My name is the One, some people call me the Funk! It's definitely Skeet on bass, with Dennis Chambers on drums. Bennie Cowan, Greg Thomas and Greg Boyer on horns. Michael "Clip" Payne on background vocals. Larry Fratangelo on percussion. Bernie Worrell on keyboards. Lige didn't play bass for Parliament/Funkadelic in those days. He didn't start playing with the mob until the P-Funk Allstars days. RIP Garry "Starchild" Shider, Ray "Stingray" Davis and Mallia "Queen of Funk" Franklin.
Jeff Bunn is so underrated!! Cherokee is off the meat rack!!! I love his style!!! Pfunk is a way of life!! 4 sure!! I love the change on this!! They took it to another place!! pure perfection!! Ira T
Over a period of five or six years, Parliament Funkadelic dominated dance music. P-Funk had such a big following. The Monster Theme Songs: One Nation Under a Groove, Freak of the Week, FlashLight, Aqua Boogie, Theme From The Black Hole, The Big Bang Theory, Knee Deep 15 Minutes, and Atomic Dog. At 15 minutes, Knee Deep was one of the longest songs people danced to and got tired.

I was at those NY shows, a year earlier they played the Apollo Theatre for a whole damn month!! My boy and I crashed all those shows, even got onstage smoking weed with George and company. Shit u never forget!
on this song at two other live shows in 1981 they did the sir nose attack and changed star child into a FUNKY like the album cover. Full donkey head, real quick with a big light flash, it was great. Sir Nose and his whole gang on stage. the shows in Philly and NY. P-funk shows was the best times.

Yeah, I was at this tour. They played at the Santa Monica Civic here in LA on the Gloryhalastoopid Tour. They gave up the funk. Little known fact, George didn't plan on appearing on stage. He was planning to retire from touring to start the Uncle Jam label and manage the Parliafunkadelicment Thang. He planned to turn over the stage leadership to Garry Shider. He came out though, because everyone was screaming for George. No it's not Jeff "Cherokee" Bunn on bass, it is Skeet!
I know there are true die hard Funk fans here, Thanx NYRAD films, Thanks PFunk Nation. And thanks to all the True Funk fans for letting me be myself. Again. 🦾🐼
To settle this debate once and for all, go to "One Nation Under A Groove, Pt. 2," taken from this same show, and go to the 16-second mark. At that point there is no question as to who the bass man is.
Man my good friend and been argueing about this over 20.years. I told his its jam in my legs not nees. RIP CEE CEE CHOCOLATE CITY AND ITS VANILLA SUBURBS.
That's definitely Skeet on bass. Lige didn't even play bass on tour during the Parliament days. He sang backup. He didn't start playing bass on tour until long after they were touring as the P-Funk Allstars. Probably around 1987 or later.

i saw them a year earlier at the apollo in 1980, at the time i had been turned on to them by my black friend who lived in harlem, so i decided i was gonna check them out, i couldn't convince any of my white friends to come with me so i said FUCK IT!! I'M GOING!! i went by myself with an ounce of weed in my pocket this black chic sitting next to me adopted me for the night she saw i had some weed with me! funkadelic cameout at 90 miles an hour playing alice in my fantasy! i had never seen that intense a funky psychedelic tune and played by there must have been at least 25 guys on the stage i became a fan for life! and in a twist of fate over 20 years later i had a job working in an advocacy center in the old st theresa hotel which was right around the corner from the apollo! so sometimes the energy of life draws you to the same exact place over and over again since then i've had a thoroughly funky life that continues!
Yo, man ! I was there !! That was the Gloryhallasstoopid tour. This an the Anti- Tour were there best concerts. Do you remember a shadow of somebody's hand in the spot light and playing Pac Man with the MC's head ?? :D
nope but then again i had an ounce of weed in my pocket and i was also getting this black chic sitting next to me who had adopted me for the nite stoned! as well as myself but if you were there maybe you remember there was this one guy in the audience who had rolling papers that rolled out length wise!! so that he could have an extra long joint!! and that the brides were pretty cool too!!
i just realized. to the rap buffs out there. the beginning of the song has been sampled a lot. i cant remember from what songs...people gotta stop stealing from hidden greatness.

anyone know who is playing bass on this.... is it Lige Curry? there is no clip of the bassist buy if someone knows who was touring that be great. Cause it sure isn't Bootsy
No that is definitely that red jazz bass he is playing... That alembic he used to play had more growl and harmonics. Not taking nothing from that jazz bass. Still sounds good.

You probably already know this, but the Temps had respect for Ray Davis' bass, too. After Melvin Franklin died, Ray was the FIRST man to replace him.
I proudly state this is the first music I can remember from my childhood. Daddy raised us on this and the Gospel.

I’m playing the red Fernandes that I played on the Atomic Dog tour
That had to be HELL trying to recreate that synth bass on an actual bass guitar
All I can say is George Clinton Parliament Funkadelic was incredible salute to them… 👑👑
Definitely Rodney "Skeet" Curtis on Bass
All around the world , same funk!

Not true. Lige does bass on this tour. Just not on this particular clip.
I'm definitely gonna have to disagree. That definitely sounds like Skeet to my ears.
Yeah, that sounds more like Skeet than Lige. Lige didn't have those kind of chops.
