8:09 "Experience a night with Ani." I really appreciated this first part of the film because it puts us directly into the main character's shoes. It felt like we were literally another patron at the club, and watching this story unfold right in front of us. And it carries that feeling throughout the entire movie! 😯
@@arabwaluigi5248 I don't know what your age is, but I was the key demographic when the film was released, and it just hit on another level being in my late 20s dealing with career and realtionship uncertainty
Anora has way more class drama and all around universality to its story than WPITW. WPITW is primarily relatable to 20 something women who graduated from liberal arts college. The conflict in the film come across as superficial
Say hello from South Korea. I just watched the movie. Mikey was phenomenal. I love it so much. it was not like American movie stereo type. which makes me love the movie more.
And they did it freakin well! Watching that part of the movie I was in pain, in fact I told to ky friend can u imagine having to do that all night? Talking to all this men you could care less about, being nice, pumped all the time and then dance for them etc. I would be over with the world for days after a night like that. I went to watch the movie with no expectation, I half watched the trailer thinking oh yeah a “Netflix teenage flick” well I couldn’t have been more wrong! Everything works perfectly, it’s funny, exciting, sad and fuck the ending!! Good job!
Scene in the club is interesting because they had to create the feeling of a crowd but the camera needs space. I wonder how it's possible if, as Sean Bakers says, people were able to move freely on the set like in a real club.
Great film. Great interview. I have just a few notes: 2:20 Rough audio edit. 4:54 Audio pop. 6:36 Can this be improved? You can see she is not saying "no". 7:33 Rough audio edit. 7:42 Adding a bit of air may help this edit. A lot of rough audio edits in this cut. You may want to revise these edits and re-upload. Thanks guys.
This was a really good movie. The amount of sex scenes was definitely gratuitous, so I hope the lead actress doesn't feel taken advantage of later as she is quite young. With that being said, I suppose we all make a deal with the devil at some point, and if this was her trade, she certainly made the most of it by showing her range as an actress. That ending was absolutely heartbreaking tho, and tbh it felt like a really lame place to end it. Like, I laughed, cheered, and rooted for her THE WHOLE FUCKING TIME, and I left feeling like I had been punched in the gut. Ani deserves a happy ending, truly she was the victim, and we all want to see the victim win in some way. If the directors cut doesn't have a scene in the end with a PJ crash, there is no God.
I think this movie would fail if the ending wasn't heartbreaking. While this movie is very funny, it is a tragedy at its core. All of its themes about the lies we tell ourselves and the desperation with which we cling to them, the devastation of disillusionment, the tragedy of powerlessness as a working class person, the intense experience of being seen in the midst of that pain etc would be massively undercut by a happy ending The ending, in a direct, visceral and elegant way, visually communicates and reiterates a bunch of the layered themes of the film in one poignant moment. It would be a completely different and much more trite experience if she found happiness at the end of this nightmare imo Also, this movie is *about* sex work, and it's depiction is compassionate and destigmatizing while acknowledging the dangers and complications - I would not call this a "deal with the devil" on Madison's part to showcase her talents. Depicting sex in art, even if you do so with reckless abandon, is perfectly valid and ethical.
The sex scenes are not gratuitous at all. The main character is a sex worker, if we want to understand how she lives her life, we have to be shown some sex scenes.
@@Extracredittttt interesting take & while I agree with a lot of it, Baker has said the ending is open for interpretation. I’ve heard others see the ending as more positive & optimistic, Baker said he designed it to be filled in with individual viewers perspectives, more a mirror than a message. Some think she’s crying because she’s just been through 3 days worth of madness & hasn’t registered it, so it hits her then. Others see it as a deeper more spiritual realisation by her etc

one thing that stood out to me about this scene was how great it was edited. just felt very organic in showcasing what goes on in this woman's life.
Just goes to show how much Sean Baker cares about the final product. He’s a writer/director/producer/editor and does all four extremely well.
What a fantastic scene that was! It hooks you right at the very beginning!

easily the best movie i've seen all year, what a spectacular actress
Saw this last night so good, and Mikey was brilliant!
I loved The Florida Project so much! If you liked Anora, be sure to watch The Florida Project too.
Just finished the film, this and "The Worst Person in the World" and hands down the best films of the 2020s, and represent this era perfectly
Agreed. Amazing gems
Really do not understand the worst person in the world or the hype around it.

Sean and Mikey are just too amazing
As someone who does embarrassingly frequent the strip clubs, they did a good job of capturing the way things do happen in one.
Sean captured the process of hitting up an escorts ad in The Florida Project. Not that I would know anything about that...

Mikey Madison is a revelation in this movie! Sean Baker is a star maker indeed!
I’m obsessed with her brooklyn accent
Mikey madison oscar winner best actress and anora best picture winner
I love this movie and Mikey's perfomance. She's amazing!Thank you both for this fantastic movie

deserves the Oscar
It would be nice to if they release some extras and BTS like the 30 min footage from the beginning

Sean Baker is an amazing listener

Jan 3, 2025. Just watched it, it's an excellent film, won Palme d'Or, and totally deserved it. the performance is the first class.

OMG that movie was so good. I don't know how Mikey did those sex scenes - she was fierce. Sean, I loved the Florida Project.
How many days did you spend shooting those club scenes? One day? Two days?
Between her and Demi for best actress of the year imo.
