I know, it's said animals don't have human emotions but it's not every pair of matingbirds that would stay with a Cuckoo bird and try feeding it till the end. At 1 point it was like the mother bird was looking into the camera and asking someone else to do what she couldn't do and help but that's nature unfortunately. I like the story when the parents are smart enough to feed their children first and the cuckoo survives to be fed after. Thank you for these videos, they have kind of become my sleeping medicine ha I always fall asleep and hope to wake up to all the birds still in the nest until they're ready to fly
Flies around the mouth and eyes, mucus membrane stuff. That means the chick is totally dehydrated and is dying from that (no water) and not starvation. They can live a long time on little or no food but they need water to stay around. When they don't their mouth and eyes start to dry out, which is why it can't swallow anything. It probably is blind now too. Assuming all the stuff we're seeing is what it is this chick is in the last stages of the bird death dance. I saw an osprey nest awhile back where the smaller chick was alive but couldn't get enough food to grow right. It hit a point where it looked just like this one is now. It couldn't feed itself or move around and just died. It was buried at sea (I don't think osprey eat their own, they only eat other birds).

I see people saying malnourishment, constipation, or organ failure. Poor cuckoo bird spent all its time trying to push the other birds out of the nest even when grown, it wasted so much energy and didn't get enough to eat even though the parents are feeding it now , it seems its too late , unfortunately
It appeared the pooping problem worked itself out on this 'day', bird looking better physically and eventually able to assume a normal posture.... but then gasping for air; breaths toward the end appeared agonal, as in dying bird is in a coma.. I am going to guess systemic infection, like sepsis. The cam operator cut the stream, but there is no doubt the bird died.
The Camera man should have given some water instead of leaving her to its fate,so that way the cucko birds can entertain us more, Oh,when every sentient beings goes through suffering,no matter whether the Cruel one or generous one, it hit us too.
I'm confused. What happened to the host bird chicks? Did they grow up and leave the nest? Or were they thrown out and died (by this rotten sick and dying pest bird)? Just think, these poor birds have their own, personal invasive species to destroy them.
And before the host birds left the nest one of the sisters stood on cuckoos head. I wonder if that was a way to get back at him trying to push her out the best and actually caused an injury.

The osprey is a fish-eating hawk and will only eat other birds if fish are scarce or if it is robbed by the bald eagle of its fish food.
