    You could have bought the ac clutch only it's available and a cheaper repair and much less work to do (bolts out bad clutch out nee clutch in bolts in) still great seeing how you diagnosed the problem all by yourself

    @SuperRon Thanks for all you do. I have a '08 Jetta 2.5 with a sanden compressor that cools very poorly, about 20 - 23C. I've scanned HVAC measuring blocks with VCDS and these are the most prominent values, Compressor Shut Off Code - 0.0, Compressor Load (5.7Nm - 6.7Nm), Refrigirant Pressure with AC on - (11.2bar - 12.2bar). Compressor is the type with a solenoid valve. What could be wrong?

    • @SuperRon
      @SuperRon  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching. It sounds like everything's working according to the measuring blocks. Are they all in spec according to the balloons on vcds?

    • @mynor100
      @mynor100 ปีที่แล้ว

      These values are with the AC on and average outdoor temperature of about 35C. I need to know if its a weak compressor or a faulty solenoid valve before spending more money 😭

    i have also a very weird problem, it cools but it cools very weak, and when i turn it off, it smells like wet dog and socks, have you ever got the problem.
    also A/C clutch repair is very rare these days here in Holland, most mechanics do the whole compressor.

    • @SuperRon
      @SuperRon  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Cooling weak is often a symptom of gas being low. Bad smell can be from bacteria build up on the matrix, you can get spray to squirt down your vents to cure this. Also check pollen filter is not wet

    This is a great DIY, although you butchered the old pump to see how it all connects, in essence all that is required is to remove the 3 screws and centre bolt to remove the outer section and then replace that on the existing one?

      I had a hard time finding a replacement too, all others seem to be the clutch type. Yes that would work welding the inner to the outer, probably have to make a little plate to go in between, not sure of long term effects on the pump not being cushioned, but it would work 👍

    I’m looking at buying a 2010 golf and the seller tells me the A/C needs to be regassed. I wonder if there is more to it, and this could be the same fault. Looking at the location, if using an inspection mirror, I should be able to see if the centre part is rotating. If it isn’t then has the same fault as yours. If it is rotating then, pressure sensor, faulty compressor or some other leak. I don’t have access to the fault finding gadget you showed before I buy though.
    What would you ask them to reduce the price by? They are asking £3500, and the private guide price is £3100

    • @SuperRon
      @SuperRon  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You should just be able to see with a little mirror and torch, as you see from the video the 2nd hand part was cheap but the job can escalate with the centre bolt snapping on both pumps I don't think it's possible to get it out whole. But as you also saw I made-do with a little weld. A new compressor would probably be £400-500 plus labour, plus regas, could get very expensive. Or it could most commonly just be out of gas

    • @user-kc1tf7zm3b
      @user-kc1tf7zm3b ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If the AC is not functioning, assume the worst that the compressor has failed which requires a replacement. In Australia, this is a major $1,200 expense which easily writes off any older car. 🚙 ❄️

      @@SuperRon Not entirely sure unfortunately I'm not at all clued up where cars are concerned. Prior to the AC failing it held gas for sure . I don't have a VAG com myself. Halfords said it was the compressor hence why I had it replaced but as I say that didn't resolve it . I'm told Halfords/quick fit etc is a fairly basic generic coding system. And it's climate control on the GTi so I'm told .
      Local VW dealer is saying £80 to diagnose and £161 hourly to work on it but I'm going to have to take the plunge to identify the issue at the very least, then take it from there.
