- Carl Reiner guested three times on Late Night in 1983, always showing up with schemes to make his appearances memorable.
March 14, 1983: guest; clip of Carl and Mel deleted due to copyright caution
June 1, 1983: guest appearance with bonus video footage not broadcast; clip of "The Man with Two Brains" deleted due to copyright caution
June 2, 1983: cameo appearance
Sad to hear about the news, but glad he gave us so much laughter and deliciously manic moments. Rest in peace, Carl, and thanks for everything.
That was me he hugged in the audience at around 19 minutes in. 39 years later still one of the great thrills of my life.
I love how Dave just goes with the flow, there's a comedy master in his house. Just leave him be, bloody comedy GOLD!!!!! Love Carl Reiner 😂
"This has never been done before." R.I.P. Carl Reiner
RIP Carl. The world is funnier because of you.
American comedy would be nothing without Reiner,Brooks and the Syd Caesar comedy team. RIP
Carl was on The Carson Podcast just a few weeks ago. Still alert and funny. He said he had just begun using a cane. A remarkable career!
Man he was old in 1983. Lived another 40 years almost.
Only 61! One day you’ll see that’s not so old ;)
Love how Carl predicted Dave's career trajectory accurately.
Yes and his heart attack too.
Enjoyed the first interview, very funny. R.I.P. Carl
"You'll be a legend after 30 years"....how prophetic
I am so grateful you exist, Carl. You made my world a better place. RIP wonderful man.
Holy smokes he plays it so well
This is pretty marvelous, sir. You know, it's ironic that Carl Reiner said that David Letterman was going to be a legend someday back in 1983 because everybody believes that Letterman's a late night legend now. I mean, 33 years on late night TV is crazy. I mean, Johnny Carson was on late night TV for 30 years, and he's a legend, too, but holy cow. Carl Reiner is spot-on about Letterman. Wouldn't you agree?
I uploaded just that moment eight months ago -- th-cam.com/video/RjWYD3Vku3c/w-d-xo.html
Don Giller I know, right? I mean, who knew that Carl Reiner would be right about Letterman so many years after his first appearance on his show?
Kung-E Muller Its crazy man that dude knew letterman is a legend
@@Lukefromdaridge He can see the future! Who knows what else he will be right about?
dont you just *love* people who think outside the chair?
No other comic like Carl Reiner
Carl is still alive at 96 years old!
You jinxed it!
RIP Carl. Love you
The man was the Legend
Energetic and entertaining
Joking about Carson and Mel Brooks with his signature tongue-in-cheek straight faced style
R.I.P. Mr. Reiner
Carl Reiner AND John Cleese? What a night
💕 this!! He is a treasure! Wow!!
1983 Carl Reiner was 61 and had another 37years of life left. R.I.P.
Wow. What a comic presence! Dave never did like these kind of shenanigans though...he’s only tolerating it because he’s just starting out, and because Reiner’s a legend. In his two appearances four years later, Dave is no longer shy of letting his unease be known, even telling Reiner what he’s doing is embarrassing.
A little ironic that he jokes about a heart attack scenario with Letterman, who years later underwent surgery.
Oh my God ---- this is so original and hilarious!!!
I can't believe that dancing clip wasn't shown when he died...lmao That was awesome!
That’s the best dancing I’ve ever seen
It was a shame to see him and mel's humor kind of fade away in the early 90's...
Mr Reiner is very impressive wityh his acting skills
Jesus! Carl Reiner and John Cleese in the same show? Wow!
Geez, is that how Dave’s neck was injured? Yikes.
Yes, Dave had his staff instruct guests not to touch his neck. Always thought it was just a story he invented to stop being made uncomfortable by touchy celebs. Now, I'm not so sure.
He remained so thin as he aged, vis-a-vis Rob.
Love Dave's Connie Francis hair-do. 👍🏽
14:48 - What happened to the Reiner - Mel Brooks clip that is mentioned?
@TheBrabon1 Thanks for that - really enjoyed it!
@TheBrabon1 Nope. That's a great guess, but it doesn't match Reiner's description. This does, though: www.hamiltonbook.com/the-timex-all-star-comedy-show-dvd
It's funny what dave says about the people telling them to stay away from reiner cuz that's what happened on a michael keaton movie I 'worked' on lol. Once I heard that I went home lol Still got my name in the credits lol
Does anyone know the song Carl dances to at 1:17?
Beatles - “Everybody’s Got Something to Hide (Except for Me and My Monkey)”
@@dongiller Thank you, Don.
Disappearing blue cup. 5:05
HE really does have an awkward set... I wonder if that was on purpose?
