Great instructional video, concise and to the point with handy hints. Just did my CX5 pads and followed this to the letter. Many thanks, a new subscriber
I’m glad I do my own,you didn’t clean the brake dust and crud from the stainless steel tins that the pads fit in and you didn’t clean off the old grease on the slide pins before applying new grease.
I looked at other videos here and agree he did a good job explaining the procedure but he didn’t mention the procedure on how to apply the parking brake which puts the car in the service mode or how to release the parking brake which calibrates the parking brake. I still gave him a thumbs up…
Great vid, I will be doing brakes on my cx-5 soon and this will be my first time ever, I loved your vid, being watching brake vids the last few weeks to make sure I don't miss anything, and your videos are very well filmed and informative with the torque specs. Thanks for sharing! 👍👍👍
Thank you so much i really appreciate it🙂 i do hope my video helps makes everything go easy and smooth for u..i got a video for replacing brakes plus the rotor as well on the cx-5 also, if u end up having to replace the rotor...good luck on ur first brake job🙂
My Mazda has 111,111 miles on the front pads but I've done the rear twice. It takes more time to round up the tools, lube, quieter and cleaner than to do the work :(
Do you have a video of the rear brake. I have problems with the rear passenger brake. I think my calliper is sticking. replaced the rotor and pads 18 months ago. Having same problem again. Thanks, great video on the front brake.
yes i do but i havent been able to edit it as of yet, but i have a video of how to compress a caliper which should be helpful cause its the same type of caliper...th-cam.com/video/OTu8mBRa1Io/w-d-xo.html but i will have that other video completed later this week or early next week.
holy fark, signature mazda stealership quoted me 500 for front and another 500 for back for my 2017 GT. I will be changing them out myself when the time comes.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Can I ask a question about how often you replace the rear brake pads and rotors? My 2013 CX-5 needs to replace all brake pads and brake rotors- whatever the fronts and rears- almost per year. Is it normal?
Anytime🙂..the rears will last longer than the fronts..they almost last twice as long as the fronts..but depends on how much miles u put on the vehicle per year and also depends on the type of driving..freeway driving will wear out brakes less than city stop and go driving
Thank you for posting the video. I also watched your video for the rear pads and rotors, very helpful. I am changing the pads and rotors for the front; by any chance do you know the tightening torque for the front caliper bracket to the wheel when I remove my rotors?
Thank you🙂 well it was a customers vehicle so they only wanted brake pads replaced..but i ended up changing em soon after, which i made a video on like a month later cause i told em the steering wheel shake when braking was due to an uneven brake rotor surface
I noticed that in your video about read pads replacement you are spinning the caliper to compress it. but here you are not. does that mean that the front and the rear on a 2013 CX-5 are different?
Thanks for your video. Especially the lubricant part. My right rear squealed and had uneven wear on the inner pad. The fronts will have to wait till next year.
Hey backyard Chevy you say towards the end to tighten the screws to certain pounds. I think the caliper screws were 22? How is that measured? Can it be measured? It would be my first attempt at brake pad replacement and I want to do it right. Also is a resurface of the rotors necessary or not? Thanks!
Well that would be done using a torque wrench..if u get new brake pads, resurfacing the rotor gives u a fresh surface for the brake pads..so they work better..with better stopping grip..or u can replace the rotor if necessary
this is the second video i have watched and none have had to bleed the brakes.... its been a loooooong time since i have changed pads but dont you need to bleed anymore?
You dont have to bleed ur brakes unless u introduce air into the system, like if u change a brake hose or caliper if u do that then u gotta bleed brakes.
Well metallic brake pads would be the ones that wear out the rotors faster..ceramics are my favorite but they do put out a lot of brake dust...organics are good for daily driving if ur not gonna put em through heavy braking, but they will wear out faster than the rest
It looked to me like you had a lot of pad left, I think I would've waited. Do other people feel like that, or am I waiting too long. I helped my friend change his old Camry's pads last weekend, he had less than an 1/8th, I think that is a little excessive.
Cleaning pushpins and adding brake lubricant to em should be done...bleeding old brake fluid i dont do because it could introduce air into the system and could cause worse problems, i would rather bleed old brake fluid completely separately.
Its the same procedure only difference is the brake pads will be a different part number and look a lil different and mazda 3's have a spring anti rattle clip that u gotta pop off using a screwdriver
Thats for the rear brakes, since the 2016+ mazda's have electronic parking brakes..but the one i was doing had the manual parking brake and then also i was doing the fronts
@@backyardchevy328 i notived i have a small tear in my rubber piston boot. grease was slowly coming out when squeezed. Will this be a problem?should i replace that small rubber pin boot?
@@tonymaruca6776 yes, youll wanna replace it..because that holds in the grease and if theres no grease that pin can seize up and ur brakes will wear uneven and youll have to replace the whole caliper bracket if it gets that bad
No theres only 2 of the 4 brake pads that will have a warning clip and one brake pad with warning tab will go on drivers side and the other will be for passenger side
The brake pads I bought came with some additional hardware (anti rattle springs). I see you didn’t have something like that and only installed the warning clips. Now I’m wondering if it was absolutely necessary to install those springs cause they were a bitch to get the pads in.
Mine didnt come with em, but if it did come with em its good to replace em, i should of replaced em myself but i just ended up cleaning em and using the brake lubricant.
Yea its almost the same except for the front rotor on this vehicle u got a threaded hole where u can use a bolt to pop rotor off the hub, and on the rears u gotta pop off with hammer blows.
No, thats how they are..the front fingers will grab onto the outer brake pad once the piston pushes out against the inner pad(after ur done replacing em and press the brake pedal), then itll firm up
"A few knocks with a 4 lbs hammer, and it comes right off" Meanwhile... people up in the rust belt: "Anyone know if Barry Bonds could come over and use this 15 lbs sledgehammer on my rotors for a few hours to try to dislodge it?" In all seriousness, Mazda OEM rotors have a small hole that a M8 1.25 bolt can be screwed into to convert rotational force on the bolt to linear force to the hub to separate the rusted hub from the rotor.
Yea the hardware should be changed or at least cleaned...i changed the hardware next day when they came in..but yea i should of just waited to do video.
