I have one that's slept on... I got the Canon R7 new for under 1k. It has IBIS, 10 bit 4:2:2, 4k 30 (and 60fps with a crop) C-log, AMAZING autofocus and subject tracking, and it's 32mp APS-C sensor on the RF which means Sigma budget f1.4 primes (once they are released soon) as well as lots of pro lens options. It's a beast for the price! What's your thoughts on the R7?!
@nigelbarrostoo it is too good to be true, 4k 60 is has a 1.81x crop on top of the apsc 1.6x crop making it worse than a m43 camera. The alternative is line skipped that looked worse than 1080p. Canon R mount also does not have much apsc lenses let alone any professional ones such as fuji's 16-55mm 2.8 and 50-140mm 2.8. Last summer we did a docu series with the r7 as a b cam to fujis xt4 - and the r7's clog did not hold up nearly as well as the flog coming out of the fuji I don't see any reason to get the canon r7 over a cheaper fujifilm Xt4 or a similarly priced sony a6700.
Agreed. I’ve had the R7 for a couple years now and it’s been an absolute work horse. I run the Sigma 18-35 primarily but I also have access to the Sigma 24-70 and it handles very nicely.
I was an early adopter on the NX1, was so excited for that camera and the idea of Samsung getting into the mirrorless game. That said I still have the camera and use it as a C-Cam/safety angle to this day. It's a beast of a little camera and has taken quite the beating from shoots and still keeps trucking. Wish Samsung hadn't abandoned the NX series.
I *just* got an A7iii , so it was interesting to hear this. I haven't used it for video AT ALL, but now you've said all that, I'll have to give it a peek.
Nigel, hello. Thank you for a very interesting rating. I would like to add the Lumix GH5S to it. But let me ask you a question: this is not the first time I’ve seen a quick-folding softbox in your studio. Could you tell us about it? This is an umbrella type softbox, right?
Z6 placing is a crime. It’s basically A7III with better ergonomics, colors, LCD and EVF, can also shoot 10 bit ProRES with a Ninja.. the amount of disrespect this camera gets to this day is beyond comprehension honestly.
Hi, what do you think of Canon R10? It is the older brother of Canon R50 and I am deciding to go for it over the Sony A7III as it shoots 10bit and 4k60.
I totally agree with the EOS R. I have one and use it daily….for photography. I occasionally shoot video with it but use my T6i more for video and you can’t tell the difference. Good call.
My problem with the blackmagic is the codec. Where I a main work out of FCPX there’s too many hoops I have to go through to edit . I’m honest not the biggest fan of Davinci Resolve
@nigelbarrostoo matrix glitch ig. Kinda dissapointing announcement still. Didn't even change the sensor. At least it got Log that at least is a win. Still it could be a steal if z50ii got ibis
The Lumix GH6 is the perfect example of what the other brands should have as a minimum after a certain price. As a Canon user, it hurts me so much that not even the R6MkII has internal RAW or similar, you have to go all the way up to the R5🤑🤑
@@nigelbarrostoo I only took photos and at the time it was cheaper than the GH5, but due to life's circumstances I ended up making more videos... it is still my main camera even today, at least until I manage to buy a GH7.
that's crazy, i almost added that but I kinda used a combination of MPB and eBay to see what the going used prices were and its still not super common to find an s5II for that price
Fun list. I bought my X-T4 for $875. I’d say S-Tier type purchase for sure. My next pick in the sub $1000 would probably EM1mkiii or G9. R7 would be interesting if there were better APS-C lenses. Seeing the G9ii and S5ii come close to the $1000 has been super exciting in the past couple of months lol. I might actually bite when they drop that low.
Definitely, its hard to beat the price to performance of cameras like the GH5,gh6 and bmpcc4k. BUT, for an extra couple hundred i do think the S5II used would be a better investment for sure

hol up, I'm gonna have to research that camera more, that sounds almost too good to be true

That was fun adding Lumix G9 for B-Roll would be my suggestion
oof I totally spaced on the OG g9
Oh you know Cole Altcine? He's a buddy oft mine as well. Writing a lot with him. He is awesome and just calls himself the laziest man in these UK 😂

there's also huge autofocus issues with X-T3 (at least in my case)

would u say a73 or save up for the a7s3 or zve1

Excuse me did you skip the GH3? Your baby? Your love child?
4k was part of the criteria :)
@@nigelbarrostoo ok ill let it slide
Thoughts on sigma fp? It’s maybe less readily available for under $1000 but it happens pretty regularly on eBay.
Yeah I considered that, but its not as easy to find under 1k so maybe I'll make a different tier list for cameras under 2k or something

wow actually I have the t6s this is insane to hear about the video
90% Lumix 10% everything else

Love your work! However theEos r produces amazing video! How can you put in the meh?
Not saying it doesn't, just compared to the other cameras, I wouldn't choose it, big crop in 4k and no DPAF. The 1080p is nice though
@@nigelbarrostoo Also, no overheating in cropped 4k.
Although not under 1000, with trade in program the G9 II is under 1100.
yeah even the s5ii can be found for around 1200 but I really tried to keep it at readily available cameras under 1k

mFT is just awesome for video.
