ESC Tom Hi Tom...(We) the Netherlands i.g. Duncan/Ilse de Lange won the ESC 2019 and you probabely hope that ESC2020 will be held in Amsterdam....but that might not be the case. 2020 is a busy year (esp. May) cause we will host: Invictus Games, 1 month of commemoration 75yr liberation, Grand Prix Formula 1, Champions League games, Eurovision SC 2020 and SAIL2020. Also 2020 is Olympic Games Tokyo but that should not have mayor effect. I wonder how our small country will deal with all these events, besides the (normal) overload of tourists (April/May is tulip season)!! Just to inform you that the ESC might go down south to Maastricht.

The song has a meaning to the artist and is awesome ( and i am absolutely not a eurovision fan, more of a hater actually ), but afraid people will think it is to slow and boring ( and no i am not one of them ), this besides waylons country/rock song from last year i actually do like which is rare.

This is typical a song that is amazing, but you even appriciate it more when you listened carefully to its lyrics, its like Rembrandt has made this song, its pure art which make full grown men cry like little children, its harsh, its deep and very emotional. Well i could not keep my eyes dry, because his words were so true. So my only fear is those who only listens to the melody and not hear what he is singing about.

Very nice reaction and yes this is the winner this year. Live he is even more amazing and he sounds exactly like in the video's. You can look at his acoustic video's from radio 10 and radio 538. Yesterday in Amsterdam he was Amazing. The audience has such a great Energy… Those Dutch are really funny, nice, spiritual and positive people. Ilse Delange, the vocalist from the Common Linnets, was part of his team and it was she who convinced the commity to send him with this song when they asked her for a recommendation. Considering the final results i would say a smart decision. She actually knew him because she had been his coach on the voice of Holland in 2014.

She was impressed bij him (and then you must be very good). This is his own song. And the content is based on a real love story. A girl dying of cancer, waiting for her (ex)lover, she wants to see him before she dies, but he didn't show up. Ilse herself is also an amazing artist. She was some years ago 2e in the Eurovision contest. I think she should have been nr. 1. If you want to get an impression of Ilse I advise you to see and react on this one. I share everyone’s enthusiasm about this song and would love to see it winning! I have 2 concerns though… first, I suspect that they’ll skip the epilogue, even though it’s beautiful, but I think the crowd will start cheering after he’s finished singing and nobody would hear it anymore. And second… I wonder how they will perform the prologue part live. Seems like we only ever heard it pre-recorded (even in the promo shows if I listened correctly), and I could think it will probably not sound so epic with live vocals.
Ive seen a few of his acoustic performances and he seems fine with the prologue. With the epilogue, I know what you mean, but im pretty sure that they can tune out the audience to a certain degree on the live broadcast - Like how they tuned out the booing of Russia in 2014

I think what The Common Linnets did amazing during their staging was the beginning... The road really got everyone interested, they immediately got everyone's attention. With the intro of Arcade they have to create something like that too, where you immediately get everyone's attention. I think for the rest they have to set the same mood as in the videoclip and keep it simple, but very effective. You cannot really screw up the staging, but you can make it boring, which would be a shame. For the first time ever I'm not afraid in not qualifying, but I probably get a heart attack during the Grand-final voting results xD Going to Eurovision is really a bucket-list thing and if it is going to be in my country, I can go there. But Russia is just very very dangerous, they have more 'friends' and are quite sure of lot of points from former USSR countries, where NL only has Belgium.
woutergoku12 ooooo yes you must go to Eurovision - it’s an unbelievable experience!!! Yes it needs a strong impact at the start but the haunting beginning really does grab your attention regardless. The quality of the video suggests to me that they will get it right. You’re going to have even more of a heart attack this year because of this new voting system (which I am going to do a reaction video for soon) - as I’m pretty sure that Netherlands will win the jury vote and their televote score will be Read last! You’d better stock up on anti anxiety medicine now.
ESC Tom yeah that will make it even worse, in 2014 NL never was really close to Conchita so I wasn’t nervous back than. I hope for the best and hopefully Duncan can handle the pressure, I will see him at Eurovision in Concert, his first performance in front of Eurovision public.
And how nice would it be when we could get rid of all those comments of Dutch people who don 't know anything about the Eurovision and always are negative about the chances for us to win( comments about it's all politics and neighbourly voting for example) They'll see that if you send in a great song even the Netherlands can win and we as Eurovisionlovers can finally correct them after 44 years of waiting🤗

It is a beautiful, beautiful, perfect song and I love the simplicity of the video. One I suspect will win unless they really mess up the stage show or the guy can't sing. It is for sure one which will not disappear right after Eurovision. It will probably be the start of a great career for this pretty unknown singer...But, it is a sad, melancholy song. Nothing that give you energy or make you feel happy. Is it one you will sing along with? You are totally right about Holland being able to host a great Eurovision. I am still rooting for Iceland, even though I can see the problem for Iceland to host and finance such a gigantic project.
Do you not sing along with this? When I listen to this on my headphones at home, I get super emotional and wail along with the chorus. It really touches something in me and gets a visceral, emotional reaction - Almost like a desperation or pleading. Luckily I live alone so noone has so see me doing this :)

Ugh yes I have the same fear - although Russia, Italy and Switzerland are close by. Netta was WAY ahead in the odds last year and still won. I know in the UK commentary that they tell the audience who the favourites are, but Im sure how many of the other countries do that.
Well its swapped many times but currently its Netherlands. I very much anticipate that it will change a few more times once the performances become known
hey John, how are things? Yea ive been planning to do a review of the final 2019 performances as I never actually got to see the TV performances myself. Been having a lot of issues with my camera battery though and work is busy so keep putting it off. Will def get on it soon though as season is starting again in just over 2 months. i have a couple of issues with this fan favorite entry. i'm not a big fan of ballads in general and i do not connect with the song. The depth of the lyrics to me lies in the declaration of the singer of it all being about a lost friend, but the lyrics to me are just the usual song about some toxic love. Not buying the "depth" hype i find the entire package, imagery included, not too genuine. to me is a kind of fun how they sell a nice look at a fine butt under the pretense of human fragility :D i do not fancy coldplay either :)
I really cannot understand why so many people like this song. It's definitely not bad (and I prefer it to Russia, Italy, and Switzerland), but it's again a predictable ballad, trying to copy Sam Smith sound (Which is ridiculous, because Sam Smith is an ultra talented genius with impeccable productions and any effort of copying him is smfor sure a disaster for those who are copying). His live performance is not good, his voice is unstable, his falsettos are wrong and biased, and I have some doubts about the likeability of the singer who seems to luck impact and shine. I definitely prefer songs with more personality and character (and at the end of the day, this is what Eurovision prefers, too - history has proved that). Songs like Slovenia, Albania, Greece, and of course, the best entry ever - Iceland. After Maruv's withdrawal, this year belongs to Hatari and Hatrid mun sigra.
I think the main thing is the super high quality and variety of songs this year. If Maruv was there as well, I would say even more definitely that this is one of the strongest years ever.

Yes it needs a strong impact at the start but the haunting beginning really does grab your attention regardless. The quality of the video suggests to me that they will get it right.
You’re going to have even more of a heart attack this year because of this new voting system (which I am going to do a reaction video for soon) - as I’m pretty sure that Netherlands will win the jury vote and their televote score will be Read last! You’d better stock up on anti anxiety medicine now.
ESC Tom yeah that will make it even worse, in 2014 NL never was really close to Conchita so I wasn’t nervous back than. I hope for the best and hopefully Duncan can handle the pressure, I will see him at Eurovision in Concert, his first performance in front of Eurovision public.
And how nice would it be when we could get rid of all those comments of Dutch people who don 't know anything about the Eurovision and always are negative about the chances for us to win( comments about it's all politics and neighbourly voting for example) They'll see that if you send in a great song even the Netherlands can win and we as Eurovisionlovers can finally correct them after 44 years of waiting🤗
@@djs8806 yes they say the same thing in the UK and IReland and I find it extremely irritating. The British songs never even make the top 30 in the music charts and yet they expect everyone else in Europe to love it!

It is a beautiful, beautiful, perfect song and I love the simplicity of the video. One I suspect will win unless they really mess up the stage show or the guy can't sing. It is for sure one which will not disappear right after Eurovision. It will probably be the start of a great career for this pretty unknown singer...But, it is a sad, melancholy song. Nothing that give you energy or make you feel happy. Is it one you will sing along with? You are totally right about Holland being able to host a great Eurovision. I am still rooting for Iceland, even though I can see the problem for Iceland to host and finance such a gigantic project.
Do you not sing along with this? When I listen to this on my headphones at home, I get super emotional and wail along with the chorus. It really touches something in me and gets a visceral, emotional reaction - Almost like a desperation or pleading. Luckily I live alone so noone has so see me doing this :)

Ugh yes I have the same fear - although Russia, Italy and Switzerland are close by. Netta was WAY ahead in the odds last year and still won. I know in the UK commentary that they tell the audience who the favourites are, but Im sure how many of the other countries do that.

Yea ive been planning to do a review of the final 2019 performances as I never actually got to see the TV performances myself. Been having a lot of issues with my camera battery though and work is busy so keep putting it off. Will def get on it soon though as season is starting again in just over 2 months. Ill try and get on it this weekend

i have a couple of issues with this fan favorite entry. i'm not a big fan of ballads in general and i do not connect with the song. The depth of the lyrics to me lies in the declaration of the singer of it all being about a lost friend, but the lyrics to me are just the usual song about some toxic love. Not buying the "depth" hype i find the entire package, imagery included, not too genuine. to me is a kind of fun how they sell a nice look at a fine butt under the pretense of human fragility :D i do not fancy coldplay either :)

I really cannot understand why so many people like this song. It's definitely not bad (and I prefer it to Russia, Italy, and Switzerland), but it's again a predictable ballad, trying to copy Sam Smith sound (Which is ridiculous, because Sam Smith is an ultra talented genius with impeccable productions and any effort of copying him is smfor sure a disaster for those who are copying). His live performance is not good, his voice is unstable, his falsettos are wrong and biased, and I have some doubts about the likeability of the singer who seems to luck impact and shine. I definitely prefer songs with more personality and character (and at the end of the day, this is what Eurovision prefers, too - history has proved that). Songs like Slovenia, Albania, Greece, and of course, the best entry ever - Iceland. After Maruv's withdrawal, this year belongs to Hatari and Hatrid mun sigra.
I think the main thing is the super high quality and variety of songs this year. If Maruv was there as well, I would say even more definitely that this is one of the strongest years ever.
