I am loving the progress of this scratch build Class 185. This is inspiring to many other modelers alike. Mounting the motor in the middle is ideal as then its more distributed power as Kato does this with a lot of their EMU's and DMU's.
Hi John - a lot of work but certainly well worth the effort. Enjoyed listening to the way you've gone about this build and come up with solutions. Enjoy the exhibition 😊
Hi John, All I can say is well done for the determination to get one of these on the layout I just hope the new transfers work and then your there. Have a great time at the NEC a video please. Cheers Robert.
Hi John, crikey, your determination is amazing, I would have probably thrown it out of the window by now!!! Hope you get the decals to work and enjoy the show, always interesting, cheers John, John
This project has certainly been setting you some interesting exam questions to answer. Good to see you've been able to get the unit moving and you are getting there with having a functioning model to run on Piccadilly. I decided a couple of weeks ago that I would nip down to Birmingham for the NEC show on Saturday. I'm flying down on the 7am flight from Edinburgh and going back on the 15:38 train to Edinburgh. Hope to see you there at some point. Stephen
Good morning John! Great work as always! I saw that train-o-matic have just released a new n gauge stay-alive that may be of some use! Shame about the decal paper, hope you get that sorted! I thought that putting the motor in the middle coach was a great choice! I'm sure you'll get better operation when you add more pickups and fiddle with the CV values! Enjoy your time at the NEC! All the best, Ian.
Thank you, I’ve got some new decal paper which just works. Printed off the decals, far too dark and all out of alignment. Start again. I’ll get it sorted. I’ll see if trainomatic are at NEC thx for that. Youchoos otherwise will help me
Wow this has been an amazing project to watch. Runs well maybe as you say some decoders tweaking may help. Looking forward to seeing the transfers fitted.
Thanks Deano, yes I have since adjusted the CVs and its made a huge difference. Ill have a look for stay alives and insulated wheels at the NEC show next week. Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment.

Thank you, so glad you like it. Yes, I have a couple of class 800 with central motor.
All very interesting. Regards, Stephen.

Thx John, well I nearly did throw it out of the window. So frustrating with continual shorting. Least it runs now. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Yes definitely some challenges, maybe more ahead, lol who knows...
Will be brilliant to see you.
Hi John
All the hard work has paid off as you now have a train you can’t get RTR . Open up a lot of possibilities.
Cheers Kev
Absolutely, yes should run well when I can get the second bogie powered.
