
How I did this when I was younger is beyond me. I’m playing this mission now on ps4 and it’s so damn hard I’m getting so angry
3 years later and I’m in the same boat. Playing this on ps4 and I have raged so hard lol. No clue how I did a lot of these missions and time trials as a kid. Super difficult as an adult.
Dark Bomb the water, than just use the bord to escape over the water.
I was 13, dying from sickle cell when I completed this.... HOW?! xD
It's harder on the ps4. The ships don't stop coming. I think the ps4 can just have way more going on... woohoo😒
It pisses me off how easy you made that look lol

This mission would have been easy if the guards weren’t infinitely spawning or there were no submarines in the water.
Or if the laser didn’t take all your health instantly
The only way I got through this one was by non stop punches while watching the map so I wouldn't make a wrong turn. It was quick, painless, and didn't require buying a new controller afterward.
Tank you so much that worked lol
Oh my god thank you! I finally beat the damn thing on my third try with punching
Theres a easier way, its using your gun lol
OMG Thanks for your help
Ap3xpr3dat0r NO just no NO !
Tried the punching method a bunch and it didn't work for me. Obviously trying the jet board is too tedious, so I'd rather try this method. Might take longer, but you'll get done with less headache.
Hell yeah! I did that too! I did not have the patience to just stand there and get shot at. lol
This mission broke me. I tried soo many times. But thanks to the comments here I used dark bomb in the water and then took the jetboard to fly over the water to the other side.
Jump + spin + shoot really helpz
I thank you for giving me an idea on how to beat this, now i'm past this mission so again thanks.
I'm 23 years old and I'm stuck on this part of the game. I feel so useless... This guy in the video didn't even get hit ONCE!!!
I must say this might be the 15th hardest mission in a video game. It wasnt as hard as people make it sound, but still pretty difficult.
Will Carlson you annoy me
used my hoverboard..took me few tries but WAY less than I used to kill all the troops..I always died probably just before the last drop ship..but w/ hoverboard its piece of cake
One of my favorite games of all time but this mission man. Had to cheese punch through it.
there is an easier way to get past this. u need full dark jak. use the dark bomb(the x then [] thing) in the water. the thing will die and u can use ur jetboard to make it across(or swim)
After my twentieth attempt I just used the jet board after the 3rd wave.
omg that worked for me thank you very much for your tip (I'm playing the HD/Trilogy version on the PS3)
This mission is harder than it seems, I think because people are not willing to embrace the autoaim.
I just used the hoverboard to outrun the guards on the wood bridges. I fell in the water a lot cause of dead ends, but once u fin the correct route, it becomes easy.
I did this mission in one go when i was 11
try it now and it still kicks my ass
@WonderTwin11 lol not in the water on the bridge cuz if you get on it fast enough all those things that bring the guards dont come earlie enough
What about the laser turrets on the dropships though?
Just did it after maybe 20-30+ tries! After watching your video of course. But I watched it once then after liks 6 tries I got it.
@GodsGuy9795 if you dont have dark echo, you can pass it with the board going trought the docks (no on the water...) is gonna take a few tries, but after 5 or 6 times, you are gonna make it...
Oh my god thank you this video helped me so much! With the shortcut and the use of weapons! :3
This mission becomes so easy if you just stay back and use the yellow rifle it kills 1 guard in 2 hits and the guards drop a crap ton of it's ammo
I just winged it and hoppend onto the hoverboard. That was no less bullshit though...
Yeah I did it with pcsx2 savestates, every time I cleared a corner jumping with the board id save lol
First I tried hoverboard-method but kept bumping from fat guys to the water but then I just used my gun and beat it easily
@KoolaidKILLa18 cool that will probably work really well too...I will have to try it out
