Elvis changed so much since the beginning of his career, his voice got better deeper and stronger, and of course he became exe producer of his own music. He partially arranged with pianist Glenn Harden also. I loved the young Elvis when I saw him in 1956 at 12. He changed with every decade. His best recording, to me, were done in the late 60's from American studios in Memphis. Elvis worked with Chips Momen who was so good for Elvis, producing "Kentucky Rain," Suspicious Minds, "Only the Strong Survive", "Any Day Now' etc. The Colonel got so jealous of Chips influence on Elvis he broke up the relationship with Chips. Anyway, there are so many layers to the beautiful onion called Elvis. Thanks.
It's all subjective. Elvis' record sales, popularity, iconic status, cultural influence makes him the biggest performer of all time by any statistical measure for a world renown superstar, that only performed in his own country.
Go Elvis Go! Aunt Patti adored that man! They were close pals. Aunt Patti's husband Charles O'Curran was Elvis' choreographer for a good portion of his earlier movies. Thanks buddy for giving Aunt Patti another nod! I just know she is smiling from Heaven.
Had Buddy lived who knows what would have happened. He was real rock n roll for his time. He was heavier than Elvis music wise, not heavy metal, but for his time. Buddy Holly was absolutely brilliant and it’s heartbreaking that his life was cut so short because the sky was the limit for him.
All I will say is that for all 13 songs, I would choose to listen to Elvis instead of any of the others. I am addicted to his voice. That was fun, though. Pat Boone always gave me the creeps.😂🤣
I did like 2 of his songs.I realize out of his whole career it isn't much.I like April Love by him.Its from a movie that he was in with Shirley Jones.I also liked Thee I Love which is from the movie Friendly Persuasion with Gary Cooper and Dorothy McGuire. Also had a young Anthony Perkins.Very good movie, always makes me cry.❤
That’s what I was thinking too lol. But it’s all done in good fun & Elvis still won …. I’d do it again, if Zakk decides to do it …. Maybe through the sixties this time.
comparisons are such a difficult thing to do. I am an absolute Elvis fan but like Elvis I will always tip my hat to a better singer. The one difference with Elvis is you got the complete package, if he was on TV or performing these songs live at a concert he was supreme and a totally different vibe was created, unlike listening to them solely on vinyl. A couple of artists I did not know realised some of these songs I must take a listen. Also wow that is an image of Buddy Holly I have never seen before and surprised he recorded the song Reddy Teddy. I shall go now to listen to it. - Returning after listening ti Buddy Holly version, it is very gritty and raw for sure, but the I relistened to Elvis singing Reddy Teddy in the Ed Sullivan show and it is just a more full musical sound, it had me rocking and moving to it, so i would give the point top Elvis. But music is subjective to the listener, there emtions and frame of mind at a particular time, so I really do not get to worked up about peoples views and respect what they like and prefer.
I went ahead and listen to all of them to compare and see if i agree: #1 - Disagree: Way to slow and its ok on the big band feel, but Elvis makes this come alive and has way too much energy just with his guys on the record fo I Don't Care If The Sun Don't Shine: Give it to Elvis #2 - Agree: Now and Then there's a Fool - GIve it to Elvis. Stafford's is again way to slow and has no bounce. Good for the time of slower and more relaxed feel but Elvis' is just way too enjoyable to pass it. #3 - Agree: Give it to Brenda. She nailed it with such class and style. Elvis was just trying to move the song and give it some upbeat feeling but Brenda made it smooth and still with the upbeat. #4 - Agree: Elvis makes it his. Ricky just didn't have the same energy and made it more layed back and country. Come on man, are you trying to get to her or not? #5 - Agree : Elvis owned "Rip It Up". Even though Bill Haley's seems more orchestral and full, there is just no getting around how Elvis wraps himself with this song. #6 - Agree: Another Elvis owned song. The Drifters still just too light and not as spunky in the singing and the orchestral type just doesn't do the song justice. #7 - Agree: Long Tall Sally by Elvis slaps Pat Boone's version silly. #8 - Agree: Must say, I was surprised on this one. Never had heard Buddy's version. Definitely better production on the song, and the band just seems a little too pushy but sharp. So because of how surprised I was and what appears to be a revolution on the sound by Buddy's version, I will give it to Buddy. #9 - Agree: All i have to say about this is: How dare Lymon tried "Jailhouse Rock". Secretly, i was surprised, but there is no one that will be able to Elvis' version from his voice. #10 - Disagree with Blue Suede Shoes: Elvis took that song away from Carl. Carl did an excellent song, but the way Elvis sings it, Carl just doesn't compare with him. #11 - Disagree: I know Charles did an excellent job but its too bluesy for me. I understand for those who like Bluesy style more, then would give it to Charles but Elvis picks this song up from the ground and takes to a higher plain for me. #12 - Agree on Tutti Frutii. I think the musicians did a better job, i mean heck there were a lot more of them then Elvis' 3 or 4 guys, and the feel was better, and the scratchy voice of Little Richard takes this one. #13 - Agree. Turners version was incredibly sang and it almost felt like an announcement of what was coming, but once again, Elvis took it to another plain with his version. So on my list, Elvis wins and had 7 way earlier than your totals of seven to the King. Ultimately, as you recognized it, Elvis still is the King and that's going against 13 different artists vs one man.
this is obviously for fun people in the comments being so rude & overly dramatic defending elvis lol i will never understand the corner of the elvis community that think its ok to be so rude to people in his name...seriously guys!? listen, zakk has some terrible hot takes sometimes, but he's a good guy that is still extremely early in his elvis journey (still in the 50s) and he enjoys poking the bear (elvis fans) for fun but he has nothing but respect for elvis & his talent i understand if you haven't been following his elvis journey & this is the first of his elvis content you've come across ...but i encourage you to have a look at his everything elvis playlist before you go out of your way to be rude to him
Jane H …. This was fun! ….. Poor Elvis being pitted against all those other singers, but he’s always been a Keeeper, & he held his own & kept his kingly title, which he didn’t like being called …. He said Fats Domino was the King of Rock ‘n Roll, & sometimes he said it was Chuck Berry. He never said it was him. I did like Little Richard’s Tutti Frutti better than Elvis (said, at the risk of being shot down in flames), but I’ve been a big fan of Elvis for Sixty Decades from 12 until almost 73 now, so I think I can stand a little heat. Ready Teddy, for me, was Elvis’.
Oh dear … I did a Tie on number 3 …. So I’m going to go with Brenda Lee. Number 4 … Elvis hands down, but I prefer his ‘68 Comeback Special Live, which is amazing, & showcases his amazing vocal range as he matured & his vocal range matured with him. When he was in the 50s, Elvis sang very much in his head voice, but in the 60s & 70s that voice just got better & better, because he was using his chest voice which has a much richer tone. Ready Teddy have to go with Elvis. I just prefer his version to Buddy’s, though I do love Buddy’s version too. Blue Suede Shoes has to go to Elvis IMO ….Carl’s recording didn’t do very well, then Elvis recorded it & it just took off to the moon ….. I’ll go with Little Richard on Tutti Frutti. His version is great. Next time?? Heck, I was up until 2am last night doing this one. I think your next one should be Elvis singing in his ‘68 Comeback Special against everybody singing the same songs. Then I’d be willing to stay up until 2am again
I gave Elvis 9-10 tracks out of the 12 from your original video, watched it the whole way through. I think there was 1 track that I couldn't decide which one I liked better, can't remember which. But definitely thought Brenda Lee and Little Richard took theirs.
obviously Elvis got the title King of Rock n Roll by how many hits he had so fast, but i've never pinpointed who coined the title. i'm guessing it was a DJ

Never heard the other singers singing. Why didn't you pick some good songs, like You've lost that loving feeling, Heartbreak Hotel. The songs picked were horrible songs.
