Great list! I've actually been compiling a somewhat similar list (but with almost no cross-over) for a similar video. So many great things out there to discover!
hey i just stumbled across this style of dungeon crawler rpg (as well as your channel) and i just wanted to say i am immensely grateful to you as well as fellow crawler channel Dungeon Dive for making this little scene way more accessible :) also I was surprised to find that yr channel is so new!! keep up the good work and I'm sure yr follower count will grow exponentially. good shit man :p
I love dark fort! I also suggest Dark Fort Lane by serial prizes, which gives it a humorous spin. It can be found on itch. I'm also glad you liked Reckless Plundering, I really enjoyed writing it. I hope you enjoyed Gravest Matters as well 👻
Hi Rinaldo - thanks for checking the video out! I'll check out Dark Fort Lane - hadn't come across Serial Prizes before - their Ikezu-ishi One Page Adventure looks interesting as well!
Thank you for all the suggestions! I've been seeing dark fort talked about lately but I have to buy the zine for it and I'm really interested in it so having some alternative options that are based off of it is great!
You're welcome! Yeah that's the problem with Dark Fort, so something like Dismal Armory or Corny Gron provides essentially the same experience for much less money!
That's great - hope you enjoy Reckless Plundering! I don't think it is a problem with the links - I think itch.io is down at the moment! Very weird - I haven't seen that happen before!
Tin Helm is excellent. Tin Realm which is the follow-up and has you finding your way home through the wilderness after a dungeon delve is excellent as well. They are both standalone experiences in the same game world.
Me too - gonna get it played before too long (he says, unrealistically)! As you say, Rinaldo produces great stuff, so it'll definitely be worth checking out!
This is a great vid but I feel it’s missing an explanation as to what the cerebral element of each game is. Are they just roll on table, experience games or does each game present meaningful and difficult choices to the player that affect gameplay and the outcomes of a game? If, so it would help to describe what these are . Keep up the great work and thanks for uploading
Thanks for commenting and I'm glad you enjoyed the list! If I neglected to cover the degree to which the games present meaningful / difficult choices it was likely just due to not having enough time in this format. That said, most of these games provide what I would consider....minimal meaningful choice. Not nothing, but not a great deal. Usually the choices revolve around what items to buy / when to use them, whether to stay and fight or to retreat, that sort of thing. They are kind of like the adventure game equivalent of the card game Solitaire. You are playing a game, but don't expect to have too much influence over the eventual outcome!
@@lone_adventurer thank you for the detailed response. I really enjoyed the vid and hopefully my comment has been received in the constructive spirit it was intended. For what it’s worth , this vid (and your play through which I watched subsequently) has inspired me to purchase a physical copy of Grotten which looks great. Thanks again
Totally! Dismal Armory is post-apocalyptic, and I've got a pirate-themed one lined up, but I agree there could be more variety and I'd love to see some sci-fi ones!
Finally I can play Mork Borg without all the high contrast. Edit: Unfortunately, I am unable to find Dark Fort like what you have. I can't do the high contrast of Mork Borg, so the book it's in is useless to me.
Yeah, Mork Borg is more a piece of art than a practical, useable book at the best of times. Luckily, if you are after it for just the words, there is a plain-text, no art version you can get 'pay what you want' - jnohr.itch.io/mrk-borg-free Dark Fort, I'm afraid, is only available with a supplementary zine for Mork Borg called Cult Feretory. Probably not worth buying if all you want is Dark Fort! I'd recommend Corny Gron for a similar, more affordable experience!
@@lone_adventurer I emailed Freelegue about my disability, and need for a plain text version. Got an automated reply that they are back logged, so maybe they'll help. I did find the bare bone version of Mörk Borg. Nice someone did that. Wish Freelegue did it themselves. Not everyone can read those books.

Awesome - crazy (and intriguing) that your list has almost no cross-over! Will keep an eye out for it!
A wizard never stumbles on a TH-cam channel, he arrives precisely where he means too😊
Haha, I heard that about wizards! Now, don't go sending me on any dangerous adventures, and we'll get along fine :D
😂
Lovely.

Thanks for your kind words - glad you found the scene and my channel 🙂
This was great! highlighting some rad items here, Grotten was totally new to me, thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it, dude!
Thank you for this list. Always looking for solo games.
You're welcome - hope you found something new!
@@lone_adventurer I did 🙂
Fantastic video! Anytime you’re making a list, I’m in!
Cheers :D I've been building up to this one for a while!!
great list..thank you
Excellent vid! Grotten looks very interesting!
Super interesting, such an appealing little book!

@@lone_adventurerI still have to try it; I only played and gave some feedback for the two Dark Fort hacks he made (Lane and Land) 👻

Awesome! Bought the Reckless Plundering directly after I saw this video! But I couldn't get the Abyss and Knightsblood links to work sadly.
That's great - hope you enjoy Reckless Plundering!
I don't think it is a problem with the links - I think itch.io is down at the moment! Very weird - I haven't seen that happen before!
Interesting! Thanks for sharing! 👍😁
I have Dark Fort but never imagined there were so many games based on it. Gotta go look at some of these soon...
Yeah it seems a lot of people were inspired by that one! There's a lot of variety in the 'Dark Fort' genre 😁
Tin Helm is excellent. Tin Realm which is the follow-up and has you finding your way home through the wilderness after a dungeon delve is excellent as well. They are both standalone experiences in the same game world.
I'm a fan of both - I did a playthrough of Tin Realm for the channel a few weeks ago 👍
A few new games for me to check out great video
Ace, glad you enjoyed it dude!
There are a great many small components solos, if you have an active imagination.

So intrigued for Reckless Plundering!!! The author's a guarantee

I'm amazed so many are free!
Yup people are very generous with their games! Hope you found something you liked the look of!
Great video! I would like to know if you can review my solo pocket-sized rpg?
I don't really review games and have a huge back-log of games I want to play, but you are welcome to email me (email in the about channel section)!

Don't forget Darker Forts! But it seems not to be online anymore 🤔
I had not heard of that one! But indeed - seems like the designer has removed it, so it is no longer available :(
@@lone_adventurer Maybe somebody can chime in and knows more :/ Now I have to hold on to the pdf like an old book
I love the concept but I want options: sci fi. Post apocalyptic.

@@lone_adventurer Now to figure out how to print Dungeon Blitz. It's in a weird format.
"corny gron" means "black rocky river bank / black mountain" and it's "c" is pronouced more like first "c" in cycling
I need to quit my job to play more games... I also need the job to pay for the games I want to play...
Welcome to my world 🙂
