I grew up in Schenectady. Your good video rimended me so much of the intense storms we had when I was a kid. Loved thunderstorms until our house got hit. We were very lucky, there was no fire. I was a little wary of storms for a while after that. Thanks for sharing this.
We just had a 15 minute squall in slovenia, we dont even live there, we're on vacation. We heard that bled is flooded and generally a lot of damages have been caused
Man, i Remember The Time. This happened in southern California. In 2015, during marketing, things the storm was hitting toward us. We we're getting our stuff for our holidays weekend in November. The storm warning us because it wouldn't, though it couldn't get the worst season. But it did eventually
Thanks! For nighttime chases, I usually try to seek out an area with really good lighting. I was happy with my choice here. Filming toward street lights is an excellent way to video wind driven rain.
Perfect overnight sleeping pill. It starts out as a sunny, very hot day, with temperatures in the upper 90's, then by sunset thunder heads start appearing in the western/southwestern skies, and develop into storms like this by nightfall, and continue throughout the night, ending by daybreak, having dropped multiple inches of rain. This would be especially helpful in a severe drought, where gardens and lawns are dried out, and the rains bring them back to life.
They were organized into a bit of a squall line so not too long. The high winds only lasted about 3 minutes. It rained heavily for about 15 minutes and tapered off during the next 15 minutes after that.
Van Rensselaer shopping center. Where west sand lake road and north greenbush road intersect. It's actually just across the river from Albany in Rensselaer county. About 2 miles east of the city.
This was a squall line that was severe warned at the time. As far as winds at the location I filmed, I'd estimate they gusted to around 40 mph. For a NY storm it was a pretty good intensity. I suppose it comes down to what you consider "high winds". I used that label in this video because, despite the severe warning, I didn't observe severe criteria (58 mph winds or greater) but I felt it was intense enough to include that in the title. There were also several wind damage reports (downed trees) across the area. I do have other videos where I actually observed severe level winds though.
@@mattjenssen7518 qlcs stands for Quasi Linear Convective System. Basically an organized squall line of thunderstorms. A "bow echo" is just a term used to identify sections of a squall line on radar that advance faster than the rest of the line. Areas of a qlcs or squall line that "bow" out tend to hint at stronger downdrafts in that area forcing the convection to grow forward more rapidly. Thus the strongest winds tend to be located along those bowed out segments.
@@mattjenssen7518 That can vary drastically. The wind speed a storm can produce is dependent on several variables. The strength of the downdraft and how heavy the precip is, the mid level wind fields the storm is interacting with, the amount of instability available, etc. In this case the winds were probably gusting between 40 and 50 mph in my footage. But its hard to estimate wind speeds just by looking at them.

Thankyou. Glad you enjoyed it, and I'm glad that lightning strike didn't damage your house. I've had a few close calls myself!

nice to see a beautiful clear video with no unnecessary chatter. thank you.

On Wednesday 28th July 2021 we had 4 Squalls with hail and a month and a half of rain in Bendigo Australia
Love the rain pouring down in the street lights.

Woah it kinda looks like a tropical storm
Definitely possible that there were a few TS force gusts in this squall.
Que linda e maravilhosa chuva meu deus do céu sem ela nós não seremos nada

are squall lines dangerous
I like the 0:16 part the most and it's the most surprising O.o

Was there any hail in those storms?
I didn't see any hail in this area. It's possible some of them produced small hail but for the most part these storms were exclusively wind producers.
Is that Wolf Road?

Okay, did you get footage of the storm in Albany, New Scotland area, many trees down, just a month ago?
Looks like a normal thunderstorm to me. Were the high winds somewhere else?

Quasi linear or bow echo?
This was a small QLCS, but it had several bowing segments.
@@storm12weather does qlcs mean bow echo? Mini bows are called lewp( seriel bow echo)
