Winter Scenic Drive to Mount Cook National Park, New Zealand 4K

This was one of the best driving experiences I have had in this beautiful part of New Zealand. On 14 July 2022, I spent almost an hour touring NZ state Hi-way 8 and NZ State Highway 80. After a day of dumping of snow (12 July) I was so blessed to finally see blue skies and the stunning alps New Zealand's South Island had to offer.
The road to Mount Cook starts just outside of Twizel. It takes around 45 minutes to reach Mount Cook Village, but you'll probably spend longer on the journey because you'll enjoy the scenery around you. The road is fairly straight and easy to drive, although you may need chains if it has snowed recently.
Aoraki Mount Cook is the tallest mountain in New Zealand, and as such, is seriously impressive. There are tons of beautiful walks and hikes to do in Mount Cook National Park that lead to stunning viewpoints of Mount Cook and nearby glaciers.

Hi Kristie I didn't use snow chains. Road not slippery. Snow swept to the side. Just drive to condition.
