I'm sixty, so have seen a lot of Eurovisions. My earliest memories include the competition & I have become more familiar with the earlier songs too through YT. I have favourite songs from all decades but my favourite years overall have been the more recent ones. I particularly love when a country uses their own language &/or celebrates their own culture & also the variety we get now. So it is with sadness that I have decided I really can't watch the competition anymore as long as a certain country is allowed to participate. I watched this year against my better judgement & what should have been a great & up lifting experience, especially since most of the songs & performances were of such a high standard, was just made into a miserable mess because of that country's inclusion & also the appalling way the Joost incident was handled. None of this should be excused or normalised.
Well, we 🇳🇱 are in again. And after listening to a Dutch Podcast I can see why. If we would not have participated we had to step out for 2 years and still have to pay and broadcast the show. Since Eurovision participation is funded by government, public funding, there needs to be something in return. Public broadcasters are obliged to promote culture and weighing everything. The EBU has made some changes. I understand we have to go. So 🤞🏻this year we can put that awful experience of last year behind us.
joost explained in an interview with dutch media that his choice not to participate again is mostly due to the exhaustion of managing the creative process AND all promotion of his work with a small team of just 3/4 people, plus the constant attention he has to deal with that is becoming increasingly negative. he thinks he may come back to the contest in the future when he's ready, but at this time he just isn't 🥲 it's a very last minute decision and he even had a song ready - according to käärijä it was "very good"
I don't think there was a countries video last year; vaguely remember ppl making a fuss about EBU chickening out of it cos of hate comments about Israel. But the list came out on 5 Dec.
Very happy for by Annalisa! 'Sinceramente' was my favorite at Sanremo Oh and: I didn't recognize Maja Ivarsson's name, but when you showed her pic, I remembered her from that Cobra Starship "Snakes on a Plane" song
Lots of people are still angry in the Netherlands, even people who never watch ESC, the only thing (I think) NL can do next year is send an experienced artist and hope for the best, my biggest concern for Eurovision is the war in Gaza, it won’t be over in may and there will be protests again, are they able to control the extra pressure this time?
@esc_india I suspect they are letting us know who has already committed so that they have more time to promote next year's event as "business as normal". They will be keen to tell us "look, all these countries still want to be part of this".
How I interpret "I welcome anybody who would like to join this adventure" as an invitation to go make music, write a song. Maybe it will be picked, but only one song is, so if not, you still have a cool song! He wrote a song too, didn't end up sending it to Avrotros as a Eurovision song, but he still has a song he can release himself.
14:03 Australia still not announced. Sigh. Here we go again… We need to commit early to give our artist the best possibility of attending pre-parties tour and also qualifying for the final.
I hope France will keep being a strong country. A sixth victory would be great, since we've been waiting for a long time. I wasn't even born in 1977 and I want to watch my country win.
Omg Maja Ivarsson?? The Sounds were my childhood. Check out some of their songs you might recognize them. I remember hearing one of their songs in the vampire diaries to my surprise.
In Germany, many suspect that the rejection of the previous production company for the NF could either be a sign of an internal selection or that an outside producer such as e.g. Stefan Raab or Jan Böhmermann produce and renew the NF. Originally the NDR (the responsible German broadcaster) had said that more information would be announced in October, but most recently it said "maybe in November".
I wouldn't be surprised if the UK sends a ballad next year. David May did say that he and the BBC were looking for an "authentic act who has a genuine, heartfelt story to tell, and an unmatched vocal tonality and range." Obviously, it doesn't necessarily mean that it will be, but it reads that way to me. I feel like the BBC's at a weird place when it comes to Eurovision. They withdrew from the junior contest ( though that probably had more to do with this year's time slot than anything), but they announced their participation really early by their standards, and they a lot of Eurovision songs on Strictly this year. I feel like 2025 is the real make or break year for the UK
As amazing as it would be for Louane to represent France, she has said she isn’t going to. Here’s hoping she is doing what film and TV do when their locations get a bit too out there publicly and they release a statement saying the whole thing is off, only to quietly keep it moving (SVP Louane!)
yea like ESC artists regularly do this. Graham Norton flat out said he wasnt hosting and then was announced the next week. Artists arent going to reveal their participation to a reporter's question
Am concerned becos at ESC Liverpool, on TV, the artists got chopped off at the end of the song before we could hear them saying thank you in all their different ways and languages (which is quite touching), so I hope the new bloke role won't do that.
I don't think he has much to with the production side of things. That would've been up to the show Director and how they scripted the camera cuts into CuePilot.
The Albanian system has changed for FiK. The Eurovision act is being picked through a 60% Jury Vote and 40% Televote. I've not seen anything officially confirming this but I've seen it a few times on Twitter, Instagram etc.

Holycrap info, Tom, thank you so much for the updates

Didn't know this. In all honesty for me it was between 2 choices. 1) participating with Joost or 2) not participating.
Scarlet... Sweden, Eurovision... yes
Maybe they're waiting to release the participation list because of Monaco...? (Hope)
Last year's list of participants was put out on December 5. That's the latest that I can remember the list being put out.

It's so sad how the Dutch media treated Joost especially lately.
So happy the Netherlands are back. There are lots of things to look forward to this Eurovision season.

thankyou for always keeping us updated Tom, will always love your workkkkk
Thank you 🙏🏻

The Sounds is one of my favorite Swedish indie rockbands from the early 2000's, really happy to see their singer do a comeback.

Thank you ! I thought I was the only one who liked Olly's performance.
I'm surprised but glad the Netherlands are back.
Bulgaria annouced that they wont participate for unknown reasons and North Macedonia wont participate either because of financial reasons
Gimlo remembers the participants list being released so late last year, thinking maybe December 5th. Gimlo doesn't want to wait that long again 😕

Joost deKleined
oh i missed that opportunity 😭

Thanks, ..lots of good news
I'm already hyped for Elvana's song. I hope they release them before the show tho
YES, i hope so too but im guessing that theyll do the same as last year and make us wait until the show
For better or worse, the contest thrives from making changes due to backlash from previous years. This won't be the first or last time it will happen.

i think after 2 years of shaky vocals, that vocals are going to be a top priority for them this year
Louane said on BFMTV she won't compete for France in 2025.
If you want to become Eurovision director of any sort you should either be Martin or change your name to it for better chances it seems.
The ideal candidate is Martin M. Martinsson
As amazing as it would be for Louane to represent France, she has said she isn’t going to. Here’s hoping she is doing what film and TV do when their locations get a bit too out there publicly and they release a statement saying the whole thing is off, only to quietly keep it moving (SVP Louane!)
oh yes please, would be amazing

Louane pleeeeeasss 🇫🇷🇫🇷
I predict that the Participation List will come out November 29th
It is October 27th the day Im making this prediction

anythign to keep biceps boi from "winning" again.
Louane has since said she will not go to eurovision.
There's an interview on dutch TV where joost explains everything with English translations. th-cam.com/video/4mwH5VRoJnM/w-d-xo.htmlfeature=shared
Winner is alverdy know😂😂
Croatia 🇭🇷 in…..why after all?
