We had a 1st gen Echo in our master bathroom for listening to music in the morning th-cam.com/users/postUgkxABghAEkaIDGZfHRBH3D3rBrlraNmnC71 and while in the shower. I didn't realize how tinny and awful the sound output on the original Echo was until we replaced it with the Studio. It was a sonic upgrade far beyond what I was expecting. Just wow. I love it because it's like having speakers IN the shower. My friend likes it because the music is so loud that she can no longer hear me singing. So that's a win-win.
The Xtreme 3 is actually a worthy upgrade because internally, it works on 50W RMS vs 40W on the Xtreme 2, but that was in plug power, when using the battery power, it's 40W on the Xtreme 3 vs the 30W on the Xtreme 2, it gets a little louder than the previous gen, it's IP67 instead of IPx7, now I can comfortably carry this to the beach, also when it floats on the water, the drivers now face up instead of down to the water, most likely because of the new neodymium magnets in the speakers, it keeps the 3.5mm aux input and lastly it now charges by USB-C, I initially thought it's not worth it, but knowing these upgrades makes me save more money for it :)

Exactly I agree with you as big as it is I thought it would be louder too I was kind of disappointed for spending 400 Great Sound but agreed it should have been louder for the money in my opinion I was perfectly happy with my charge 5 and it was under $200 just saying
to make it louder you can hold the bluetooth and reduce volume together for some time and then light will blink near the bluetooth and power area then the speaker will work at full power and will be way louder hope someone tries it
The thing with the JBL extreme speakers is the they preform the best when plugged into the charger. It boosts the bass and raises the volume. Try that.
Yea they sound better for sure that is a good fact but I feel a lot of people will have this outside or on the go. Me personally I run the speakers to low battery and I rarely listen while they are plugged in charging.

Regarding the loudness. JBL tends to go for a less processed, more clean sound vs UE. There's a price you pay to squeeze sound out of a smaller cabinet with smaller drivers, and it's clear when you push the UE past 50%, it loses anything below 90Hz and just shouts mids & highs throughout the area lol. I'll sacrifice a little bit of loudness for a more pleasing listening experience that more closely matches my AV system. a dedicated AV system will always be better though. The Hyperboom? That's a whole different kettle of fish. 👌👍

All jbl speakers have a sweep spot for listening. They really good speakers. I think any speaker beyond 80% in volumen will make high sacrifice in quality sound and always is better look for the best acoustic place for them.
@@WannaBuyIt boom is to big for my liking. I have two Charge 5 and they fill my needs. I find very convenient the fact that they can be place far a part each other, make them in stereo or for fill up more space. The only downside I see is the need on a deep bass, but I guest it will hard to find a speaker on that size that make a deep bass like big speaker do.
From my opinion. The JBL Extreme 3 is a good purchase for parks, pools, small get together. However, for a large get together, house party, or the beach there might be better speakers for those occasions.

Very cool breakdown of lots of info, and very smooth flow keeping it moving along without seeming rushed! (Just got my Extreme3 today....really disappointed that there's no EQ on the app...??!!?? Apparently there's a brand new patch of firmware that adds it in, but I haven't been able to access that yet.)

I don't know man I just bought the extreme 3 I think it could be a little louder for the money I hate to admit it but my JBL Charge 5 seems to keep up with it I'm just saying from my personal experience don't get me wrong I love it but I'm a little disappointed for the money I'm going to have to agree with him it could be louder
I have both and I feel the exact same way. Extreme could be louder than the charge 5 especially for the extreme price tag. The only thing it has going over the charge 5 is a little more bass. The charge 5 is actually louder at lower volumes (20-50%) with the same EQ settings and surprisingly the charge 5 sounds better. I also have the Soundcore Motion Boom Plus and it’s not even close to how loud that gets for less than half the price.

You make a good point with that mega boom speaker I heard it play a couple of times & the sound is good mega boom got it right with that speaker but it’s sad that they never got the bass right with the boom3 & mega boom

If you are looking at the Xtreme 3 and willing to pay the $350 I will say pay the $400 and get the UE megaboom if size is not a issue. If you are worried about spending so much on this speaker check out the W-King x10 I did a unboxing video on it. Been using it and it’s a great loud speaker for only $100-120 👍

Great review. But it's not IP sixtyseven. It's IP six seven. You see, the IP ratings have 2 digits. The first digit is for the DUST rating. The second digit is for WATER rating. For $250 I will say yes. Great speaker for that price for sure. You do get a nice little bass not crazy shaking the table bass. But you will hear a good knock when the beat hits

But for $247 the Xtreme 3 is a great deal it will have more bass and will be louder with basically the same sound. I have a VS video on my channel with the two speakers. I use the Xtreme 3 as my PC speaker now and love it. so if you can get it at the price you said get the xtreme 3 but if it goes back up to $350-380 no go
For me the bose Revolve plus 2 is better cuz jbl has though more bass but the bass is more introspective as with all Jbl products. the sound from bose simply sounds better, even if the revolve plus is not quite as loud at a distance. the bass is swept more outwards

I bought this speaker hoping for a least a nice full sound with reasonable bass. The bass is ok but the mids/vocals sound far away which is irritating. Today is my last day to return and I think I'm going to return it. I want this speaker for daily use and for the cost I don't want to settle. I tried the JBL app EQ but it doesn't help much.

Got to finally listen to a sound test through an actual JBL Extreme! Scooped one up at Best Buy today. First impressions are the same.... expected it to be waaaay louder, especially the bass, for the money I paid. $420 with extra 2 year warranty and $40 off.

@@WannaBuyIt So, apparently my firefox browser sucks because the past week I've noticed audio issues like crackling while watching youtube videos so I switched to Brave browser and it not only solved the crackling but it also affected the audio EQ (even with an EQ add on) to the point where it made the JBL sound worse. Now I listen to it and it gives all the bass and sounds pretty darn good. Think I'm gonna keep it now!!
Familiar with the charge 4, but we learned it's not dust proof. Is this one a great one for dustproof? Is their a better one? If you must know It's for a pizza place and our dustinator (flour mix) gets everywhere and is breaking our current waterproof speaker. Please help.
This Xtreme 3 is dust and waterproof with the IP67 rating. That’s the rating you want to look for for your situation 👍🏾 the 6 is dust and 7 water proof

Guys, i need help.. i had to buy a speaker quickly and i went to local shop and bought Vivax BS210.. it was like €50 and i am very happy with it.. it has enough power for me and it can play music from usb (i love that, i wish more speakers have that option).. i am looking to buy another speaker, JBL Charge 5 or Xtreme 3 (or 4).. i think Xtreme is probably overkill for me but i would rather have some backup power and don't use it than don't have it if i need it.. i mostly use speakers when i work out in my home gym and when i am on bbq with my friends.. so no need for something too powerful.. but anyway, has anyone ever compared something like my Vivax with more expensive speakers like these JBLs? Is there a huge difference in sound? Vivax is €50, Charge 5 is €150, Xtreme 3 is €240 at the moment.. does the sound quality difference justifies the price?
Don't forget that the "$50 gap" isn't always just about size or short term performance. A Maserati costs 25%+ more than a comparable Lexus... but in 5 yrs, 10 yrs, 20 yrs that Lexus will still be running strong and holding it's value--while the Maserati is in the landfill--worthless--having costs 10x more over it's life to repair and maintain. JBL has been around a LONG time--and makes EXCELLENT equipment--and has made millions of speakers. Ultimate ears has been around for a little while (mid 90's)--but not making speakers. They've only been doing that for a few years... after Logitech bought them--a company that basically makes computer peripherals. So... I'd bank on that JBL lasting 2, 3, 4, 5x longer than the other.

I have the flip 4, tested the 6, and another above. The flip sounded tinny compared. I bought the extreme 3 and was far louder. I thought the flip was great but this far different. I do like how portable the flip is. I'd use it for beach and boating but the extreme for camping and events etc

I been a jbl fan boy for a long time. However i don't like that campany ue hyper boom. But I can't argue with that Bluetooth speaker ue hyper boom it does have more bass and better sound then the jbl exreme 3. However at the emd I went for the jbl boombox2. Boombox2 to me has one of the bad ass bass i have ever listen even better then the jbl exreme 3.

You essentially reviewed all Jbl Portable speakers in a nutshell. Their not worth the MSRP but if you can get it below it even half that at mint condition, then it’s a great speaker.
Well I think people expect a lot out of these bluetooth speakers I mean if you compare the charge and the xtreme to them old school boomboxes you'll very appreciate the charge or xtreme because no portable radio or speaker gonna take the place of a real hi fi house stereo or car system and the newer the age the higher cost ,welcome to the real world.
yes for sure but for $50 more you get the hyperboom which honestly you might need 2 Xtreme 3s to even have a chance in that battle because one on one will be a joke vs the hyperboom. and that's only for $50 more than the Xtreme 3.

Rodney, JBL was very cool with me but they said that they don't recommend me getting an equalizer program for my phone from googleplay and then using it on my xtreme three. I just bought this speaker. The bass is okay but would be nice if a little bit more. The treble seems to be off the chain way over the top in an irritating way. I understand jbl saying that I could damage the unit by using an equalizer app but right now I am not a happy camper. I understand that you don't want to get on here and TELL us to use equalizer. But would you be willing to get on here and say, "Okay...I'm not telling you to nor recommending that you use and equilizer....but if you determine, on your own, that that's what you are going to do--- this is the one I would use
I think JBL needs a EQ app for sure period because the highs on this speaker do get a bit harsh on this speaker. I think the UE hyperboom and Wking X10 are better speakers than this one. I did a Vs with the W-King x10 and it lost bad. I understand you frustration I say use a 3rd party app and eq it if you need to.

I don't know man I just bought the extreme 3 I think it could be a little louder for the money I hate to admit it but my JBL Charge 5 seems to keep up with it I'm just saying from my personal experience don't get me wrong I love it but I'm a little disappointed for the money I'm going to have to agree with him it could be louder
I have both and I feel the exact same way. Extreme could be louder than the charge 5 especially for the extreme price tag. The only thing it has going over the charge 5 is a little more bass. The charge 5 is actually louder at lower volumes (20-50%) with the same EQ settings and surprisingly the charge 5 sounds better. I also have the Soundcore Motion Boom Plus and it’s not even close to how loud that gets for less than half the price.

If you are looking at the Xtreme 3 and willing to pay the $350 I will say pay the $400 and get the UE megaboom if size is not a issue. If you are worried about spending so much on this speaker check out the W-King x10 I did a unboxing video on it. Been using it and it’s a great loud speaker for only $100-120 👍

Great review. But it's not IP sixtyseven. It's IP six seven. You see, the IP ratings have 2 digits. The first digit is for the DUST rating. The second digit is for WATER rating. So, IP67 means = rated 6 for dust resistant, rated 7 for water resistant. Love your reviews, been watching almost all of your JBL videos

For $250 I will say yes. Great speaker for that price for sure. You do get a nice little bass not crazy shaking the table bass. But you will hear a good knock when the beat hits

But for $247 the Xtreme 3 is a great deal it will have more bass and will be louder with basically the same sound. I have a VS video on my channel with the two speakers. I use the Xtreme 3 as my PC speaker now and love it. so if you can get it at the price you said get the xtreme 3 but if it goes back up to $350-380 no go

For me the bose Revolve plus 2 is better cuz jbl has though more bass but the bass is more introspective as with all Jbl products. the sound from bose simply sounds better, even if the revolve plus is not quite as loud at a distance. the bass is swept more outwards

At start, the low frequency mode is activated. U can switch it off to get more decibels

I bought this speaker hoping for a least a nice full sound with reasonable bass. The bass is ok but the mids/vocals sound far away which is irritating. Today is my last day to return and I think I'm going to return it. I want this speaker for daily use and for the cost I don't want to settle. I tried the JBL app EQ but it doesn't help much.

Yeah when it is plugged in it will be boost in sound a bit. But it is still better than the charge 4 for sure.

Did you compare the difference on volume when its plug to unplugged. Its around 35-40 unplugged to 50 plugged.

Got to finally listen to a sound test through an actual JBL Extreme! Scooped one up at Best Buy today. First impressions are the same.... expected it to be waaaay louder, especially the bass, for the money I paid. $420 with extra 2 year warranty and $40 off.

@@WannaBuyIt So, apparently my firefox browser sucks because the past week I've noticed audio issues like crackling while watching youtube videos so I switched to Brave browser and it not only solved the crackling but it also affected the audio EQ (even with an EQ add on) to the point where it made the JBL sound worse. Now I listen to it and it gives all the bass and sounds pretty darn good. Think I'm gonna keep it now!!

Familiar with the charge 4, but we learned it's not dust proof. Is this one a great one for dustproof? Is their a better one? If you must know It's for a pizza place and our dustinator (flour mix) gets everywhere and is breaking our current waterproof speaker. Please help.
This Xtreme 3 is dust and waterproof with the IP67 rating. That’s the rating you want to look for for your situation 👍🏾 the 6 is dust and 7 water proof

Guys, i need help.. i had to buy a speaker quickly and i went to local shop and bought Vivax BS210.. it was like €50 and i am very happy with it.. it has enough power for me and it can play music from usb (i love that, i wish more speakers have that option).. i am looking to buy another speaker, JBL Charge 5 or Xtreme 3 (or 4).. i think Xtreme is probably overkill for me but i would rather have some backup power and don't use it than don't have it if i need it.. i mostly use speakers when i work out in my home gym and when i am on bbq with my friends.. so no need for something too powerful.. but anyway, has anyone ever compared something like my Vivax with more expensive speakers like these JBLs? Is there a huge difference in sound? Vivax is €50, Charge 5 is €150, Xtreme 3 is €240 at the moment.. does the sound quality difference justifies the price?

If you down to spend the money XG500. But look at w king speakers if you want to sit in that $100 range the X10 or D10
Don't forget that the "$50 gap" isn't always just about size or short term performance. A Maserati costs 25%+ more than a comparable Lexus... but in 5 yrs, 10 yrs, 20 yrs that Lexus will still be running strong and holding it's value--while the Maserati is in the landfill--worthless--having costs 10x more over it's life to repair and maintain. JBL has been around a LONG time--and makes EXCELLENT equipment--and has made millions of speakers. Ultimate ears has been around for a little while (mid 90's)--but not making speakers. They've only been doing that for a few years... after Logitech bought them--a company that basically makes computer peripherals. So... I'd bank on that JBL lasting 2, 3, 4, 5x longer than the other.

ive never owned a extreme speaker before so i cant imagine how they sound in person, just owned a flip 4 and charge 5, xb32., thinking to get xb43 or extreme 3, idk tho which sounds better in person can anyone tell me how they sound?
I have the flip 4, tested the 6, and another above. The flip sounded tinny compared. I bought the extreme 3 and was far louder.
I thought the flip was great but this far different. I do like how portable the flip is. I'd use it for beach and boating but the extreme for camping and events etc

I been a jbl fan boy for a long time. However i don't like that campany ue hyper boom. But I can't argue with that Bluetooth speaker ue hyper boom it does have more bass and better sound then the jbl exreme 3. However at the emd I went for the jbl boombox2. Boombox2 to me has one of the bad ass bass i have ever listen even better then the jbl exreme 3.

Their not worth the MSRP but if you can get it below it even half that at mint condition, then it’s a great speaker.

Well I think people expect a lot out of these bluetooth speakers I mean if you compare the charge and the xtreme to them old school boomboxes you'll very appreciate the charge or xtreme because no portable radio or speaker gonna take the place of a real hi fi house stereo or car system and the newer the age the higher cost ,welcome to the real world.
yes for sure but for $50 more you get the hyperboom which honestly you might need 2 Xtreme 3s to even have a chance in that battle because one on one will be a joke vs the hyperboom. and that's only for $50 more than the Xtreme 3.
But we do have to be happy about what we got because I for sure don't want them big speaker and boomboxes my dad use to carry around or those big ugly wood boxes for home audio hahahah. I rather pay more for my soundbar lol

Man, JBL is expensive in the states. In New Zealand the Xtreme 3 is only $429 RRP which converts to $255 USD and that is including tax.
Man I was it was $255 here, I think it’s that price now because of Black Friday. This speaker cost way too much for what you get from it. You can damn near by a party box for the same price. Actually you can the party box 110 is $250 right now for Black Friday lol

Rodney, JBL was very cool with me but they said that they don't recommend me getting an equalizer program for my phone from googleplay and then using it on my xtreme three. I just bought this speaker. The bass is okay but would be nice if a little bit more. The treble seems to be off the chain way over the top in an irritating way. I understand jbl saying that I could damage the unit by using an equalizer app but right now I am not a happy camper. I understand that you don't want to get on here and TELL us to use equalizer. But would you be willing to get on here and say, "Okay...I'm not telling you to nor recommending that you use and equilizer....but if you determine, on your own, that that's what you are going to do--- this is the one I would use
And then tell us, if it were you, which one that you recommend that you would use and why
I think JBL needs a EQ app for sure period because the highs on this speaker do get a bit harsh on this speaker. I think the UE hyperboom and Wking X10 are better speakers than this one. I did a Vs with the W-King x10 and it lost bad. I understand you frustration I say use a 3rd party app and eq it if you need to.
