I had started collecting GIJoe ARAH in 1984. I was living in Wurzberg Germany at the time. My dad was a First Sergeant with the 3rd Marn Division based in the area with a main base with 12 small outpost scattered with one in town and the others scattered around the countryside so that each would have several acres of varying terrain training areas. The main base had a pretty large toy store with a separate entrance but attached to the back of the base department store known as the Post Exchange or PX. One day on the isle endcap and occupying half an isle were the GI Joe's, vehicles, and bases. I had enough money saved up from my allowance that I immediately got Snow Job, Snake Eyes, Gung Ho, Duke, hooded Cobra Commander, Cobra Trooper and Cobra Officer. Not even a week later I got the Vamp I, Laser Motorcycle and the Power Bear snowmobile. It was a few weeks before I got more. Next came Doc, Airborne, Spirit, Rock n Roll and Roadblock in one swoop. I was only able to get to the main base about 3 times a month. The elementary school and middle school were right next to the base along with some of the base housing for None Commisioned Officer ranked soldiers families. We lived out in town however. I had a 15 to 30min bus ride home every day depending on traffic. A block from home was the one tiny US outpost in city limits. Kitzigen Kassern was a Nazi outpost during the war and the US military simply scrubed/ground out the swastika on the concrete decorations over all the building doors and brick main gate archway. The German army had used it as a motor pool for Volkswagon jeeps, half Tracks, and Panzer 1 tanks. The US stationed a communications unit there that used Jeeps/HUMMVE, GMC Pickup trucks with camper like large radio units, 2 Ton 6 wheel drive trucks, very large strange looking trucks that had an articulating section with a 8 wheel drive front tractor and 6 wheel drive rear section with giant box communication systems these were called Dragon Wagons and were partially amphibious and Light Armored Fully tank tracked vehicles that had 2 inch thick shutters that would fold closed over the bullet proof glass with large swapable shipping container sized satalite communication units. Why do I mention all the vehicles? My intrest in GI Joe and buying the comic books at the tiny bookstore they had started to get me noticed by the soldiers. Being the only pre teen running around the post everyone there got to know me quick. The fist time there the gate guards did not want to let me in even though I had a military dependents ID. I told them I was going to the bookstore and the caffee to get a hamburger. To get on the base the first time I had to make them call my dad's office and have him order them to let me enter. They asked what unit to call. I said call the generals office and ask for Command Sargeant Major ott. They laughed and thought I was joking till my dad yelled at them. A note was immediately made and posted in the guard shack advising all guards to let me in. Eventually all the soldiers lobbied the bookstore manager to let me order Gi Joe's from the toy store and pay for in the tiny bookstore since I always knew exactly what I wanted and the toy store kept the ENTIRE toy line in stock.
Really wish you would continue with 1990-94. There’s still some good stuff during those years. At the very least you would have the most comprehensive GI Joe toy video on all of TH-cam.
Great video Ken. I've watched all the individuals, but I listened to this super supersized one while driving around for work. Love these toy history videos!
That was an amazing watch which brought me right back to my childhood. My first ever Gi Joe figure my parents bought me was Barbecue and I absolutely loved his orange outfit and helmet. Beach Head, Airtight and Cobra Viper are some other favourites of mine.

Your inspiration for delta 17 brought back that feeling of when I was younger rushing to the store to buy Delta17 figures instead of GIJoes. lol super excited to see what comes next and please do a kickstarter to get stuff rolling faster.
Well you don’t have a conflict of interest you just have tone of action figure interests. lol 😂 so always talk about Delta17 those figures are fantastic. They sparked my excitement for these figures even more because I could go to the local collectable store to buy them. I hope one day soon Walmart will pick up the line.
@@JoePal-c3n I have to admit, when I saw your video that you found them at Cobra Collectibles, it made me and Steve super happy to see a fellow collector walk into a store and pick them up.
This was epically awesome- thanks for putting it together! I really loved the Slaughter Daughter special touch! And I've seen a Star Wars custom Jawa Sandcrawler & it looks awesome! My cousin had tons of GI Joe, including the Defiant set which was our go to play set. I haven't talked to him in years, but he still had his toys somewhere.
This was a great stream! Except for that stand-alone Zap, from 83, I didn't collect Joes heavily till 85 to 90. Eel was my first Cobra. The Hydro Sled was my first vehicle. Lots of great memories!
I was born in '78, and throughout my childhood in the '80s, growing up in a lower-class household being the youngest of 3 kids raised by a single mother, I was only allowed to really delve into 1 toy line. For me, it was Star Wars, and then transitioning into M.A.S.K. once the Star Wars line had ended. But I still watched & enjoyed ALL the great toy line shows from that era. I'd get a few toys from other lines here and there, but Star Wars & M.A.S.K. were the main 2 that I had *_A LOT_* of. That being said, 36:30 Roadblock was the _only_ G.I. Joe figure that I had. And I only had him because a friend of mine had a double of him that he gave me, because Roadblock was my favorite character from the cartoon, as I too loved to cook(even at only 7 years old).

In 1984 living in Wurzberg Germany due to my dad's Army assignment I had been collecting GI Joe's from the base toy store. One day when I had gone downtown I was wondering around in the cities largest department store after buying a new pair of Addidas. I was wondering the toy area and found Action Force figures. I had never seen those before. I had to start buying those too and integrate them. Something else I saw and started buying I have never seen since I was buying them at that store. I found a line of toys articulated exactly like the ARAH Joe's but were not Action Force. The cards were written in German and looked just like the Joe cards with photos of avaliable figures and a cut out figure profile background. Difference was they were German, French, Italian and Spanish forces with it being the cold war of course Russian, Ukrainian, Yugoslavian, East German and Polish bad guys. For some reason I have NEVER seen these since and my dad donated ALL my toys while I was away at Marine Corp bootcamp after high school. I lost all 23 of these strange figures and 5 vehicles that included a cold war era Panzer Tank, French Anti-submarine helicopter, Spanish Jeep, Italian Jet, T65 Tank, HIND Helicopter and Speznats Inflatable Assault Raft. The bad guys were tiger strip camo red head Russian troops, officers that look like some if the rip off no name figures that pop up in ebay Joe searches, pilots that looked like ARAH Oktober Guard Horror Show, and a scuba diver that instead of fins and a back tank got clicked into a deep sea suit with brass colored helmet and long cord that went to a plastic oxygen generator.
