    What is overlooked is that the goal of HYLD was to match the S&P and that failed so no fanfare there! I dumped HYLD weeks ago for a fund that meets that objective!! Adriano doesn’t dare bring that up since he pumped up HYLD so hard.

    • @PassiveIncomeInvesting
      @PassiveIncomeInvesting  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      no, that is not the goal.... I never said that. The goal is clear as stated on their website: "Portfolio of U.S. equity covered call ETFs with overall sector mix broadly similar to the S&P 500" , "A higher-yielding alternative to the
      S&P 500 with similar volatility" . its not to "MATCH, or "BEAT the SP500". I dont pump anything , i make educational videos on funds I like and OWN myself.

    I still don't understand how the management expense ratio gets paid. How is it different than the expense ratio? Is the MER a required disclosure for Canadian funds? I am not familiar with it. Do all covered call funds have a hidden 2% fee that cuts into performance?

    • @PassiveIncomeInvesting
      @PassiveIncomeInvesting  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      in short: the managers profit is the fee (0.65%), the rest goes to operating expenses (trading costs, leverage costs, fees of finds inside etc.)

They show "total return", I guess it is not only the stock price: they show stock price plus distribution? HDIV is about 13% of my portfolios and it gives me 10.8% yield, because I did not buy it at the emission date. I am very satisfy with it and will invest more. 😁

    Minute 18:10 Just to play Devil's Advocate, comparing ZWC from BMO to HDIV isn't quite a fair comparison. ZWC is a genuinely 100% all Canadian companies fund. HDIV has NXF (many foreign oil companies), GLCC (North American Gold Producers) and HTA (the Big US Tech stocks like Nvidia, Meta, Google). As we all know, the US Market, especially the US tech sector, consistently outperforms the Canadian market. Not to mention HDIV has that 25% leverage, which ZWC does not have. When you take those factors into account, it's no wonder that HDIV is performing better than ZWC.
    Not trying to criticize you Adrian, just making an observation since you are the kind of guy who welcomes constructive criticism.
    Heck, maybe I'm missing something.
    Hope the observation isn't off.
    Appreciate the videos as always.
    P.S : I also want Non Inner Circle members to know that those of us who are long time Adrian fans and followers aren't above asking tough questions or making observations that aren't perfectly laudatory. Critical thinking is key to success. And critical thinking requires asking tough questions.

      @@PassiveIncomeInvesting John Milton : And as we're straddling from one deal to the next, who's got his eye on the planet, as the air thickens, the water sours, and even the bees' honey takes on the metallic taste of radioactivity? And it just keeps coming, faster and faster. There's no chance to think, to prepare; it's buy futures, sell futures, when there is no future.
      I saw Devil's Advocate years ago and didn't really appreciate it. I was more into the cerebrality of Star Trek and it's optimistic vision of the future. Devil's Advocate is very raw and a perfect role for Al Pacino in its grittiness and nihilistic view of humanity. I'm still a Star Trek man myself, but I appreciate what the movie was going for, and it definitely produced a lot of very quotable lines like the one above.
      As for HDIV and ZWC, I appreciate your clarity and forthrightness as always Adrian.
      So, indeed, the comparison isn't strictly fair, but it's because HDIV is a unique product.
      I can appreciate that, and as many people have expressed, we're grateful that you bring attention to them and the great yields they provide.
      Without you, many of these funds would have passed under the radar.
      I don't know how wise I am, but I do value critical thinking and the fundamental freedoms greatly.
      You strike me as a kindred spirit in that Adrian.
      Capitalism is the greatest tool humanity has ever devised to lift us out of poverty, and its truest application requires critical thinking and the fundamental freedoms.
      China is using Capitalism, but with critical thinking and fundamental freedoms stymied or outright forbidden.
      I don't think their approach to Capitalism will pan out, but we shall see...
      Geez louise, why would YT ban a comment for length? You and I have hardly written essays here. Just a few paragraphs when I've practically seen doctoral thesis in comments before.
      YT and its on again / off again relationship with freedom of speech. -_-
      Thanks again for the great content and thoughtful response Adrian.
      Your detractors just don't get what you're doing, but keep doing it and your consistency and transparency will win out in the end.

    Hi Adrian, I have a question for you. The HDIV has a fee of 0.65%, but each of his holdings also has its own fees. In the end, Would the investor end up paying more in fees? If this is correct would make more sense for the investor to buy directly the holding of HDIV. Thank you for your videos I have learned a lot !

    Minute 6:00. HDIV is trying to mimic the TSX 60 which is Canadian companies. Why then does NXF make up 20% of HDIV, when only 2 of the companies in NXF are Canadian? British Petroleum, Exxon, Shell, Chevron, Total, none of these are Canadian companies. A bit odd then to promote HDIV as an alternative to an Index fund of the TSX 60. 😐
    That said. I've been happy with my HDIV yield...though i wish I'd sold before this mini crash and bought back in now. Should have seen it with all the bad news around the US financial sector and Chinas economic floundering with Evergrande and Country Garden.
    Timing the market is tough. But, i saw people selling their HDIV off in large number's. Should have known there was going to be a big dip. 🙁
    Thanks again for the video Adrian.
    Despite my grumbling, still happy with HDIV.

    • @belovedsurfing7210
      @belovedsurfing7210 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@voo5000 Yup. My assumption is that Hamilton uses the TSX 60 as a very "broad comparison" to their fund. It's supposed to be a companion to HYLD which is supposed to be the US side of the Hamilton 1 - 2 punch. 👊 But, HDIV is probably around 20 to 25% non-Canadian holdings, so not quite an accurate juxtaposition.
      That said, Hamilton knows people are after yield and are willing to allow for flexibility in how "Canadian" HDIV is, as long as it has the Canadian Big Banks and Big Energy companies.
      Yield and Fund Sustainability are king after all.

    • @PassiveIncomeInvesting
      @PassiveIncomeInvesting  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      BROADLY based on the ......

    • @belovedsurfing7210
      @belovedsurfing7210 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@voo5000 I don't agree with the shady comment Rickey. I've watched interviews between Adrian and Rob Wessel (admittedly...kind of an unfortunate name there considering it's natural association with the musteilidae family) and I think Rob is on the level with his disclosure of the fund's details.
      I think a bit more forthrightness would be commendable. HDIV's landing page, as Adrian points out, does specify HDIV is "broadly" similar to the TSX 60, but I think having maybe 25% of the fund's holdings being Non-Canadian is a bit of a stretch for "broadly". I understand the rationality. HYLD is supposed to be for US exposure. HDIV is supposed to be for Canadian exposure. It's a marketing strategy. No duplicity, just not strictly precise in the conveyance of the fund's holdings and state goals.
      That said, most people care about sustainability, consistency, and yield.
      HDIV is a Canadian fund with only around 75% Canadian holdings, but the International Holdings are very strong, the yield is very good, the performance is excellent, so being a bit loose with how Canadian HDIV is won't bother the plurality of investors.
      As for the fees, the Yield is Net of Fees.
      They could charge 5% in fees and so long as the Yield was beating the S&P 500 year after year, investors don't care.
      I don't.
      For my critiques, I still like HDIV a lot and am very happy with the monthly distributions.
      I just wish I'd sold before the recent mini crash and bought in now.
      Would have increased my yield a lot...just hard to time the market.
      Should have paid more attention to what i was seeing online with the market and people selling.
      Oh well, live and learn.
      But yeah.
      I don't agree Rickey with Hamilton or Adrian being shady.
      I genuinely like and trust Adrian. He's helped me get a very nice monthly yield.
      As for Rob Wessler and Hamilton, Rob is a financier and speaks like one and that's just fine with me.
      I'd just change HDIV's language to saying something like, "75% invested in Canada, with 25% invested in the US and International Funds to broadly mimic the performance of the TSX 60".
      More accurate. More transparent.

    • @belovedsurfing7210
      @belovedsurfing7210 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@PassiveIncomeInvesting Yup. You're right Adrian. That's true. Just maybe Hamilton could change the description to, "75% invested in Canadian Holdings, with 25% invested in the US and International Holdings to broadly mimic the performance of the TSX 60." More accurate. More transparent. HDIV is marketed as the Canadian alternative to HYLD, but at 25% International...it's not really a fully Canadian alternative like ZWC.
