I saw the movie a few hours ago, and I just want to talk about Anna Kendrick in this movie, because she was one of the highlights for me. Anyone else agree?
She sounds wonderful. Interesting approach to having the song, but without her just telling about it. She's thinking it out, in the moment, rather like the Baker's Wife's "Moments" (or whatever her song is called, after the Prince leaves her). But this one's a 'time-stop' moment. I NEED to see this movie!
lol, look at her face while she sings. "He spread pitch on the stairs? That's really creepy, but also kind of romantic. No! I won't subject to Bella Syndrome and stay with the possessive ginger!"
1:28 it's just a "siriously?" expression. Then she's just like, yes, no, yes, no during this song #Siriouslytorn/indesisveprincess, witch is probably a more realistic version of what Cinderella's reaction would be, in my opinion, over scrutinizing it all, and extremely indecisive, like, I think, a lot of us are about certain things.
I just wanted to say how refreshing "Into The Woods" is- it uses most of the original Cinderella fairytale, instead of Disney's fairy godmother/glass slipper story. Plus, gold slippers must be WAY more comfortable than glass.
Disney didn't make up the fairy godmother and glass slippers. That comes from Perrault's French version of the story, including the pumpkin. This version -- with the pitch, lentils in ashes, 3-night festival, blinded stepsisters -- is based on the Grimm version. Disney based their animated film on Perrault's version.
BTW: Perrault's version (19697) of Cinderella predates the Grimm's version (1812) by over a hundred years, so in this instance Perrault's would be considered the original.
I wasn't sure about Into The Woods when I first watched it but I loved it by the end. I loved it and the ending really did it for me, that was a great ending.
AH!! Know Anna Kendrick from Pitch Perfect originally. Lol. Knew she could sing... But DANG! She was the highlight in this film for me. Amazing vocals! Paired with GREAT acting. Would have loved this movie so much more though if the ending hadn't been so whacky... :/ Nothing against sad endings. But THAT was just strange...
How would she be able to lift her dress off the stairs? Goo would be sticking to that too, and it would most certainly be on the base of the dress when she lifted it up.
*Cinderella:* * is running away from the ball * *Cinderella's Shoes:* * get stuck in the pitch * *Cinderella:* * freezes time, pops her feet out of the shoes and starts pacing around the stairs singing * ♫ "...while you're standing here stuck on the steps of the palace..." ♫ *Cinderella's Bare Feet:* * get stuck in the pitch * *Cinderella:* "...well...uhhh...oh, poopy." ...so that scene could have gone *_much_* differently than it did! 😄
No, Disney's film is based on the Perrault version (fairy godmother, glass slippers. magic pumpkin), which preceded the Grimm's version (the pitch, lentils in ashes, 3-night festival, blinded stepsisters) by nearly 200 years. Thus, Perrault's is the original in this case although the story of Cinderella has existed for centuries in various incarnations. The story of Rhodopis about a Greek slave girl who marries the king of Egypt is considered the earliest known variant of the "Cinderella" story and dates back to the 1st century BC.
Stop the action. Genius. What a visually beautiful and enchanting concept!

I heard just the audio and thought it was awful. Then when you watch it and understand what is going on, soooooo much better.

Cinderella's story is based on the original Cinderella story not Walt Disney's version
