This storm was like no other for us. Trees everywhere were torn to pieces, and power out (for me anyway) for four days in 95-100 degree heat with matching humidity. Some STILL don't have power and may have to wait another 2-3 days. A fallen tree hit my house & did extensive damage. Luckily no one died.

So one thing that I think really saved many Omaha neighborhoods is the huge trees. I really believe were it not for the big huge trees we would have seen much more structural damage

We’re severe weather weary at this point here in Eastern Nebraska. My hometown, Omaha, takes another hit. We weren’t spared here in Lincoln. 92 mph knocked many of us offline and clean up continues. Hope everyone’s power has been restored. Excellent footage btw. Stay safe everyone!

This is really a good video.... no real talking and you kept us focused, not spinning the camera all around I tell you I can't believe that tree on the left and the tree on the right did not go down! I was glad you kept going back and forth because I thought for sure the one on the left was going.... those are some tough trees

I find it very sad to see those beautiful trees damaged and destroyed. I see that the kids loved the adventure of it all, as I did at that age. As you grow up you appreciate your environment, and mourn when what is safe and familiar is taken away. Very pleased that all of you are safe.

    • @joryvgphoto
      @joryvgphoto  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

We had a whole house full of family with small kids for a small family gathering. The kids thought it was great. I’m the storm guy of the family so if everyone took comfort that I was ok on the porch (mostly due in part per the direction of the wind) but if they saw I was panicked or run to the basement then they knew we were in real trouble. There was a few hair raising moments however when the bursts of wind came as there was a sort of suction like a vacuum in the spot. Over all the kids loved it and the family was ok.
Omaha however was not spared the wrath of this storm. Omaha has a huge urban tree canopy. I firmly believe that tree canopy is what spared a lot of structural damage. The trees took the abuse of this wind storm and yes it was a pretty significant loss.

This wind storm was terrifying. Somehow managed to keep my power, but everyone around was out. A few trees in front of my apartment lost some limbs, but none completely came down.

I got off work right when this hit. I drove to lowes to seek shelter and opened my car door but it was held open by the wind and I could barely close it. I decided to stay in the car until it "blew over" but then they announced a tornado warning. I knew I couldn't walk to the entrance from my parking spot so I parked in a loading zone and was able to take shelter inside lowes thankfully. Later had to remove my tree and there was no power for five days.

All I was expecting on that day was a little bit of rain and nothing too crazy but I was wrong by far. I looked out my window and heard a little bit of thunder so I went to one of the lowest floors in my house and was sitting on my couch until I got a severe thunderstorm warning. When I got that severe thunderstorm warning, I knew that the severe storm was approaching. I thought I had heard a little bit of hail at times, but there was 2 times that lightning struck close to my house. One made the back door shake and the house shake, and the other one had struck right next to my neighbors house. I got sent footage of the lightning striking right next to my neighbors house and I saw that the grass was on fire for a second, and when the lightning struck, it covered the whole camera white for a second. The sky got green and foggy so I kept worrying more than I did during the April 26th tornado. This severe thunderstorm was probably more dangerous than the April 26th tornado. I still remember that this severe thunderstorm had hurricane winds. At first my phone said it was 80mph winds but it then got up to 100mph. I have big trees behind my backyard and they survived that storm. I think a few branches fell off the trees. Also, my lights only flickered and I didn’t lose my power. I remember I was in school until 4:00 or 5:00 for the April tornado, one of the lights went out in my school. Otherwise, the lights at my school and my house were flickering from hail or wind. But this storm was no joke!

Some of those gusts were absolutely insane, but what interests me most is how you would get insane hurricane-force crazy gusts, and then calm down to only a breeze to windy conditions right afterwards at times.
I intercepted Hurricane Helene in Madison FL earlier this year, experienced even stronger gusts than you had here but never had those lulls like you did, just a sustained blow through the eyewall.
I find that so interesting how you can go from 10-80+mph in only a few seconds like that.

@@Roblocksgaming The only reason why it wasn't classified as a derecho is because the storm was not hundreds of miles in duration. Otherwise I would completely agree.

Ya not for me I would be hiding in the deep basement. I’m terrified of any storms. Thank gosh I live in Vancouver now as opposed too Montreal

i feel for you guys. I live in Iowa and when we had our derecho back in 2020, the winds reached 130 mph with possible higher gusts. And the storm stalled right over our city and seemed like it lasted for an hour. Crazy to think a thunderstorm could produce winds like this.

I remember that! I was in Omaha at the time. Even though the line of storms were 25 or so miles north, we still got a good wind that knocked a lot of limbs down.

Dude, every time you start "yelling" you "spoil the moment" for us. We don't need an interpretation of what we can (already) see and hear.
Thumbs down for spoiling the moment. The video was great but ruined by your emotional outbursts.
Think about that next time you make a video about storms.
